1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 General

If a difference is found between the general descriptions in this Introduction part and the more detailed descriptions given in section 2 ‘Buildings and Structures’ part then the description in the latter has preference.

The external- and infrastructure works are considered forming part of the External Works and are described in section X1.2.

1.1.1 Basis

This description relates mainly to the FLS plant layout drawing 10274040-1.0.

1.1.2 Definition of parties

If, in the following the below terms are used, then they are to be understood as follows:CL means ClientMC means Main Contractor and shall be understood to include the following scope:- Civil Works- Structural Steel- Mechanical erection- Electrical erection- Civil Designer for Civil and Structural Steel worksEquipment supplier means FLSmidth (FLS)

1.1.3 Introduction

In this section the various buildings and structures for the different departments are described. For description of the External Works refer to section X1.2 and for the Temporary Facilities refer to section X1.3.

This description has been divided into:- Introduction- Buildings and Structures

The introduction describes the geotechnical conditions, earth works, concrete structures, steel structures and finishing works in general terms. The introduction gives further general information regarding the different types of structures.

In section 2 "Buildings and Structures" the specific descriptions of the individual buildings and structures are given.

1.1.4 Dimensions

Dimensions indicated under the individual buildings and structures are the external dimensions of the main building. Smaller local protruding parts etc. are not included in the dimensions given, but more important protruding parts may be informed separately. All dimensions given are indicative and approximate only.

Heights of structures and depths of basements, if any, are maximum values and elevations have been related to final ground level, however without addition for depth to foundations.

Lengths indicated for conveyor bridges refer to the horizontal projection between supporting buildings.

1.1.5 Limitations

Only major structures are described. Minor structures, such as pipe supports, smaller duct supports, platforms, cable supports etc. are not mentioned in this description.

This document is to be read in conjunction with the drawings listed and attached in section L.

Concerning the overall layout of the plant the drawings prevails. However in case of discrepancy between the drawings and this description, the information in the description generally prevails in relation to the quantities and this applies to the type of structures.

1.1.6 Geotechnical Conditions

No specific geotechnical conditions for the site are made available at the present stage by the Client.

For calculation of quantities the below listed conditions, bearing capacities and foundation depths have been assumed being valid:

- Excavation is to be carried out in soil only.

- Excavated soil is suitable as backfill material, apart from top soil.

- The sub-soil consists of uniform and horizontal layers without cavities.

- Slopes at excavations are stable at normal slope of 60o without shoring or other form of stabilization.

- The conditions applied for the different departments in the preliminary quantity estimate are listed in Enclosure 1 “Geotechnical Conditions” to this Building Description, but the overall concept can be described as following:

a. No piling is required.

b. The smaller structures and buildings are generally directly founded maximum 2.0 m below final ground level on soil with a minimum allowable bearing capacity of 400 kN/m2. However due to the nature of the some of the buildings (e.g. those having basements) the actual foundation level can be at a greater depth than the 2.0 m.

c. Storages and retaining walls are directly founded maximum 2.0 m below final ground level on soil with a minimum allowable bearing capacity of 400 kN/m2.

d. The larger structures and buildings, such as cooler-, feed- and mill buildings etc. (but excluding silos and preheater tower) are generally directly founded maximum 3.0 m below final ground level on soil with a minimum allowable bearing capacity of 500 kN/ m2. All silos and the preheater tower are generally directly founded maximum 3.0 m below final ground level on soil with a minimum allowable bearing capacity of 700 kN/m2.

e. For the silos and the preheater the allowable bearing capacity can be raised with 25 % in connection with earthquake- and wind loads.

- No ground water or problems with water carrying layers will be encountered at the depth to be worked in, corresponding to that the water table is minimum 1.0 m below the lowest point of any given foundation or basement.

- The soil is not aggressive so special treatment of concrete substructures is not required nor use of special cement for sub-structure parts.

- The soil is not prone to neither swelling (cotton soil) nor settlement due to liquefaction.

- The soil is assumed not to develop settlements of a magnitude nor form, which will cause problems to neither structures nor equipment.

The design of foundations will be made based on the detailed soil investigation report and foundation recommendations included therein, when this will be available.

1.1.7 Loads from nature

Wind load:

The wind load allowed for in the calculation of the budget quantities for the present Proposal is according to “BS 6399, Part 2, 1997 - Wind loadings on buildings” with the following factors:

- Basic wind speed 23 m/s as hourly mean- Characteristic design wind pressure 0.90 kN/m2 at 10 m height- Altitude factor 1.0- Direction factor 1.0- Seasonal factor 1.0- Probability factor 1.0

Seismic load:

The seismic load allowed for in the calculation of the budget quantities for the present Proposal is according to the UBC 1997 with the following factors:

- UBC Zone 2A, with soil type Sd

Snow load:

The snow load allowed for in the calculation of the budget quantities for the present Proposal is based on the following:

- For flat roofs (up to 10 º slope) 0.80 kN/m2- For sloping roofs (more than 10 º slope) 0.60 kN/m2

Dust load:

The dust load allowed for in the calculation of the budget quantities for the present Proposal is based on the following:

- For flat roofs (up to 10 º slope) 1.00 kN/m2- For sloping roofs (more than 10 º slope) 0.75 kN/m2

1.2 Building and structure types:

1.2.1 Production buildings

The production buildings with heavy equipment or other large loads at a high altitude are generally made as reinforced concrete structures up to the supporting level of the equipment (like silos, hoppers, bins, large filters, cyclones etc.) and the remaining as steel super-structures.

