Kakariki Release

Today Jaiden, Caleb, Rosie, Dante & Helen took part in the re-

lease of

several kakariki into the Abel Tasman National Park. The birds

have been acclimatizing in a special aviary at Wainui Hut for a

couple of weeks. This is the second release of kakariki.

Weetbix Tryathlon

Last weekend a number of our chil-

dren took part in the

Weetbix Tryathlon held in

Nelson. The children had to swim,

bike and run various

distances depending on their age.

Congratulations to all those

Motupipi children that entered

pieces from Room One

Jaiden and Dante learned what a Horopito plant is! Wendy Reeve (project Janszoon) Ross (DOC) and Dante, Jaiden, Rosie and Caleb

Caleb - It was great fun. The kakariki were really noisy and chattering lots because they were excited to be going out into the bush. They have cool colours, bright green with a bit of yellow and red on their forehead. I helped clean up their food from in the aviary with Rosemarie, a volunteer, that had been looking after them. They had extra special food before they flew out so they have full tummies. I also helped Ross the DOC person pull the feeder up in the tree for them outside the aviary. Rosie - I really enjoyed the day. I learned that kakariki are the only native bird that can be raised in captivity. It was really fun seeing them all released and watching them flying around in the trees by the aviary. I saw a live Powellaphanta on the way down. It's not often you see them! Mostly you find empty shells that have been eaten by rats or possums or weka. I took photos of it and a robin but it was hard to get the kakariki because they are so fast.

Tiger Golf

Junior Tiger!

Grady and ex pupil Abbie took part in New Zealand’s ‘Junior Tiger’ golf tourna-ment in the weekend. This is one of a number of tournaments to find who will represent New Zealand at the World Junior Golf Championships. It was a great opportunity for them, as they have been learning and playing golf throughout summer and it was a chance to put their skills to the test.

Golden Bay School’s Swimming Sports Yesterday, we sent a team of children to compete in the Golden Bay School’s

Swimming Sports held at the High School pool. All swam well with many making

semis and finals which meant for a tiring day.

Many of the children needed to draw on our vision of Believe in Yourself and Take

the Challenge, as they were very nervous and at times doubted themselves.,

We were proud of the effort put in by the children and felt they represented our

school particularly well.
