DESCRIPTION

What does “Islam” mean? The word الإسلام [Islam] is an infinitive word derived from س ل م [silm] root in if‘al pattern and used as noun and infinitive. The word silm means “release/keeping away; and to be distant from fear, doubt, trouble, lack of peace, unhappiness, fight, war, pain, suffering, material and spiritual inconveniences, weakness and decaying, and all the negativities.” This word is also the root of salim, selam, teslim, Islam etc. The word’s “Islam” form means “strengthening” [removal from problems, worries, fear, unhappiness, fights, wars, and similar negative things]. SURAH AT-TAGHABUN (THE LOSS AND GAIN)

MEDINAN PERIOD

Division: 654

1That which is in the Heavens and on the Earth exonerate Allah from all deficiencies. Only to Him belongs the dominion, all praise be upon Him; no-one else may be praised. And He is the Omnipotent.

2He is the One Who created you. And some of you are infidels; the ones who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and some of you are believers. And Allah is the Most Seeing of what you do.

3Allah created the Heavens with the Truth and formed you. –And beautiful did He make your form!- And only to Him is the final destination.

4He knows that which is in the Heavens and on the Earth, He knows that which you hide and disclose as well. Allah is the Most Knowing of the essence of your hearts.

5Has the news of the infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] not come to you before? They surely suffered the consequences of their deeds. And for them will be a painful punishment.

6This punishment is because when their messengers came to them with manifest evidence they used to say: “Will a human guide us?” and they blasphemed; consciously denied the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and turned away. Allah has shown that He is free of need. Allah is rich, He is the Praiseworthy.

(108/64; At-Taghabun/5-6)

7The infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] inaccurately believed that they would not be resurrected. Say: “Quite contrary, I swear by my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] that you shall surely be

resurrected and then you shall be informed on what you did. And it is easy for Allah”.

8Then, believe in Allah, His Messenger and the Light/the Qur’an We have revealed. Allah is aware of what you do.

9On the day when He will gather you for the Day of Gathering –on that day of mutual deception; is the day when it will be disclosed that who deceived whom- whoever believes in Allah and does good deeds, Allah will forgive his evil deeds and abide him into the gardens of Jannah [Heaven/Paradise], underneath of which rivers flow, to abide therein eternally. This is a great salvation.

10As for those who deny and disbelieve Our Ayat; they are the Companions of the Fire, where they shall abide eternally. How an evil destination it is!

11Each and every trouble that hits them come only by the knowledge of Allah. Whoever believes, Allah will guide his heart. And Allah is the Most Knowing.

12And obey Allah, obey His Messenger as well. Should you turn away, you should also know that the only duty of Our Messenger is to convey the manifest message.

13There is no god but Allah. Then, let the believers rely unto Him for their affairs.

(108/64; At-Taghabun/7-13)

14O you who have believed! Surely, among your wives and children are those who are your enemies. Therefore, avoid them. and should you forgive them and overlook their mistakes, tolerate and excuse them, you should know that Allah is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

15Indeed, your wealth and your children are tools of testing that may cause you to be thrown into the Fire. Allah is the One Who has a great reward with Him.

16Therefore, surrender under the guardianship of Allah as much as you are able to, heed and obey. Spend from your wealth for the cause of Allah for your own sake/provide sustenance first to your relatives and then others. And whoever resists the greed of his very soul; they are the successful ones.

17,18And should you loan Allah a good loan, He will multiply it for you and forgive you. And Allah is the Grateful, the Indulgent, the Most Knowing of the unseen and the unheard, the Most Exalted, the Almighty, the Most Honorable, the
