    1. PROJECT INTRODUCTION

    Project Overview 1.1

    Kuwait Oil Company (K.S.C), hereafter called COMPANY, have awarded the consortium

    of Petrofac International Ltd. (Petrofac) and Consolidated Contractors Group

    S.A.L(Offshore),thereafter called CONTRACTOR, the Works comprising all things to be

    done and services to be provided by CONTRACTOR including but not limited to the

    engineering design, procurement of Material, expediting, shipping, placement of

    Subcontracts, project management, construction, inspection, testing, pre-

    commissioning, training of COMPANY personnel, commissioning, operation and

    maintenance during the ramping up of production to 60 MBOPD until

    turnover, performance testing and all other works to complete the Lower Fars Heavy

    Oil Development Program Phase-1 (60 MBOPD) on a Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) basis, to

    provide COMPANY with complete, proven and operable facilities.

    Phase-1 facilities comprises of two well blocks which shall be designed to process a

    nominal 60,000 BOPD of heavy oil. The field shall be developed using thermal recovery

    process which shall employ Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) followed by Steam Flood

    (SF).

    The broad scope involves development of Production Support Complex (PSC), Central

    Processing Facility (CPF), Well Blocks 02 and 03, Infield Satellite Station (ISS), Trunk And

    Steam Lines, Pipelines For Export Oil, Fuel Gas, Make Up And Disposal Water, Sub

    Stations, New Storage Tanks along with Loading And Filling Manifolds and New Crude Oil

    Control Centre (COCC) And Pumps In South Tank Farm (STF).

    2. INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE

    Introduction 2.1

    This specification defines the general design, construction criteria and the technical

    requirements for above ground Pipe Supports.

    Scope 2.2

    This document covers the details of Engineering, Design, QA and QC of support

    fabrication, general requirements and accommodation for the selection and use of pipe

    supports for piping systems for the project.

    This specification may not be extended to the piping systems furnished within a

    manufacturers package assembly / skids.

    3. DEFINITIONS

    For the purpose of this document the following definitions shall apply:

    COMPANY means Kuwait Oil Company (K.S.C).

    CONTRACTOR / PURCHASER mean the person, firm or company identified as such in the

    Contract Agreement and includes its successors and permitted assignees.

    VENDOR means the party that manufactures and / or supplies equipment.

    SUB-VENDOR means the party supplying goods, equipment or material specified by the

    VENDOR.

    4. REFERENCES

    The engineering of the project shall be carried out on the basis of certain specifications

    and standards listed below.

    Industry codes and standards 4.1

    International standards shall be used as referenced in the project specifications and

    KOC standards. Common international standards applicable to piping are listed below.

    The latest revisions of codes and standards prevailing on the effective date of bid

    submission, July 2014 shall be followed. The use of later revisions shall be agreed with

    Company.

    Local Standards & Statutory Regulations 4.3

    Local Standards, government regulations and laws, as applicable to the location of the

    project and as stipulated in the contract, shall be followed.

    Order of Precedence 4.4

    The supply of Equipment, materials, services, and documentation shall be in accordance

    with the State of Kuwait and local rules and regulations and specific project

    requirements. In case of conflict on technical requirements, the following order of

    precedence shall apply:

    5. DESCRIPTION

    General notes for pipe supports 5.1

    1) All dimensions shown in this specification are in mm, except for pipe & bolt

    size, unless otherwise noted.

    2) Supports directly attached to parent pipe or arrangement close for guiding or

    restraining pipe in any direction are designated as primary supports. On the

    isometric drawing, primary support types shall be indicated with Support

    illustration support codes / tags.

    3) Primary Pipe Supports shall be indicated on the piping isometric drawings

    through Support illustration Code as per actual support detail. It should be

    part of Pipe Support Group of Bill of Material in the isometric drawing. On the

    Issued for Construction isometric drawing, the primary pipe support should be

    part of Pipe Support Group Bill of Material. Primary supports that are attached

    to piping element (i.e. wear pad & encirclement pad) shall be welded at shop

    & Trunnion shall be welded at field prior to hydro testing. Field or Shop

    welding as per project requirement as indicated in pipe support sketch.

