3RD XIThis has been a vintage season.Experience of coaching the 3rd XI hasover the years shown me, withoutexception, that boys at this level combinea tremendous pluck and tenacity withsome impressive skills and abundantenthusiasm. It is a real joy to be part ofthis exceptional environment; I owe theboys a debt of gratitude for their fineefforts this season - they continue a finetradition.Congratulations, boys! BY

1ST XIWell done to the first XI on a verysuccessful season.  The boys played withheart and determination throughout atough fixture list and enjoyed somefantastic results.  Well done to FreddieLee who was top goal scorer and to thesquad as a whole, who were a pleasure tocoach and work with.  Many thanks toLuke Wilson who captained the side verywell, and to the parents who came andsupported the boys in all weathers.  Oneof the season’s highlights was winningthe John Norman five-a-side trophy hereat The New Beacon. JEB

2ND XIThis has been a very successful seasonfor the team and they can be proud oftheir achievements. They played withmuch flair and their goals for and againsttally was quite remarkable.Congratulations to all the boys who werepromoted to the 1st XI throughout theseason. EK

4TH XIIt was a joy to coach this group ofyoung men; they worked hard toimprove throughout the season.  Aftera shaky start the team went fromstrength to strength. The positioning, running and passing all improved andthey began to score goals more freely. The defence was solid and we kept anumber of clean sheets. The comraderyduring half-time team talks was secondto none; I thoroughly enjoyed thebanter!  A special thanks to all thoseparents who came along and supportedthe boys so fervently. Well done on afine season, boys!

DB

COLTS AAfter 2 minutes of the season and a goaldown to DPS Cranbrook, nobody couldhave predicted that the Colts A wouldhave such a successful season. In fact thatearly season slip was to prove one of onlythree goals conceded in a total of 11games, in what was to be an undefeatedseason. The team also qualified for the ISFANational 7-a-sides in May by winningtheir Regional Heat at Ardingly College.Three other tournaments saw them winsilverware, either through the platecompetition (Charterhouse 6s) or aslosing finalists (St Michael’s and HildenGrange festivals). A highly successfulseason all-round. IP

COLTS BThe Colts B season followed the usualpattern of a bit of fun and somecompetitive sport.  With seven wins fromnine regular matches the results weregood (only Solefield show real classagainst us) and the winning of the ‘B’division of the St Michael’s 5-a-sidetournament was the icing on the cake. The loss of Ben Pearl to the ‘A’ teammeant that we were never quite as solidat the back, but thereafter Rogers,Burgess and Henderson worked hard indefence  and Williamson in goal was arock.  Gollan scored many a wonder goalwith his left boot and Sussmes netted themost, despite his too many touches.Parker was busy at centre-mid and Taylorand Hall shared the right hand slot togood effect.

PB

5TH XIAs impressive as an unbeaten seasonis, what’s even more impressive is theseriously dizzying goal difference, withover 30 goals netted in six matches andonly two or three goals conceded.Perhaps even more impressive was thatthe squad included “every manstanding” in Year 7 and 8 with anemphasis to ensure that each and everyboy in the squad had a fair rotation ofmatches.  To say that the boys gaveevery match their best doesn’t begin tocome close, and I would like to thankmy mighty 5ths for such enthusiasm, dedication and commitment, whichcreated such a wonderful season.

END OF SEASON FOOTBALL REPORTSCOLTS C

The Under 11C team had an exceptionalfootball season. They were unbeaten, winning all of their games except one(which they drew). All the boys playeda part. They were a joy to work with andhad so much fun. Every school that weplayed against praised theirperformance and mentioned how wellthey played together as a team toproduce wonderful football. I am veryproud of all the hard work that they haveall put in to achieve such great resultsand admirable sportsmanship. ME

COLTS DThe Colts D had a tremendous unbeatenseason in which they have excelledthemselves. They played an attractive, attacking brand of football with someglorious passing moves leading to goalsa-plenty; but they have also known howto dig deep, for example in the nail-biting draw against Hilden Grange, thelast match of the season, when weequalized with 2 minutes to go. Therehas been a great team spirit too and theyhave been a real pleasure to coach.Well done everybody!

EYB

COLTS EThe Es had a very good football seasonover all playing 7 fixtures: winning 4,drawing 1 and losing 2. The losses cameagainst DPS Cranbrook and HildenGrange. We were weak at finishing theball off at the start of term, but as timewent on the boys’ skills improved. Ourmost notable performance was an 8-1 winagainst St Michael’s. Well done boys.

SR

COLTS FOver all, the Fs had a very solid seasonof football with 6 fixtures played in total. We won 3, drew 2 and lost 1 match. Westarted off against Yardley with a 2-1 lossdespite having greater possession andgoal scoring opportunities. We found ourtouch and proceeded to win/draw the restof the matches. Our best victory cameagainst Solefield 5-1. Well done to theboys, particularly in our last fixtureagainst Hilden Grange, where we were2-0 down and came back to draw thematch. SR

UNDER 10ADespite some lovely free-flowingfootball the Under 10A found earlyseason victories difficult to come by.Struck woodwork, brilliant goalkeepingand just bad luck meant the ‘goals for’column was stuck in neutral. However amore direct and confident approachturned things round from the mid-pointof the season and the team finished withthree wins and a draw in the last fivematches. They also won the plate competition atthe St Michael’s 5 aside festival. IP

UNDER 10E & 10FThe U10E and F teams had avery successful term of football, demonstrating much personal progressfrom every single player. They had afocus on passing and shooting duringtraining sessions, success of which wasevident during our matches with the largenumber of goals scored and the fluidityof play. RC

UNDER 10BWith only a single loss all season, theU10B squad can be very proud of all theyachieved on the field. A 10-0 win awayat Dulwich Prep in the first match of theseason set the tone for many moreconfident displays. Teamwork wasfantastic and every boy played his partthroughout. Winning the St Michael’sfive-a-side tournament was anotherfantastic achievement, despite thehorrendous weather! All in all the boyswere a pleasure to coach and I wish themcontinued success as they progress to theU11s. TP

UNDER 10CThe Under 10C team showed resilience,in what was a tricky season. As the boysgained match experience at this leveltheir teamwork and positional playimproved. They never faltered from theirgoal, which was to win matches. Ithoroughly enjoyed coaching the teamand look forward to seeing them progressthroughout the school. DB

UNDER 9

The Under 9 age group had their firstseason of regular school matches thisyear, with all 6 teams making vastimprovements throughout the seasonduring games sessions, which wasreflected by improving performances byall teams throughout the year.Through all games sessions the key focusfor all boys was football skilldevelopment as well as positionalunderstanding then applying these skillswithin a game situation. A highlight wasthat all boys had numerous opportunitiesto represent the school; with every teamplaying at least six matches against otherschools. All teams worked hard for each otherdeveloping a strong team spirit throughtheir matches, also displaying a strongsense of sportsmanship and fair play. Allteams played well throughout the seasontaking on the instruction from theirmanagers and applying it into thematches.Over all this was a very successfulseason for all boys involved in the Under9 football. All teams played well andshowed consistent progress throughoutthe season, which will lay a strongfoundation for future football seasons tocome.

PLAYED 43WON 14DREW 7LOST 22

UNDER 10DA short five-match season was mostlysuccessful with wins over Dulwich Prep,Downsend and Yardley Court (twice).A loss by one goal to Danes Hill wasdisappointing; on another occasion thescore could have been reversed!  Best ofall, was the progress made by the squadas a whole and the growth in confidencewas clearly discernible.  Of particularnote, was the solidity at the back and theeagle-eyed goalkeeping of ConorCoogan.