If the buildings have heavy loads at ground floor level only and smaller loads at higher levels than they are generally with a super-structure entirely in structural steel.

For details of split and choice of material refer to the detailed description of the buildings. Access to all major equipment and building floors, whether constructed in concrete or steel, is in general provided by means of steel stair systems. All open floors, whether constructed in concrete or steel, shall be furnished with hand railing.

1.2.2 Transport Bridges

The length informed of the bridges supporting various conveying systems (like belt conveyors, air slides, etc.) under the different departments is the horizontal length of a section connecting the various structures only, meaning that the total actual length of the conveying system may be different (the length of the equipment is given in the machinery list).

Transport bridges are made as steel bridge sections carried by lattice steel trestles supported on concrete foundations or supported on building structures, where relevant.

In general all external conveying systems transporting materials (both on ground and on bridges) are made as follows:

- Conveying systems transporting raw materials are open.- Conveying systems transporting clinkers are covered from cooler to clinker silo, but

open from clinker silo extraction system and forward to cement mill feed etc.- Cement transports by conveyor belts are closed, but all other types open.

The bridges are furnished with two walkways, 600 mm and 800 mm wide respectively. For bridges supporting conveyor belts and bucket conveyors the walkways are provided with kicker plate on the sides facing the conveyor and hand railing including kicker plate on the opposite side, where the bridges are open. Bridges supporting screw conveyors and air slides are normally with the same width of walkways but with “full floor covering” and as such with hand railing including kicker plate on the outside part edges only.

The walkways are generally made of galvanised grating.

The area below conveyor belts and bucket will be covered only where a bridge section crosses roads, otherwise this area will be left open.

In general the transfer towers between transport sections are made in concrete and are open.

1.2.3 Substations and Compressor Rooms

These buildings are made as a reinforced concrete frame structure with a flat reinforced concrete roof. The electrical rooms normally have a basement (or elevated floor, computer floor) for easier installation of cables.

The walls are concrete block walls rendered on the external side and plastered on the internal side.

1.2.4 Central Control Room and Laboratory

These two functions are placed in the same building, which often may vary in both shape and type of material. The building is constructed as a concrete frame structure with a flat reinforced concrete roof.

The walls are concrete block walls rendered on the external side and plastered on the internal side.

1.2.5 Administration building, Offices, Staff buildings etc.

No such buildings are included in the present proposal.

These buildings may vary in both shape and type of material, but they are often made as a reinforced concrete frame structure with a flat reinforced concrete roof.

The walls are concrete block walls rendered on the external side and plastered on the internal side. The internal wall faces and lower side of roof slab are painted.

1.2.6 Other Service building – like workshops, stores, garages etc.

These buildings may vary in both shape and type of material, but they are often made with a reinforced concrete frame structure with a cladded roof.

The walls are either concrete block walls rendered on the external side and plastered on the internal side or cladded.

1.3 Work groups

1.3.1 Civil Design

All civil design will be carried out by MC.

1.3.2 Site preparation

All site preparation, site levelling work and soil improvement (if any) are to be carried out by MC on a separate contract with CL prior to the start of the actual construction work.

The further detailed earthwork for structures and foundation works are to be carried out by MC for the buildings he is constructing.

1.3.3 Concrete Structures

All concrete and concrete related works will be carried out by MC.

The structural system generally applied for the design of buildings is a frame system, consisting of reinforced pad foundations / pile caps, basements (where applicable), grade beams, columns, floor beams and ground floor slabs.

The concrete structures shall in general be cast in-situ using traditional formwork. However some elevated floors and roofs may be cast on integrated formwork.

Subterranean structures, such as tunnels, basements and pits, are made in watertight concrete. The surface towards the soil shall be treated with a coating, if required. Construction joints shall be provided with water-stop.

Foundations for steel structures are considered cast in-situ.

The ground floors shall generally be made as reinforced concrete floors resting on compacted gravel fill. The top of ground floors is elevated approximately 200 mm above final ground level.

Ground floors are made in approximately 35 m2 sections separated by top-filled construction joints. Expansion joints are provided along grade beams, around columns, walls and major machine bases.

The vertical distance between slabs may be large, and the floors may contain a certain variation of the heights of the supporting beams.

The floors will include holes for passage of ducts, pipes, cables etc. and holes for anchor bolts for equipment supported directly on the slabs.

Roof slabs, and other floors exposed to weather, normally have a slope of 1:40.

Major machinery bases at ground level will be separately founded.