    4) Secondary Pipe Supports shall be indicated on the piping isometric drawings

    through Support illustration Code as per actual support detail. It should be

    part of Pipe Support Group of Bill of Material in the isometric drawing.

    Additionally all standard secondary pipe supports shall be uniquely numbered

    as per Pipe Support Numbering Philosophy of the project. (Refer Doc. No. : 3D

    Modelling Cad Procedure : 15050901-000-00-PI-PRO-0001)

    5) All steel sections and plates necessary for the fabrication of the pipe supports

    shall be in accordance with BS sections or equivalent. The material for all

    sections shall be as indicated in pipe support drawings.

    6) Pipes 1-1/2 and smaller are field supported. Supports indicated in the 3D

    model (Three dimensional) /2D (Two dimensional) drawings are for guidance

    only.

    7) Pick up support types (PUVU1, PUVU2, PUHU3 and PUVU4) shall be limited to

    isolated cases only, where other options are ruled out. However for thin pipe

    header (i.e. 10S) this option shall be avoided. These supports shall be used

    rarely and only after consultation with Stress Engineer.

    8) Fasteners, Nuts & Washers required for Primary support shall be as per Primary

    Support Material Selection Chart (Attachment-1). All carbon steel and alloy

    steel bolting including washers and U-bolts used for supports shall be supplied

    in hot dip galvanized condition in accordance with BS EN ISO 1461.

    9) Unless otherwise specified all bolting for secondary pipe supports shall be in

    accordance with Project Civil/Structural requirements. (Refer Doc. No. :

    Specification for structural steel fabrication and erection works:

    15050901-000-00-ST-0001)

    10) SS/Teflon pad shall be introduced, if required, to minimize contact friction

    between pipes and supporting structure as per piping stress analysis

    requirements. However, such supports shall be minimized.

    11) Surface preparation and painting requirements shall be as per project painting

    specification KOC-P-001- KOC Standard for Painting & Coating of External

    Metal Surfaces.

    12) Pipe and supports shall not rest directly on concrete. Metal surface / metal

    base plate shall be provided on top of concrete.

    For avoiding galvanic corrosion, Stainless steel bearing plates (SS 316/316L,

    Support illustration code BP) shall be provided on the supporting steel

    wherever SS/DSS/SDSS piping rests directly on the steel.

    For AS/Cu-Ni pipes bearing plates of equivalent parent pipe plate material shall

    be used. Bearing plates are not required when pipes are provided with wear

    pad.

    For clamped shoe supports using LTCS clamps on SS/DSS/SDSS/AS pipes, SS

    316/316L foils to be used between pipes & clamps.

    13) If PWHT requirements, if any for piping supports, shall be as per ASME B31.3

    (based on pipe wall thickness). Please refer note 12 of Attachment 2 for

    detail. However, for pipes requiring all welds to be post weld heat treated (As

    per process requirement); supports shall be of clamp type except at locations

    of line stops. At such welded support locations, PWHT shall be carried out.

    14) Loads indicated in this standard are the maximum allowable service loads. For

    structural steel supports, the horizontal load capacity shall be considered to be

    0.3 times and 0.15 times of vertical load capacity in the longitudinal and

    lateral pipe direction respectively.

    15) For structural supports, the maximum loads given are valid for particular

    dimensions (e.g. L, H) and shall be used as a guideline for selecting the

    supports. Dimensions and loads other than those mentioned may be used after

    verifying the same for structural integrity.

    16) Temporary supports required for hydro testing, maintenance will be identified

    and marked on isometric with suitable note (Temporary Support). This support

    must be taken out physically during operating condition of pipe line to that; it

    will be not arrest piping displacement.

    This identification of temporary supports will be limited to supports near spring

    supports and at removable spools only, if any.

