Often, we hear the workplace terms “hard skills” and “soft skills.” Employees who work in frontline or operational roles are considered to have “hard skills” like technical knowledge or working with tools. Those in the workplace who have jobs that may focus more on communication or relationship management skills are generally considered as having soft skills.
Where or when does model get turned on its head? …If you are in a leadership role! For leaders, communication is a core competency. If you are a leader, communication is a hard skill… period. Without communication skills -you can’t lead, and certainly not effectively. If you can't communicate; you're not in charge. Leaders must be able to responsibly manage, persuade, and/or direct their team. Let's talk about why your temperament, role, and actions are critical.
Leadership Is a HARD Skill

Leadership Thought: “Lead Right! Sleep @ Night!”
In a world of constant change where economies can shift almost overnight, the ability to
change fast and fluidly can mean the difference between an organization thriving or dying.
When change arises, getting it right the first time is imperative. However, even the most
successful businesses don't like change. It's hard. It's scary. To keep pace, organizations
must raise the bar and leaders must be willing to boldly go where others won’t.
In this program, you’ll:
• Learn the brain science of change resistance including how and why we resist change.
• Discover the SPEAR principles that will allow you to shorten the time for integrating
change and shrinking the emotional impact change has on your team.
• Pick-up the Four-Sights that will keep you from being blindsided by customer
complaints, inefficiencies, repeat problems and competitors that pass you by like you
are standing still.
• Receive actionable tools you’ll begin using during the session to help you take
ownership for leading for the future of change in your organization.
After six years in the U.S. Air Force, developing NCOs to take on the challenges of leading
high performing teams responsible for safeguarding the nations nuclear arsenal, Daniel left
to join Toyota. For the next fifteen years he helped develop comprehensive training
programs to support all levels of the Toyota organization from new hire orientation to
executive level trainings. Since, he’s consulted for 100s of organizations form
manufacturing to higher education. His in-depth knowledge of TWI, Problem Solving and
Leadership earned him clients such as Daimler Trucks, University of Tennessee, Delta
Faucet, and Smith & Nephew to name a few. Daniel is the author of “The A3 Workbook:
Unlock Your Problem-Solving Mind.” His newest book, “The Language of Leadership:
Nicer Bark No Bite” will be available in June 2020.
He is also an adventurer. He'll try almost anything once – from triathlons to riding bulls to
jumping out of airplanes to being electrocuted during Tough Mudders and lots more in
between. It’s not the adrenaline that drives him, it’s not the bruises, and it’s definitely not
the mud in his shorts – It’s finishing and learning from the experience that drives him.
Description:
The audience will walk away with at least one or two actionable concepts that will enable them to lead their organizations to profitable growth. They will travel with the speaker through his journey to triple the profits of a $380 MM business in 24 months. Everyone will learn from the speaker’s failures and successes in leveraging operational excellence (including lean concepts and methodologies) to fuel profitable growth while dramatically improving QCDSM results. A set of ideas will be established early and fleshed out throughout the speech with facts, personal stories, and/or observations to enable pragmatic execution.
Challenges Addressed:
A number of suppliers are struggling to meet increasing customer requirements (innovation and QCD improvements) and grow profitably.
Key Question Addressed:
How can I successfully lead change? How can I grow profitably while increasing innovation and improving key performance indicators?

Technology, social and political dynamics, and disruptive business models are
fundamentally changing the nature of work and the relationships between people and the
work we perform.
As leaders, we are tasked with the combined goals of remaining relevant and competitive
all while navigating the human elements of automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and the
Internet of Things (IoT).
These technologies will fundamentally change how we work. While nobody really knows
what work will look like in twenty years, we do know that leadership needs to change as we
understand and connect the roles and relationships of people to these new technologies.
This introduces the idea of a “Human CEO” -- a leader who is focused on people and our
relationship with technology and our work.
Join Robert Martichenko as he discusses the essence of being a Human CEO. Robert will
outline:
• What it means to think and act like a Human CEO
• How the nature of work and working environments are changing now and into the future.
• The importance of making work meaningful and what it means to create meaningful work
• A powerful framework that can help eradicate cultures of fear and drive people to
experience true meaning in their work; Respect, Knowledge and Courage
• Why this is important to leaders building cultures of continuous improvement
• How to bridge conceptual insights to tangible action items in order to determine, “what
will we do with this on Monday morning?”
THE FUTURE OF LEADERSHIP ROBERT MARTICHENKO
Robert is the Founder and CEO of
LeanCor Supply Chain Group, and
Chairman of Karmack Publications.
He is also an entrepreneur, thought

restore soul and meaning back to
the workplace.

CONTENT: Competitiveness of any business depends on convincing customers of the superior value of its products and services, backed up by its ability to deliver on that promise. This workshop will help participants maximize the value-adding aspects of operational and support work while minimizing known types of waste. Beyond defects, overproduction, waiting, non-utilized resources or talent, transportation, inventory, motion and excessive processing we will also consider some forms of transactional waste, mostly dealing with information and decision making. Examples will come from manufacturing, the supply and distribution chain, and the transactional support structure.
BIO: Joachim Knuf was one of the original architects of the original lean systems program created at the University of Kentucky Center for Manufacturing in collaboration with Toyota in 1994. TITLE: Cyber Aware is Cyber PreparedDescription:Secure Cyber Defense has worked with a number of manufacturing and supplier companies to address their cybersecurity needs. The core concern is that companies often lack a consistent cybersecurity approach that is followed and part of the company’s overall strategic plan. Shawn Waldman lays out the core steps and approaches every company should take when developing their cybersecurity approach. While cybersecurity has been focused on the IT department, Shawn Waldman advocates for broader knowledge of cybersecurity issues for company executives and board members. Topics to be covered include cybersecurity insurance, Incident Response Planning, cloud computing awareness, common cyberthreats, appropriate site restrictions for employees, and key allies to contact and relationships to have in place should a breach occur.
Why this topic is important:In 2019, cybersecurity breaches and incidents cost manufacturers $1 million and $10 million to address each breach.Manufacturing has become a target of cybercriminals seeking to gather Intellectual Property, access to other company’s databases, or to target banking and financial information.
