The intention will be forwarded to the priest along with the name and address of the person requesting the mass and the priest will send a note confirming that the mass with the intention has been offered. For those interested in this association, please come to the Church Office.

PUDDLE IN THIRD GRADE CLASSROOM

Come with me to a third grade classroom . . . There is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and all of a sudden, there is a puddle between his feet and the front of his pants are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened. It’s never happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it. When the girls find out, they’ll never speak to him again as long as he lives.

The boy believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his head down and prays this prayer, “Dear God, this is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes from now I’m dead meat.”

He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered.

As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water.

Susie trips in front of the teacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the boy’s lap.

The boy pretends to be angry, but all the while is saying to himself, “Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!”

Now, all of a sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives him gym shorts to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children are on their hands and knees cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful. But, as life would have it, the ridicule that should have been his has been transferred to someone else—Susie.

She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. “You’ve done enough, you klutz!”

Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and whispers, “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

Susie whispers back, “I wet my pants once too.”

May God help us see the opportunities that are always around us to do good.

Remember . . . Just going to Church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE PROGRAM SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL Our giving tree for the poor and needy in our area went up on the weekend of November 17/18th in the Narthex. For those who do not use this entrance, there are trees set up in the North and South entrances of the church with tags on them. Each tag has a number identifying the family, the

first name and age of the child. Each child has a total of 4 tags on the tree, which includes: 2 separate tags for clothing; a tag for a $35 shoe gift card; a tag for a gift card or toy of their choice. It is very important that you tape the tag with the information face up on the top of the wrapped package or attach to the bike, then place them under or near the tree in the Narthex. Gift cards can be placed in the red box next to the tree. We request that once you take a tag, please make a copy of it, or write down the information, as we have no way to track lost tags without the family number and the child’s name. Please be advised that we are the only area organization that provides gifts to teenagers up to the age of 17. Please consider taking tags for these children as this may be the last Christmas they receive gifts. Also, it would be very helpful if each tag has a gift receipt enclosed in case the family needs to exchange the item, or in the case of gift cards, an “activation confirmation” and for Payless gift cards an ”inquiry receipt”. The gifts need to be returned to the Giving Tree

NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12th. Thank you in advance for your generosity in supporting this most worthwhile project. If you have any question, please contact Peggy Harrop @ 751-5604

HISTORY OF THE FEAST The solemnity is a newer feast in the Catholic Church; it was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925. The pontiff was witness to a turbulent time in the world's history. Secularism was on the rise and dangerous dictatorships were emerging in Europe and beyond. Christ had long been referred to as King, but Pope Pius and the Christian faithful saw the respect and reverence for Christ's authority waning in the midst of the unrest during the first part of the 20th century. In response, the feast was set with the intent to reaffirm and refocus faith and respect in the kingship of Jesus.

FREE MEDICAL CLINIC OPENING IN LEESBURG:

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS The Lazarus Free Medical Clinic, a program of Catholic Charities of Central Florida, in partnership with the San Pedro de Jesus Maldonado Catholic Mission, is opening an extension of the Wildwood based clinic at the St. Paul Catholic Community in Leesburg in January. This free medical facility will provide free dental care to the uninsured. Whether insured or uninsured, access to dental care in Central Florida is exceptionally challenging. In Lake County, there is only one dentist for every 2,190 residents and shockingly, only one dentist for every 4,130 in Sumter County. Thanks to the generosity and support of the St. Paul Catholic Community, the Lazarus Dental Clinic will service uninsured individuals living at or below 200% of the poverty level with professional, quality dental care at no cost. We are currently recruiting dental care professionals and clerical volunteers to join the clinic. We are also looking for volunteers from your parish. People can volunteer as often as they like, there are no minimum requirements. Anyone interested in volunteering can call Erin Burley (Clinic Manager) at 352-602-4640 or email at [email protected] to learn more or Catholic Charities Senior Director of Healthcare Services, Jen Stephenson-Crouch, at 407-913-5005 or email [email protected]

VENERABLE FULTON SHEEN SPEAKS . . . There are three possible kinds of God: the god of one’s own ego, in which the atheist believes, and which is also the god of modern confusionism; the god of nature, of stone and gold and nature, which belonged to the old religions of idolatry; and the

supreme God, who made both man and nature, and redeemed them both upon the Cross. Those who tell us that they deny the existence of God are merely substituting one god for another.

THANKSGIVING DAY PRAYER

Lord, we thank you for the goodness of our people

and for the spirit of justice that fills this nation.

We thank you for the beauty and fullness of the land and the challenge of the cities.

We thank you for our work and our rest, for one another, and for our homes.

We thank you, Lord: accept our thanksgiving on this day.

We pray and give thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord. R: Amen.

ANOINTING MASS WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2018

4:00 PM—IN CHURCH On Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 4:00 PM in Church, the Priests of St. Timothy will celebrate an Anointing Mass. Please join with your fellow parishioners to receive this most blessed sacrament that “brings the compassionate presence of Christ into the midst of the sufferings of those who are ill.” The Anointing of the Sick “is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived.” —CCC, no. 1514, citing SC, no. 73 The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that “the Anointing of the Sick is a liturgical and communal celebration, whether it takes place in a family home, a hospital or church, for a single sick person or a whole group of sick persons” (CCC, no. 1517).

-excerpts from the Catechism of the Catholic Church for Adults.

"THE LAMBS SUPPER - THE MASS AS HEAVEN ON EARTH,"

BY DR. SCOTT HAHN. The “Lambs Supper” reveals a long-lost secret of the Church: the early Christians’ key to understanding the mysteries of the Mass was the Book of Revelation in the New Testament. Beautifully written, Dr. Hahn will help you see the Mass with new eyes, pray the liturgy with a renewed heart, and enter into the Mass more fully, enthusiastically, intelligently, and powerfully than ever before. The four weekly sessions begin Friday, November 30, from 9:30—10:30 AM, for an introduction to the book and the following weekly sessions. The book costs $12 and will be available during this first session. The presentation by Deacon Dick and discussions will follow on Fridays, December 7, 14, 21, 2018 from 9:30—10:30 AM. Please call 352-753-0989, or e-mail Mike MacDonald, [email protected] to register and for any questions.

CATECHISM CORNER:HOW TO EAT AN ELEPHANT ONE BITE AT A TIME

Article 103 (CCC): The church has always venerated the Scriptures as she venerates the Lord’s Body. She never ceases to be present to the faithful, the bread of life, taken from the one table of God’s Word and Christ’s Body.

REFLECTION: The Mass is primarily an experience of Jesus. In the Scripture readings we encounter “The Word”, and in the Eucharist we are fed by Jesus, “the Bread of Life”.

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS AND PARISHIONERS

FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!

An Example of Community Outreach In action: “A parishioner spotted a family of 5 with small children and suitcases walking along rte.441. They were brought to the church. The family had to get to Baltimore where a job awaited the father. St Vincent de Paul and St. Timothy combined to provide meals, lodging, cash and bus tickets to their destination. Thank you for your assistance.

If there is an emergency during Mass, the Head Usher will call 911. Please DO NOT call 911 from your personal cell. The Church has a direct line.