Bases for various smaller mechanical and electrical equipments will be made on the floor slabs. The machine bases are to be furnished with holes and/or recesses for anchor bolts to be grouted in during the erection.

Grouting below equipment and steel structures shall be made by MC.

1.3.4 Steel structures

All structural steel and related works will be carried out by MC.

The steel structures are normally designed as braced frame structures or lattice structures.

The sections used in the structures are generally open, rolled sections. However, heavy loaded and/or long beams and columns may be welded sections.

The steel structures shall be made as large prefabricated, shop-welded elements in reasonable sizes, but respecting transport restrictions to the overall dimensions. The element sizes will be planned to minimise the amount of erection connections.

The prefabricated elements shall be assembled by means of bolts. Only minor and secondary structures may be erected using site welding.

The manufacturing of steel elements includes corrosion protection. The corrosion protection shall be planned in order to minimise the application works on site.

The floors are generally covered with chequer plates. Chequer plate covered floors shall in general be part welded only. However, chequer plate covered roofs, and other chequer plate covered floors exposed to weather, shall be fully welded for sealing.

Stairs consist of steel stringers and galvanised grating treads. The stairs are provided with hand railing without kicker plate.

Permanent hand railing shall be welded to the structural steel or to embedded steel items in the concrete structures. Removable hand railing is foreseen where access for maintenance is required.

Steel supports for smaller equipment are placed on the floors. The supports shall be furnished with holes for installation of bolts to allow fixing of the machines. The legs of such supports shall generally be supported on profiles and not directly on grating or chequer plate as these are too flexible.

1.3.5 Finishing works

All finishing works will be carried out by MC.

1.3.5.1 Production Buildings (ref. buildings listed under paragraph 2.2):

Construction of external masonry walls in hollow concrete blocks, where the buildings are closed. In areas with high wind speed and/or stronger seismic activity larger wall sections may have to be filled by mortar and reinforcement placed in the some of the joints.

Construction of internal walls in hollow concrete blocks.

The walls are generally neither rendered nor plastered unless for parts that may form internal walls in electrical or compressor rooms located inside Production buildings.

Internal wall and roof faces are not given any surface treatment.

Internal floors are in general not given any surface treatment / given a floor hardener.

Concrete roof slabs shall in general be given a finish of roofing felt (minimum 2 layers) for water proofing.

Large doors, doors, windows and louvers placed in block walls made in corrosion protected steel shall be supplied and installed. A certain variation in the size of these elements shall be foreseen.

Some steel structure buildings with cladding may for the lower approx. 2-3 metres of the walls have masonry walls.

All internal finishing works, where applicable (meaning if rooms requiring such installations are shown on the proposal drawings), such as painting of concrete and masonry, flooring, tiles, false floor/ceiling, domestic water, sanitary installations, fixtures for sanitation and water, etc. are to be supplied and installed.

Construction of cladding system for buildings made in steel structures where these are closed. The standard cladding system is corrugated coated metal (steel/aluminium) sheeting mounted on light gauge sections or rolled profiles as purlins and girts. The purlins (girts) are fixed to the main steel structure by means of steel brackets, which are welded or bolted directly to the structures. All parts shall be supplied and erected by MC.

For steel structures with normal roofs such roofs are generally clad with corrugated coated steel sheeting mounted on purlins of light gauge sections fixed to steel brackets. If a roof is to function as an accessible floor with equipment then the roof will be made with chequer plates.

Translucent panels are provided in sheeting walls and roofs as appropriate.

Large doors, doors, windows and louvers placed in cladded walls are made in corrosion protected steel in various sizes. A certain variation in the sizes to these elements shall be foreseen.

1.3.5.2 Mechanical Auxiliary Buildings (ref. buildings listed under paragraph 2.3.1):

Construction of external masonry walls in hollow concrete blocks. In areas with high wind speed and/or stronger seismic activity larger wall sections may have to be filled by mortar and reinforcement placed in the some of the joints.

Construction of internal masonry walls in hollow concrete block.

The walls are generally rendered on the outside face and plastered on the inside.

Internal wall and roof faces are normally painted.

Floors are in general not given any surface treatment.

Tools, shelves, racks, furniture etc. is generally not included unless so mentioned and then only to the extent listed. No tools, shelves, racks or furniture is included in the present scope for the Service Buildings.

1.3.5.5 Installations in buildings (part not related to production only)

The scope of work to be covered, if any, is defined as follows:

- Small light and power, being electrical lighting installation, power outlet points at low voltage level for maintenance work, earthing, lightning protection etc.

- HVAC being heating in buildings (if any), forced ventilation, air-conditioning, etc. is included by MC but only for the departments where this is mentioned included in section 2.

111 Limestone crushing

Classification: Production building.

Content:

Ramp and Plateau: Ramp and platform up to hopper in earth fill material.

Crusher Basement: Concrete basement type substructure up to ground level including intake hoppers and intermediate floor. The crusher has no superstructure.

The crusher basement is provided with two intakes feeding to one crusher.

Steel access stair from ground level to lower floor level.
