Important* YES Program

*Everglades Adventure

The Everglades National Park is a wonderful wilderness to camp, paddle and fish. But for the best experience it is important that we are all properly prepared. Please understand that we are canoeing and camping in a wild environment regardless of current weather conditions, always putting safety first.

We will be out of the range of most cell phones and stores. However, the guides do carry VHF radios, satellite phones and satellite tracking devices in case of emergencies. Most all our provisions, supplies and water must be carried with us on the canoes or kayaks and all trash must be carried out. There are no freshwater showers and no running water so we will be dry camping. These are “Leave No Trace” courses.

Everglades Area Tours will be providing all canoes, safety equipment, guides, tents, sleeping gear, food provisions and cooking gear. You will only need to bring your personal gear as outlined below. It is suggested that you pack your gear in small, waterproof “dry” bags. On the canoes, several small bags pack better than one large bag.

You need to be comfortable with these physical requirements. You will be on a multi-day canoeing/camping trip in Everglades National Park. We will be base camping on a remote island location for two days.

You must be able to swim and to paddle a canoe at least 8 miles per day and at times against winds and tides. As well, you must be able to sit in a kayak/canoe for extended periods with exposure to the sun. A Personal Flotation Device (PFD) must be worn while in the canoes.

You will be sharing a tent with another student.

We have release forms that will need to be completed prior to beginning the course.

The course is completely outfitted and provisioned except for your personal gear. However, many guests prefer to bring their own sleeping bags. Please let us know, in advance, if you wish to bring your own.

Also, please retain and use the following check list for your personal items.

The meal plan will be finalized closer to the trip based on the dietary and medical information received from each student.