    17) Structural sections indicated in the standard support details may be replaced

    by equivalent approved sections of comparable dimensions and strength.

    18) Structural sections indicated in the standard may be fabricated from plate in

    compliance with following :

    a) Plate thickness shall be equal or more than that of standard structural

    sections.

    b) Strength of plate material shall be equal or more than that of standard

    structural sections.

    c) Details of welding (Fillet/Full penetration, and size of welds etc.) and NDE

    for welds shall be proposed by manufacturer, for Contractors approval,

    and shall be included in ITP/suitable Quality Control documents.

    d) Proper care shall be taken to avoid warping during welding. Manufacturer

    shall propose precautions to be taken and inspection criteria, for

    Contractors approval, and shall be included in ITP/suitable Quality

    Control documents.

    19) All fillet welds shall be 6 mm or pipe wall/plate thickness being welded,

    whichever is less, unless noted otherwise in the standard details.

    20) For supports on horizontal insulated pipe of size 1.5 & below, without slope,

    insulation at bottom half of pipe shall be cut 50 mm on either side of

    supporting member. For supports on vertical insulated pipe of size 1.5 &

    below, half pipe insulation towards supporting member shall be cut 50 mm on

    either side of supporting member.

    21) Unless otherwise specified in the isometrics, the gaps indicated in the support

    standard are to be maintained.

    22) For shoes on insulated lines, slots may be incorporated suitably in the shoe

    assembly to accommodate insulation straps/tracer lines to suit field

    requirements. Slot details provided/shown in shoe detail drawing are for

    references and may be omitted wherever not required.

    23) The bought out items shall be clearly marked with part no. wherever

    applicable.

    24) Supports which need to be assembled (Fabricated parts with Bought out items)

    shall be identified with part number for easy traceability.

    25) Supports for lines with acoustic insulation shall be isolated by providing

    vibration absorbing pad assemblies under the pipe supports.

    Guides and stops on these lines shall be provided with vibration absorbing pad

    assembly (APS, APG and APLS).

    26) Pipe for trunnion, reinforcement pad, if any shall be as per parent pipe

    specification and shall reflect on isometric as a part of piping MTO and to be

    included in piping bill of materials

    27) Details of Vessel Support Clips shall be internally issued to Mechanical group.

    28) Height of support (Primary or Secondary) to be used along with PBC type

    support shall have 200 mm extra length to be adjusted at site to cater for

    sloping requirement of concrete paving.

    29) Small bore connection subjected to FIV/AIV shall be provided with two plane

    bracing (DBVD/DCBCD type supports).

    Apart from AIV/FIV recommendations, where ever stress engineer recommends

    based on the connection, orientation, length, attached valve / component

    weights, than that particular location shall be provided with bracing as per

    support standards.

    30) All supports shall be designed for design life of 25 years.

    31) Suitable Boundary conditions and support type shall be considered at interface

    point between metallic and RTRP pipe to arrest the displacement of metallic

    piping getting transferred to RTRP.

    32) Clamp shoe shall not be used for lines connected to reciprocating compressors

    and pumps. Preference to given for welded shoe.

    Pipe Span for Carbon Steel Pipes 5.2

    The data below is applicable for:

    Carbon steel pipes (Sch. 80 (XS) or higher for sizes 0.5 to 2, Sch. STD or

    higher for sizes 3 to 12, Sch. 20 or higher for sizes 14 to 24 and Std. Sch. or

    higher for 26 to 48).

    Maximum Allowable Bending Stress considered is 40 N/mm2 and allowable

    deflection considered is 12.7 mm.

    The weight of insulation and cladding is based on insulation thickness

    varying from 40 mm for pipe up to 2, 50 mm for NB 3 to 4 pipe,

    65mm for 8 to 10, 75mm for NB 12 to 48 pipe and a density of 150

    Kg/m3.

