12th February 2017 AD MINISTRY MORSEL The wave of prayer growing through the parish by the daily use of ‘On Our Knees’ will bear much fruit in our parish life. I have been reading through Acts. One of the things that struck me afresh was the significant role of corporate prayer in the life and growth of the early church. The Apostles and other believers were constant in prayer after Jesus’ ascension (Acts 1:14). They prayed before choosing an apostle to replace Judas (Acts 1:24). Prayer was a feature of their regular gatherings (Acts 2:42). The believers prayed together when Peter and John were released from prison (Acts 4:23-31). The church earnestly prayed when Peter was in jail again (Acts 12:5). My desire is that our corporate prayer life will reflect that of the New Testament church. There are a number of existing opportunities for corporate prayer. I want to put a fresh spotlight on them in the weeks ahead with the encouragement for each to explore their potential. ‘We must learn to evaluate the significance of what we do in the way God evaluates it. We must learn to value what God values, and to see as significant what God chooses to use for his glory. Have you noticed our February Poster? Jesus gave his life at the cross as a payment for our badness and now he offers new life - a fresh start

with God. But first we have to look honestly in the mirror and admit, l like Sarwath Ahmed Gafoor, that we have a problem.

Prayer: Dear God, please help me to be honest with myself and with you. And please take the burden of my sin from my heart.

to everyone joining us in fellowship and worship in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Please join us for morning tea in our Parish Centre from 9.20am.

MISSIONWITHOUTBORDERS - Seeds that Bring Hope - Battling his own war, Nikola receives a helping hand. He was five years old at the

time, and the bloodiest war in Europe since World War Two had just begun. His family fled for a refugee town in what is today Bosnia-Herzegovina. When the war finished they returned to Mostar, most of which had been damaged or destroyed. Nikola’s father had abandoned them. Nikola married and had a family, but two years ago his wife left him and their two children. Desperate and helpless, he approached Mission Without Borders seeking help. “We didn’t expect it from anybody, as we are often rejected here, but you are different. Apart from having peace, day-today living here is a difficult as it was 20 years ago. Your help is the only chance we have. Please pray for Nikola and others like him. (Anne)

NEXT WEEKS SERMON READING

Galatians 3:1-25 (p1169)

DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING is an integral part of our next stage of growth as a parish. An exciting development is the beginning of two discipleship training groups within the parish. A group of the senior members of Youth@5 are meeting with David and Leone an hour before the main programme commences as a means of growing their faith, learning to apply the Bible to each area of their lives and developing leadership amongst youth and in the parish more generally. The second is focused on the Friday Night Fellowship timeslot where there is opportunity to join a group that will explore more deeply key biblical principles about discipleship and how that might shape our ministry as a parish. For more details about the Friday night group please talk with David.

ON OUR KNEES is a new insert in the newsletter providing us all opportunity to pray together daily by including the daily prayer point in your own prayer time.

WHO WILL BE KING is an excellent gospel outline in clear, simple language that is a good resource for every parish household. Please take one and use it to clarify your own understanding of and response to the gospel. Learn it so you can share it with others.

MISSING ITEMS MYSTERY: If you can shed any light on a current mystery in terms of missing items in the church please speak to David. A small fan usually positioned where the service leaders sit has gone missing. A bongo drum in the church loaned by a parishioner has been replaced by a smaller version of the drum. One of the concerns is this may be highlighting security issues.

DOG WALKING is an opportunity to serve Sally Jary at this point in time. Kent needs daily exercise which he is not getting at the moment. If you are able to take Kent for a walk first thing in the morning or in the evening please ring Sally.

COMBINED BREAKFAST: Everyone is welcome to join us on Saturday March 4 @ 7.30am for a mens’/womens’ breakfast. To ensure catering is up to the usual high standard could you please put your name on the list at the back of the church. Cost: Gold coin donation.

CURSILLO OPEN DAY: March 25 @ 9.30am cuppa 10am start information on board at back of church.
