Yes! we are growing, growing, growing. Idon't mean theEchoes alone, but everything onMount Eccelsia. In the last month, we havegrown both up and down, for we are buildingthree cottages on the hill and digging a deepwell in the valley 200 feet below to irrigate avegetable garden we are starting there.

And we need lots of them, for we are anawful, yes, a terribly hungry crowd. This cool, bracing air filled with ozone from the Pacificmakes us all feel like working hard and there-fore we also eat heartily, and we drink thirstily, too. When school started, we had one cowasplendid cow, a cow of plenty, we thoughtbut after the students had been sniffing the airof Mount Ecclesia awhile, the cook had to puton steam to supply the demand for more whole

wheat bread and vegetables, but poor Josie (thecow) could not rise to the exigencies of the sit-uation, she gave no more milk, So oneSaturday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Heindelstarted for the country to find an assistant forher. Late in the evening they came homeweary, but victorious, after a long battle with abovine which was tied behind their rig; anunwilling victim of our lust for the lactealfluid. Of course there was great rejoicing when

the prize was safely corralled. We named herJosephine, after the great famous Milch Cowin the State Agricultural College of Missouri;hoping that she may prove worthy of thehonor. One of the members forthwith proceed-ed to milk her, and another ran for water towater next morning's milk (by giving it toJosephine) but, in his excitement he forgot to

close the gate to the corral and Josephine madea break for liberty. Down the grade she sprint-ed towards her childhood's home in San LuisRey with several of the boys in hot pursuit.

It has been proved that vegetarians are thesuperior of flesh-eaters in all athletic contests.Josephine is a vegetarian, and there is no doubt

but that she would have won the race if ourboys had been beef-eaters. It was an excitingrace which stirred the sporting blood in ourveins while we watched the heroic struggle ofour gallant boys to save the cream. Finally,Josephine was caught, conquered and broughtback in triumph. She is now an able assistant toJosie, and between them they manage to keepthe crowd from crying for the bottle.

That reminds me that during the Seattle

Exposition a real estate agent took a prospec-tive customer to look at a lot located on a highhill. Puget Sound lay bathed in sunlightbeneath, several beautiful lakes were aroundthem and the beautiful pines were everywherevisible along the sky line of the mountains. The customer, however, being compassionateof nature, saw only a poor starved-looking cowstaked on the bare lot and exclaimed: "Oh! thepoor thing, she has nothing to eat." "Yes, but

think or the glorious view she has," rejoinedthe agent, keeping to the main point of hisargument.

When we started School, a tent did duty asdining-room. This has now been replaced by asubstantial frame building, but we have takencare not to shut away the beautiful view. While, like the poor Seattle cow, we may be

unable to live on scenery alone, we are sure thefood digests better because of the lovelypanorama of valley and mountains.

Miss Elizabeth McDuffee, for many yearsteacher of Anatomy in Girard College,

Philadelphia, has relieved Mr. Heindel of thenecessity of instructing the class in the materi-al side of this science. She lays the foundationand Mr. Heindel later correlates the visibleeffect with invisible cause; thus, we have pro-gressed splendidly, for Miss McDuffee is aborn teacher, simple and lucid. By leaving outnon-essentials, the class is now so faradvanced in Anatomy and Astro-diagnosis thatMr. Heindel has started the class in Astro-ther-

apy, or the Science of healing according to thestars. We have had only one lesson, but it wasan eye-opener. Mr. Heindel used the pianotogether with the horoscope so that we couldboth see and hear how harmony and discordheal or hurt, like the astrological aspects. Ibelieve a new class for beginners will be start-ed in September.

The Oceanside Garage has made a speciallow rate of 50 for each person going to

Headquarters, and back to the depotwith a rea-sonable amount of baggage, provided two goat the same time. If only one goes back, 10additional is charged, making a total of 60 forthe round trip. The livery and expressmen askdouble that amount, or more, so it will be to theinterest of students to call Main 25 on thephone.

