Growth Drivers for Tourism
• Rise in Income and Changing Demographics: Rising affordability and increased affinity forleisure travel are driving domestic tourism in India. Domestic expenditure on tourism isexpected to rise due to the growing income of households. A number of niche offerings such asmedical tourism and eco tourism are expected to create more demand.
• Increasing Spending on Tourism: Domestic expenditure on tourism has grown significantly;the market has reached USD96.7 billion in 2015 and shall be USD332.4 billion in 2025,representing a CAGR of 6.3 per cent during 2008–15.
• Policy Support: Campaigns such as Khushboo Gujarat Ki, Incredible India, Athithi DevoBhava were launched to harness the tourism industry’s potential. 100% FDI is allowed underthe automatic route in tourism and hospitality, subject to applicable regulations and laws.Tourism and hospitality had a cumulative FDI inflows of USD8.45 billion in FY15
• Focus on Improved Infrastructure: The GoI has made concerted efforts to improve andupgrade infrastructure facilities at important tourist destinations, thereby, improvingaccessibility to these hubs. The FY16 Union Budget allocated INR14.8 billion towardinfrastructure development for destination and circuits, domestic promotion and publicityincluding hospitality, overseas promotion and publicity including market developmentassistance, computerization and information technology and creation of land bank for hotels,etc.
• Adventure: Adventure tourism is one of the most popular segments of tourism industry. widerange of adventure sports are covered under this category with specialised packages. Theactivities include mountaineering, trekking, bungee jumping, mountain biking, river rafting, androck climbing
• Camping Sites: Camping is a major source for both additional economic opportunities inremote areas as well as an instrument of conservation
• Eco Tourism: Vast variety of flora and fauna in various states is a major factor behind theirgrowing popularity as tourist destinations.
• Luxury Tourism: The luxury travel market is projected to reach USD14.7 billion in 2015 and itwas pegged to grow at 25 per cent on a year – on – year basis between 2013 and 2015

• Gujarat is one of the wealthiest wildlife destinations in the country and an ideal place for awildlife getaway in India. A rich flora and fauna makes Gujarat home to 40 species of mammalsand 425 species of birds
• The state offers opportunities to see a wide range of wildlife including the Asiatic lion, Indian wildass, endangered antelopes, variety of deer, etc.
• Gujarat is also one of India’s most important areas for birdwatchers. The state also has manyrare and endangered species of migratory birds wildlife sanctuaries. It has India’s first marinenational park.

• Eco-Tourism in Gujarat is still at a very nascent stage, but there are for sure conscious efforts tosave the Eco System and culture and heritage of the indigenous people, which is probably thelargest concentration in the world. Holiday Camping vis a vis Hotel accommodation aregathering momentum amongst the metropolis traveller.
• A plethora of holiday camping options can be made available at diverse locations in the state,where soft adventure tourism can also be packaged with holiday camping to create anacceptable eco-tourism product.

� Sasan Gir Lion Sanctuary was as a major leisure destination in Gujarat visited by tourists in2014-15 followed by Saputara registering a growth of around 18% from the previous year
