  • 7/27/2019 11Evonikupgrade baghouses

    12/25

    Typical failure patterns

    contamination from the clean

gas side - no penetrationthrough the felt

    penetration through leakages

    or holes

    penetration through the felt

    (insufficient filtration efficiency or

    too frequent cleaning/too low

    cleaning set point)

  • 7/27/2019 11Evonikupgrade baghouses

    13/25

    Typical failure patterns

Abrasiontypically related to high local gas velocity and dust load

bag materials show different abrasion resistance, but problems ofinhomogenious gas distribution have to be solved to get satisfactoryoperating behaviour

  • 7/27/2019 11Evonikupgrade baghouses

    14/25

    Typical failure patterns

    Cracks

as a result of chemical ageing (loss of tenacity below critical limits)as a result of mechanical burden

e.g. as a result of dust penetration (high dp, frequent cleaning, internal abrasion)

As a result of damaged cages or contact between bags or bags and wall

  • 7/27/2019 11Evonikupgrade baghouses

    15/25

    Typical failure patterns

Membrane damage along a supporting cage wire- Penetration of dust into the glass fabric results in internal abrasion

    Bag filter :

    size: 720 m

    A/C ratio: 1,2-1,3 m/min

    dust load: 500 g/m

    Temperature: 85 C

As a result of an increase of the a/c-ratio the bag

life of the polyester felts dropped from 18 to 7months.

Problems with increasing differential pressure anddust emissions were experienced.