    Resum

Sunday Evening Lecturesby Alice Gurney of Sacramento

When Christ was on earth, He constantlyaccentuated one thing, and that was Life. Hesaid He was the way, the truth, and the life, andHe came that we might have it more abundant-ly. This was His mission, to bring more life tothe world. It is for us to get that realization of

life and its unity in order that we may find theChrist within ourselves. If we have not life, then it is our first duty to ourselves and our fel-low-beings to lose no time but at once toincrease that life within. When we have done

this we have developed healing power, and thatis the Christ; and without Him (life) we can donothing. In other words He has said "seek yefirst the kingdom of God [life] and its right-eousness [right-use-ness] and all these thingsshall be added unto you." With an open mindand a seeing eye, it must be patent to every onethat He meant the life. the one essence of theUniverse. In it we live and move and have ourbeing, go where we will, and how we will, we

cannot get away from life.Hence, the Christ, knowing that this con-

sciousness was the first thing to get, becausewith that we have the power to draw all thingsto us, told us that life was the way, and that italso is the truth, and He is all that.

Then if we would have more of the Christ letus develop more life, and manifest it in all ouracts and thoughts, let it be the shining light thatis seen and felt by all around us; let it preach

the sermon, rather than words spoken withoutthe life, for they are idle.

The world has need for live men and womentoday, and those who have attained even adegree of this consciousness of life, hence theChrist, are the leaven that shall leaven themass.

Christ is with us now, and we need not waitfor a future time for the revelation of thatdivine spirit. Did He not enter our planet at the

time of the crucifixion? And is He not theindwelling Spirit of the Earth? And does notthis earth's products virtually mean the bodyand blood of Christ? Is not the atmosphere theaura of the earth and do we not breathe it con-stantly from the cradle to the grave? Ponderwell on these thoughts, and much will come asa result.

drink from the fount of the vast ocean ofInfinite Wisdom.

It is easy to be kind and loving when ourenvironments are harmonious but we shouldcultivate equipoise even though an outburst of

ingratitude and severe criticism should meet usfrom those from whom we have shown greatforbearance.

The speaker claimed that it was not so muchthe quantity of love that we express as thequality, and to what degree we will cheerfullysuffer in order that others may suffer less.

Every bird in the tree branches sings withlove; the soft fleecy clouds seem to float inloving appreciation of its power to move. The

flowers turn their opening petals upward as insilent thanksgiving for the gentle dewdrop andthe warm rays from the Giver of all Light. While in the quiet solitude the spirit finds restand the heart is filled with love which recog-nizes neither sex nor personality, but only thatwhich seeketh to know Wisdom, through thelaw of Divine love.

It is only the finite mind that suffers, theInfinite rests in calm repose; that Universal

Love knows no, sorrowing for the woes of yes-terday, neither does it anticipate sorrows fortomorrow. We all should live in the fullstrength of this knowledge, filling each daywith kind thoughts and helpful deeds to all weknow and all we meet. The opportunity of thepresent hour will never come to us again.

On the 6th of August, we started a nucleus ofour Sanatarium, Mr. Heindel on that occasionsaid in part:

It seems so difficult to get away from theideas of imposing buildings fitted with everymodern convenience when we speak of aSanitarium, such I have dreamed of, and some-time the dream will become a reality; but in themeanwhile, mankind is suffering and we aredoing nothing physically to take care of thesick. This never dawned upon my mind until

the Elder Brother suggested that we erect somecottages and begin active work on a smallscale; that we follow the same method in thisbranch of our work in the world which hasproved so successful in building up the

Rosicrucian Fellowshipnamely, using whatwe have instead of waiting for what we thinkwe need, or ought to have. And this is reallythe better way, for if we had an imposing look-ing building here today, with trained healthadjusters, nurses and all the paraphernalia, they would have nothing to do but keep thebuilding clear of the cobwebs and dust whichwould accumulate by disuse. In this way weshall start with a few patients; when we have

helped them they will go on their way rejoic-ing telling the news to other sufferers who willcome and give us the privilege of helping themfor Christ's sake.

That last remark is not a vague expressioneither, it is a true, good and valid reason whenwe say that we want to help others for Christssake. He is now immured in the earth, groan-ing, travailing and waiting for liberation. Painand sickness are caused by transgression of the

law of life, therefore they crystallize the densebody, give it a firmer grip on the vital body, and retard the day of our liberation, as well asHis. By helping the sick to attain health and byteaching them to live in harmony with the lawof life so that they may maintain health, we arehastening the day of His Coming. May Godbless our efforts and strengthen our hands inthe Good Work.

As it is contrary to Rosicrucian principles to

charge for services, patients will only berequired to pay for room and board, at the rateof $1.00 per day or $29.00 per month. Onaccount of the limited room, it will be neces-sary to apply for admission in advance.
