Principal’s Pen Principal’s Pen Canungra Show The Canungra Show is coming up and it is a great opportunity for students to showcase their talents to the wider community. The senior band and the choir will be performing to share their talents. Classes have been working on art pieces to display in the pavilion. Over that last few weeks some lovely volunteers have been working with grade 5 and 6 classes on cake decorating and card making to encourage students to enter as individuals. On parade I encouraged students to enter individually. You can collect a Show Schedule from local businesses. I have organised for students to be able to submit entries either in the pavilion- Juvenile Section or the Juvenile Fine Arts Section at school on Friday 24 th August, before school at the office. Students will simply need to bring in their entry forms, entry fees and entries. I have included in the electronic copy of today’s newsletter these sections of the show schedule. I hope this increases entries from our students so that the community can see the talented students we have. Smart School Subsidy I am thrilled to announce that we have been successful in an application for a grant from the Smart School Subsidy Scheme to replace the early year’s playground at the front of the school. The scheme will contribute over $50 000 to the project, the school and P&C will contribute up to $30 000 and donations in kind from the Green Team and local businesses will contribute to landscaping. This will all be completed this financial year and our school will look wonderful and the children will have a great new playground to play and grow their muscles, coordination and imagination. The playground will be colour schemed to match the natural environment and the ethos of our school. The P&C are working hard on planning the Canungra Country Fair that will raise the funds to contribute towards this and your support of them will be realised in a playground for the children. LOTE Speaking Competition On Sunday 6 students represented Canungra State School at the LOTE speaking competition at Griffith University. Thank you Ruby, Amity, Max, Jessica, Mia and Sarah for proudly representing our school to such a high standard. A special congratulations to Jessica 3 rd (6M), Max (6M) Highly Commended, Ruby (5O) Highly Commended and Sarah (4F) Highly Commended. We are very proud of their efforts. DEPUTY’S DEN School Photos Our school photos this year will be taking place next Thursday 24th August. Envelopes and specific details have gone home today. We will be using the same company as last year – Queensland School Photography. Please read the information on the note carefully as it is important that you follow the

processes. A few points to make note of –

All envelopes will be handed directly to the photographers on the day – your child will bring their envelope to the hall as soon as they arrive to school. They will then place it in their class’s box that will be provided.

Family photos (Canungra students only) will be taken in the hall between 8.00 and 8.30. If you wish to order a family photo these may be picked up from the office. Please bring the envelope with your children on the morning.

Special Group envelopes may be picked up from the Office next week

You may pay by cash ( correct amount only), cheque, credit card or online

Please ensure your child/children is wearing correct school uniform on the day

Yr 6 students will require their regular school shirt and their Senior shirt Cindi Dare Deputy Principal

Sport Report Interschool Sport - Junior Touch Football The Junior Touch Football team is now FULL. An overwhelming number of junior students nominated for Touch Football (60 students) so we took the first 36 students who bought back their note and money. Students were informed when they got their note that this was the fairest way we could do it. Their classroom teachers also reminded them until the team was full. All of the students that have missed out are already on a list for term 1 next year to receive their 1st preference. Usually I can give students who miss out on their 1st preference the option to select the other sport on offer but this term all sports being played were at maximum nomination numbers. Junior T Ball and Senior Softball, Touch Football and Rugby League (tackle) All of the students who nominated these sports have up until the 22nd August to get back their note and money. Yours in Sport Leandra Thomson