    1

    For supports on horizontal insulated pipe of size 1.5 & below, without slope, insulation at bottom half of pipe shall be cut 50mm on either side of supporting member. For supports on vertical insulated pipe of size 1.5 & below, half pipe insulation towards supporting member shall be cut 50mm on either side of supporting member.

    a) Wear Pad is to be provided for : All CS Pipe material - bare pipe sizes 18 NB and above with wall thickness

    schedule STD and below. All SS Pipe material - bare pipe sizes 16 NB and above with wall thickness

    schedule 10S and below. b) For other pipe sizes Wear Pad requirement shall be checked by Stress Engineer based on available contact length of supporting member.

    3 For these Lines first preference shall be clamped type shoes instead of welded shoes.

    4

    For lines requiring clamped shoes, at axial stop locations, a combination of welded shoe and wear pad (if required) shall be used. However for lines subjected under AIV study or at downstream of PSV, the support at Axial stop location shall have encirclement pad.

    5 For rest support on vertical leg of pipe, use Trunnion/ UBF /suitable combination of available primary support as per pipe material.

    6 For 2 Phase flow lines, FCG type supports to be used based on feasibility checked by Stress Engineer. 7 On vertical line, SG2 guide shall at as four directional guide

    8 For axial stops on bare SS lines, axial stop members shall be SS (same as parent pipe) or a combination of "WP + Axial stop" shall be used. For line stops on bare Nickel alloy lines line stop members shall be combination of WP + line stop.

    9 Availability of flange pair within 500mm from axial stop location to be verified and ensured.

    10 S5 Type shoes shall be used for SS lines when temperature is below -46 C.

    11 For vertical line above 4", trunnions are to be used for rest supports and selection shall be in accordance with pipe support standard.

    If PWHT requirements are as per B31.3 (based on pipe wall thickness), then lugs or other pipe supporting elements welded to pipe doesnt require PWHT as long as thickness through the weld in any plane is less than twice the minimum material thickness requiring heat treatment. However for pipes requiring all welds to be performed PWHT (As per process requirement), support shall be of clamp type except at axial stops location. At such welded support locations, PWHT shall be carried out.

    13 PWHT requirement shall be reviewed as per project requirement to minimize use of clamps.

    14 RTRP lines shall be supported as per RTRP vendor recommendation.

    15 Line size 24" & above, the clamp shoe shall not be provided where lateral movement is expected i.e. for first two support from elbow at long length's turning point, and near/at expansion loop.

    16 Lines subjected to Acoustic Induced Vibration (AIV) shall be supported with clamp type arrangement if recommended by AIV study., However at axial stop location for such lines welded support to be used with full encirclement pad (EP)

    17 Use of trunnion shall be minimized.

    For shear lugs site welded on pipe at line stop locations for clamp type shoes, local galvanizing coat shall be done after welding. Use of welded supports shall be avoided for CS Galvanized lines. For lines pre-fabricated and then galvanized, in cases where welded pipe supports directly attached to parent pipe are mandatory, welding of such supports shall be carried out prior to galvanizing. For galvanized lines in size ranges which are directly procured in pre-galvanized form, no welded supports shall be used.

    Use of welded supports shall be avoided for CS-FBE/EPOXY Lined pipes. In cases where welded pipe supports directly attached to parent pipe such as wear pads, lifting lugs, welded shoes, welded shoes with wear pad and trunnion are mandatory, welding of such supports shall be carried out prior to FBE/EPOXY coating. For locations where welded type shoes with line stops are unavoidable, it is to be ensured that break up flanges is available within 500-1000 mm from the location of line stops to perform repair of coating if required at site.

    20 For CS/LTCS Pipes with internal cladding (Ni-Alloy), preference shall be clamp type shoes instead of welded shoes to minimize welding. For line stop locations and higher guide load locations, welded shoes shall be used.

    21 For Secondary Supports with field weld, @ 100mm extra length to be provided for any Site adjustment.

    22 Do not use guide G3 or G7 along with line stop tag LS1 for 26 and above pipe size, as this arrangement cannot installed together.
