This book is designed as a guide to enable you to start work quickly and safely. It is not intendedto replace the full manufacturer’s operating instructions (a copy of which should be with yourmachine) which should be read and understood by anyone operating the machine.

SAFETY TIPS

In the unlikely event that your machine develops a faultplease contact the Facelift Tech Team on 01444 881100

ALWAYS

• Inspect your machine before use.

• Check all operations including ground controls.

• Check ground conditions.

• Check clearance from overhead obstructions (powercables, building projections etc).

• Plan your task/job.

• Use sole boards under your outriggers at all timesregardless of ground conditions.

• Stabilise and level machine before use.

• Wear a safety harness connected to a suitableanchorage point inside the platform.

• Operate all controls smoothly.

• Warn other people that you are there by means offlashing lights, sign and cones.

• MAKE SAFETY YOUR No.1 PRIORITY.

NEVER

• Use an unsafe machine.

• Use an access platform to hoist loads like a crane.

• Overload cage/platform.

• Operate in strong winds (Check manufacturer’srecommendation).

• Rest the cage on a structure or object to gainextra support.

• Attach your safety harness to a structure outside ofthe platform.

• Throw or drop anything from the platform.

• Use boxes, ladders or stand on handrails to gain additionalheight, if you can’t reach, you need a bigger machine.

• Let an untrained person operate the access platform.

• Take unnecessary risks (hospitals and graveyards arefull of dead heroes!)

GENERAL FUNCTIONINGThe AC or DC electric motor directly drives a hydraulic pumpand is energised only when all four outriggers are set, closing theoutrigger limit switches and powering the outrigger relays.

The oil flow is normally allowed to return to the reservoir throughthe lift valve until it is energised by depressing the lift button andthe power button simultaneously with the keyswitch on and bothemergency stop buttons pulled out. Oil is then diverted to the liftcylinder until the lift function is stopped by the operator or untilpressure in the system reaches the relief setting and is bypassedto the reservoir through the relief valve.

When lowering, oil is allowed to flow out of the lift cylinder throughan orifice in the base (limiting the descent speed) and through thedown valve when it is energised by depressing the down button andthe power button simultaneously with the keyswitch on and bothemergency stop switches pulled out. In case of powered functionfailure, the unit may be lowered by turning the manual release on thedown valve or by the platform Emergency Down (optional).

DESIGN FEATURESThe UL – Series Lifts have the following features to ensuresafe operation:

– Interlocks are provided on each outrigger socket that preventPlatform elevation if the Outriggers are improperly installed.

– The Power and UP or DOWN buttons must be depressedfor the controls to operate, preventing inadvertent actuationof the controls.

– The Chassis and Platform Controls are equipped with anEmergency Stop Button for stopping all powered functions.

– An emergency Lowering Valve is provided to lower thePlatform in the event electrical power is lost.

– Dual chain lift system for added safety.

– An Orbit Level is provided on the Chassis Base so themachine can be properly levelled.

– Optional Emergency Down from the platform is available inthe event electrical power is lost.

SAFETY RULES AND PRECAUTIONS

ALL PERSONNEL SHALL CAREFULLY READ, UNDERSTANDAND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY RULES, OPERATINGINSTRUCTIONS AND THE SCAFFOLD INDUSTRY

ASSOCIATION’S MANUAL OF RESPONSIBILITIES BEFOREOPERATING THE UPRIGHT AERIAL WORK PLATFORM.

BEFORE USING THE UL-SERIES LIFT:

NEVER elevate Platform unless all four (4) Outriggers have beenproperly installed. All outrigger screwjack pads must be in solidcontact with a firm surface before the Platform is elevated.

NEVER attempt to move the UpRight Lift with people ormaterials on the Platform or with the Platform elevated.

NEVER operate the machine within ten feet of power lines. THISMACHINE IS NOT INSULATED.

NEVER sit, climb or stand on the Platform guardrails or midrail.

NEVER elevate Platform without first levelling the base.

NEVER use ladders, planks or other devices to increase theheight of the platform.

NEVER attach overhanging loads to the Platform or increase thePlatform size.

NEVER elevate the Platform if it contains more than one personor more than the rated load.

LOOK up, down and around for overhead obstructions andelectrical conductors.

NEVER change operating or safety systems.

NEVER use Outriggers from one model on another model.

CLOSE and secure the gate after entering Platform. Verify thatthe locking pin is fully engaged.

INSPECT the machine thoroughly for cracked welds, loose ormissing hardware, hydraulic leaks, damaged control or powercables and loose wire connections.

NEVER use the UpRight Lift as a freight or personnel elevator.

NEVER recharge batteries near sparks or open flame; batteriesthat are being charged emit highly explosive hydrogen gas.

AFTER USE secure the work Platform against unauthorised useby turning key switch off and removing key.

NEVER replace any component or part with anything otherthan original UpRight replacement parts without themanufacturer’s consent.

CONTROLS AND INDICATORSThe controls and indicators for operation of the UL series Liftsare shown in below. The names and functions of the controls arelisted in the table. The index numbers in the illustrationscorrespond to the index numbers in the table. The operatorshall know the location of each control and indicator andhave a thorough knowledge of the function and theoperation of each before attempting to operate the unit.

Index Name FunctionNo.

1 Key Switch Turn the switch to ON to providepower to the controls and OFF to cut power to the controls.

2 Emergency Stop Push red button to cut off power Switch to all functions (OFF). Pull red

button up to provide power (ON).

3 Power On Push this button along with either Button the UP or Down button to lift or
