February or Februum in Latin means purification. This is the month dedicated to love and ro-mance between lovers. Even though we always tell our spouse, our fami-ly or our partner that we love them every day, this is the month which it seems to mean the most. We, as Free and Accepted Masons, know how much we value that friendship, that brotherly love and that excep-tional and significant lifelong frater-nal bond. It is a time that we need to show our true essence as Masons as we take pride in “Making good men better”. This is a time when we par-don those who doubt and those who don’t follow the cardinal vir-tues and in showing their true intent in joining Freemasonry. This is the time of the year when the New Year, 2016, has brought some good news, increased attendance and participation in ac-tivities, which has led to increasing signs of harmony slowly taking shape. As the Master of Crocker Lodge, my philosophy of Bridging the Gap can only be achieved collec-tively. We must show our love and

commitment to our Lodge. We have the responsibility to make sure that we are a healthy and harmonious Lodge. We hope that we can contin-ue our Masonic goal of making good men better by opening our doors to prospective candidates into this brotherhood and teaching them the masonic values as they begin their journey. Dear Brothers, my family and the Crocker Lodge family, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported us. Please continue to do so as we journey together in our quest for Masonic enlightenment. An Invitation for everybody about our Valentines Party/Widows Night on February 6 (Saturday) at 6:00 PM. Also, the Masonic Education on Feb. 18, 2016 at 7:00 PM and reminder of our CPR/AED/First Aid Training on Feb. 20 at 10:00 AM. I would like to thank WB Hercules Valdez for his presentation about Freemasonry and Wor Claude “Jack” Palmer in giving the Introduction and sharing his masonic journey in our well attended Layman’s Night, as well as Bro. Norbert Baraoidan for letting us borrow his projector and screen. Thanks you to all the brethren and guests who attended Let us show support and love by participating in our Lodge activities. May the Supreme Archi-tect bless us all and Happy Valen-tines to everybody. Respectfully & With all the love, Bro. Carlo S. “An Excerpt Article from the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania Temple in Phila-delphia”

As freemasons, we swore in front of the Holy Bible to become better men by following the tenets of our institution which has been handed down to us from time imme-morial. Let me remind all of you re-garding our duties and obligations. I have read an article which simply explains the virtues of one of the tenets of our institution. Let me share this with you; "Statues of "Faith, Hope & Charity" Faith - In the theological ladder, the explanation of which forms a part of the instruction of the First Degree of Masonry, faith is said to typify the lowest round. Faith, here, is synony-mous with confidence or trust, and hence we find merely a repetition of the lesson which had been previous-

ly taught that the first, the essential qualification of a candidate for initia-tion, is that he should trust the Great Architect of the Universe. In the lec-ture of the same Degree, it is said that "Faith may be lost in sight; Hope ends the boundless realms of eterni-ty." And this is said, because as faith is "the evidence of things not seen," when we see we no longer believe by faith but through demonstration; and as hope lives only in the expec-tation of possession, it ceases to ex-ist when the object once hoped for is at length enjoyed, but charity, exer-cised on earth in acts of mutual kind-ness and forbearance, is still found in the world to come, in the sublimer form of mercy from God to his erring creatures. Hope - The second round in the the-ological and Masonic ladder, and symbolic of a hope in immortality. It is appropriately placed there, for, having attained the first, or faith to the Great Architect of the Universe, we are led by a belief in His wisdom and goodness to the hope of immor-tality. This is but a reasonable ex-pectation; without it, virtue would lose its necessary stimulus and vice its salutary fear; life would be devoid of joy, and the grave but a scene of desolation. The ancients represent-ed Hope by a Nymph or maiden holding in her hand a bouquet of

Life After Service in the East by Albert Balayan, PM

Anyone who has served in the East, of any Masonic body, has a special feeling of satisfaction and pride in his accomplishments in that office. That being said, it is only natural that he will also have a feeling of regret should he be unable to accomplish everything he envisioned during his term. He may also have second thoughts on how he handled some situations, considering the deep and abiding concern he has for his Lodge. What about "life after service in the East?" What happens then? The answer will de-

pend a great deal upon the Mason and his attitude. There are some who re-linquish the gavel with great reluctance, and there are some who never seem to give it up. And there are few who walk away from the role, never appear to look back, and seldom comeback. Fortunately, the vast majority of Past Masters take on a status of "Senior Advisors" who greatly assist their successors in the government of the Craft. Lodges that grow and succeed take full advantage the talents of these experienced leaders. The special kinship which Past Masters have with one another is evident in many ways. It is customary for the Past Masters to sit together (where, in jest, they have been likened to buzzards sitting on a fence). If you were to eavesdrop on them, you would hear frequent com-ments such as "during my year, we did such and so" as they relive past glo-ries of their term, and discuss upcoming Lodge events. Past Masters are regarded as the backbone of the Lodge. It is their knowledge, experience, enthusiasm and interest which makes any lodge tick. They are men of vision who are continuously working for the good of the Craft, steering the course of its future. A wise Master who recognizes the tal-ents of the Past Master uses them to his advantage. They can serve as a "sounding board" for the programs and activities a Master is considering. He can pick their brains for ideas, and he can count on them to give him the wis-dom of their experience. The Master serves as the rudder, steering the course of the Lodge, but the Past Master are the ones who assist him to keep it on the level. The title of Past Master is accorded the accolade of "Worshipful" indicating that he is an honored and respected brother. It is a reputation which he must continually strive to uphold.

