Chairperson Becking called the December 13, 2018 meeting of the Florence School Dist. #14-1 board of education to order at 5:34 pm. Other board members in attendance were Kahnke, Rislov and Roe. Maag arrived at 5:48. Others present were H. Becking, A. Rininger, M. Bastian (HS princ), M. Reed (Supt) and S. Sumner (Business Manager). The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. A quorum was in attendance.No one spoke during open forum.Motion by Roe, second by Kahnke to approve the agenda. Motion carried.Motion by Rislov, second by Kahnke to approve the minutes of the November meeting. Motion carried.Motion by Roe, second by Rislov to approve the following unaudited financial reports. Reported on the TV’s that will be installed in the commons for live-streaming and news; the inservice, the activities planned for the last day of school before Christmas break; the Christmas music concert with thanks and congratulations extended to Mrs. Klitzke on an excellent performance; drug dog had been in attendance; motivational speaker for the students scheduled for January 3rd. Congratulations were extended to Mrs. Teri Haagensen on being selected as employee of the month, to Anthony Wright, Hayden Mastel, and Kai Schaack and for being selected principals of the day; and to Keaton Zubke 1st place, Layne Haagensen 2nd place and Emma Caulfield 3rd place in the grades 1-4 division and to Hayden Bistodeau 1st place, Mikie Alkire 2nd place and Adam Moe 3rd place in the grade 5-8 division of the local Spelling Bee contest. Sherri added that the FCC banner had been ordered and hung and that Santa and old-fashioned sleigh rides will take place at the Country School on the 16th.Mr. Bastian reported on the semester test schedule, the activities planned for the last day of school before Christmas break, drivers ed plans, dance team to perform, live stream link on the web page, that the kinks in the Pixellot on-line streaming camera have been worked out, and congratulations given to Brian Jorgenson for attending State OI and to Brianna Jorgensen on her accomplishment at the BIG (Business Is Great) Idea Competition. Florence and Henry’s combined ADM is a fraction over the class B cap for reclassification. Mr. Reed, Mr. Bastian and the Henry administration will look into the appeal process. Other discussion regarding co-op sports took place such as transportation and salary expense, use of our local gymnasium and quality of life. NTHS and NESC topics were reviewed. Proposed upcoming legislation along with the Governor’s budget recommendations were reviewed. A change in the length of the school day was discussed for the 2018-19 Master school calendar.Mr. Reed gave an update on buildings, grounds and transportation. Ashlee Rininger, 7th & 8th grade SS, World History/ Geography, US History and Govt. teacher spoke about a computer code data work and a memory game she uses in 7th & 8th grade Social Studies and a Mission US simulation. She took students to National History Day with 3 groups placing. There is more competition to follow. Mr. Reed, supt. & elem princ. Reported on the TV’s that will be installed in the commons for live-streaming and news; the inservice, the activities planned for the last day of school before Christmas break; the Christmas music concert with thanks and congratulations extended to Mrs. Klitzke on an excellent performance; drug dog had been in attendance; motivational speaker for the students scheduled for January 3rd. Congratulations were extended to Mrs. Teri Haagensen on being selected as employee of the month, to Anthony Wright, Hayden Mastel, and Kai Schaack and for being selected principals of the day; and to Keaton Zubke 1st place, Layne Haagensen 2nd place and Emma Caulfield 3rd place in the grades 1-4 division and to Hayden Bistodeau 1st place, Mikie Alkire 2nd place and Adam Moe 3rd place in the grade 5-8 division of the local Spelling Bee contest. Sherri added that the FCC banner had been ordered and hung and that Santa and old-fashioned sleigh rides will take place at the Country School on the 16th.Mr. Bastian reported on the semester test schedule, the activities planned for the last day of school before Christmas break, drivers ed plans, dance team to perform, live stream link on the web page, that the kinks in the Pixellot on-line streaming camera have been worked out, and congratulations given to Brian Jorgenson for attending State OI and to Brianna Jorgensen on her accomplishment at the BIG (Business Is Great) Idea Competition. Florence and Henry’s combined ADM is a fraction over the class B cap for reclassification. Mr. Reed, Mr. Bastian and the Henry administration will look into the appeal process. Other discussion regarding co-op sports took place such as transportation and salary expense, use of our local gymnasium and quality of life. NTHS and NESC topics were reviewed. Proposed upcoming legislation along with the Governor’s budget recommendations were reviewed. A change in the length of the school day was discussed for the 2018-19 Master school calendar.Mr. Reed gave an update on buildings, grounds and transportation. Gray Construction is coming over Christmas break to seal some seams in the ceiling sheeting in the new gym to prevent condensation leaks. The 2012 school bus is no longer running.
