On the outset, we wish to register our profound gratitude to SOLAFRICA for stretching their support

towards our first solar training in the Scouting organisation of Zimbabwe. Also, the support realised

from the Scout Association of Zimbabwe who provided the host facilities for the training.

TRAINING WORKSHOP

The training took place from the 10th to the 12th of November at the Harare Scout Provincial Office and had 25 Participants and 10 service team members who also got an opportunity to attend some of the sessions. The

training realised an intergenerational and gender balanced participation and collectively all members where from the diverse parts of the country.

ACCOMODATION All participants stayed in canvas Tents pitched at the venue. The tents where also water proof for rainy weather

and we used the Head Quarters hall for activities.

MEALS We provided meals for everyone in camp starting from Friday Lunch to Sunday Lunch including Tea Breaks twice

or thrice a day.

EQUIPMENT Most of the equipment needed was available which made all the participants to have a real workshop experience.

Only the equipment for Solar Torch was not enough for all and foil paper for Copen Hagen cookers was so

expensive by the time of purchase due to the fluctuating economy so couldn’t afford enough for each participant.

With what we had secured, we did a several experiments as individuals and in pairs where resources could not

permit. We managed to make the following

Copenhagen Cookers LAMP SOLDERING

No big Parabolic Cooker to show the real efficiency and effectiveness of solar cooking We could not secure more funding for starter kits to give out to all our participants and would wish for

at least one set for each province so they can be able to use when doing demonstrations.

3 Days seemed to be little time to cover everything in detail.
