"Part of that plan is the inevitability that we will get to the point that rather than one school being closed, all of our schools will be closed," he said. We must accept that if there are people affected in our community the Department of Education and Training (D.E.T) may close our school. This will not be a local decision. The expectation is that with the colder weather and flu season approaching, the coronavirus will peak as well. The Victorian Government advises that flu shots should be considered by all community members but particularly for those in the high risk categories. Prep Athletics

The Prep students enjoyed participating in their Athletics activities on Tuesday afternoon at school. Several activities were organised by Mrs Taylor and the Grade 6 House Captains and students spent time rotating between each. A large amount of parent support was on hand which was pleasing to report.

Independence

We are now well and truly settled into the school year with Easter holidays already fast approaching. At school we strive to develop many important life skills in our students such as resilience and independence. To support us with this, it would be helpful if parents could encourage their child to complete their morning tasks at school independently or with a friend. This includes:

- Dropping your child at the school gate each morning, rather than walking them to class. - Agreeing on a known meeting place at the end of the school day

Eg. shelter shed or gate. - Getting them to pack/unpack their own school bags.

Learning Apps Just another reminder about the various apps that we use to support student learning in Literacy and Numeracy. Each student has an individual login and all tasks and activities are tailored to meet individual abilities. These are paid subscriptions which complement the learning that is taking place at school. We encourage all students to use these valuable resources at home when possible.

Room 4 What a fantastic start to the year we have had in Room 4. All students have been working their hardest to show what they are learning. It has been great to see how quickly the Preps have settled into the classroom with our wonderful Grade 1’s looking out for them! Well done to every student in Room 4 on their efforts so far this year.

Melbourne Camp Indications on whether your child is attending Melbourne camp or not is now overdue; as well as the first deposit. Could you please ensure the indication and deposits are met. If there are any concerns, please contact the school. Spelling Mastery Students in Years 3-6 are now well underway in terms of partaking in the Spelling Mastery program. Students have each completed a placement test at the end of last year and grouped accordingly. All reports have been positive in terms of student participation and attitude. The program has greatly assisted in our NAPLAN results in Grammar and Punctuation over the last few years. Maths Students have been well immersed in Number and Place Value learning this term. Students have been developing their skills in terms of problem solving, reasoning, fluency and understanding. Please continue to promote a positive outlook on Maths outside the realms of school; students use strategies that best suit them to solve problems and have been working on articulating how they reached a solution. From Parent Teacher Interviews, a strong indication was given in support of a Parent Information night on modern teaching practises of Maths/Numeracy and how you can support your child at home. Stay tuned for more information on this later in the year.

Year 3 - 6 Mr Murphy

During the week the Preps worked on ‘Magic Sentences’. These

sentences are made up of the Sounds they are learning in

Sounds-Write. Ella’s task was to pick a sentence to read and

write. She then had to illustrate her writing. She pointed to each

sound to help her read the word. Ella completed this task all by

herself!

Will was very proud of his Big-Write efforts, he wrote a recount

about the Athletics Day last week.

‘My teacher at athletics was Miss Smith. My favourite event was

the 100m race because we got to use our running skills. For

lunch I had a hot dog and a party pie. I had a very hot lunch.’
