    OverviewOverview

Eventually, the extents of a table or index may reach their maximum level. These extents need to bemonitored and reorganized if the values begin to approach the maximum level. Before you transfer datato a table or index, you should check to see if tables that are close to reaching their maximum number ofextents exist.

    Heres How...Heres How...

    1. To go to the SAP R/3 CCMSPerformanceMonitoring window,

    follow the path Tools

    AdministrationComputer Center

    Management System Control

    Performance Menu.

    Alternative:

    2. To view information on the

Databases tables and indexes fromthe Performance Monitoringwindow,

    follow the path DatabaseTables/Indexes.

    5. If the difference between the MaxExtents column and the Extents column is less than 100, databasereorganization is needed for the particular object(s). In this example, the differences are fine, becausethe largest Extent is 74 and the lowest MaxExtent is 300. If database reorganization is needed, use theSAPDBA to reorganize database objects. See the next chapter , Performing aReorganization.

TheMaxExtents value for the SAP tables is usually 300 or 500. If there is a table or index in

which the number of extents comes close to this value, take notice. The value may reach theMaxExtent value and cause a terminated transaction. If you find tables with problems with themaximum number of extents, we recommend that you reorganize the table or the index. If areorganization is not possible, you can increase the MaxExtents value for the table or the indextemporarily.