On the Level Continued from page 6 …….

opening flowers, indicative of the coming fruit; but in modern and Masonic iconology, the science of Craft illustrations and likenesses, it is represented by a virgin leaning on an anchor, the anchor itself being a symbol of hope. Charity - " In Freemasonry it is made the topmost round of its mystic lad-der. We must not fall into the too common error that charity is only that sen-timent of commiseration which leads us to assist the poor with pecuniary do-nations. The true Freemason will "suffer long and be kind." He will be slow to anger and easy to forgive. He will stay his falling Brother by gentle admoni-tion, and warn him with kindness of approaching danger. He will not open his ear to the slanderers, and will close his lips against all reproach. His faults and his follies will be locked in his breast, and the prayer for mercy will ascend to the Great Architect of the Universe for his Brother's sins. Nor will these senti-ments of benevolence be confined to those who are bound to him by ties of kindred or worldly friendship alone; but, extending them throughout the globe, he will love and cherish all who sit beneath the broad canopy of our universal Lodge. For it is the boast of our Institution, that a Freemason, desti-tute and worthy, may find in every clime a Brother, and in every land a home." Brethren as Freemason, let us be an example for the world to see how we Meet, Act and Part as honorable men.

Brethren, I am happy to report to you that we started the year 2016 with our first stated meeting with a lot of brothers in attendance. Dinner tables were arranged, the dinner wares, table cloth, plates, etc. were set up the night before with the help of Worshipful Carlo Chavez and Worshipful Mario Dayrit. A sumptuous dinner was served with the help of our hard working stew-ards, Brothers Jun Guevarra and Ramil Garcia, along with Brother Rudy Labit. Reminder again that our pre Valentines Affair is on February 6, 2016 at Embassy Suite, (plenty of parking). Cost of the ticket is $60.00 per person, but we have to pay Em-bassy Suite $67.00 per person, a sav-ings of $7.00 for the members, right of the bat. Let us work together to pro-mote the sale of tickets to make this a successful affair. If we can only buy two tickets and sell the other two (a total of four) to relatives, friends and acquaintances, with 50 members, this will be a total of 200 tickets. Brethren, this is not too am-

bitious of a proposal. This can be achieved if only we work together as a team. Remember! The more tick-ets/attendance we have, the lesser will be the cost and the savings will be passed unto us. This is the first time in a long time that a function such as this is to be held outside of the Lodge. Let us support our Worshipful Master on this occasion. Please call the following for more reservations:

WM Carlo Chaves – (510) 499-7364 Bro. Ray Santos (650) 271-3377 Bro. Egay Elazigue (650) 270-7745 Bro.Jun Guevarra (650) 580-4166 Bro. Ramil Garcia (650) 218-9265

Dates to remember: February 20, 2016- CPR/BLS/AED TRAINING May 14, 2016 - BLOOD DRIVE July 16, 2016 - DISTRICT 325 JOINT PICNIC at WESTBOROUGH PARK, SSF Additionally, we now have a ping pong table courtesy of W Dayrit, at the recreation room for the Breth-ren to enjoy for our physical exercise to prolong our lives and enjoy a long-er Masonic Journey. We have also added round dinner tables for our future functions with the help of W Chaves, W Dayrit and Bro. Jun Guevarra. TOGETHER BRETHREN! Sincerely and Fraternally, Renato N. Past Masters Corner

I have been asked nu-merous times: “What is a Past Master and what does he do?” The title of Past Mas-ter applies to one who has been regularly elected, or named in a charter, has been installed and has served a term as Master of a Chartered lodge within the jurisdiction of this Grand Lodge of California as well as a member in good standing. Masonry is very tradi-tional fraternal organization, as a Past Master, he is an in-valuable asset to his Lodge in many ways. He is not giv-

en any specific duties to per-form, other than to fulfill his obligations to his lodge ac-cording to his conscience, but to serve as a role model for others. His regular attendance and support of the lodge ac-tivities are essential that he may mentor and offer wise counsel and encouragement to the Officers and members of his lodge. He should also main-tain his proficiency of our Masonic ritualistic ceremo-nies and be prepared to serve as necessary at the discretion of the Master. As a Past Master of our Lodge, it is my pleasure to be of assistance to our brethren, any time. Claude “Jack” Palmer Past Master

It is a reputation which he must continually strive to uphold.

opening flowers, indicative of the coming fruit; but in modern and Masonic iconology, the science of Craft illustrations and likenesses, it is represented by a virgin leaning on an anchor, the anchor itself being a symbol of hope.
