SURAH AT-TAHRIM (THE PROHIBITION)

MEDINAN PERIOD

Division: 650

1O Prophet! Why do you forbid yourself from that which Allah has made halal [permissible] to you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

2Allah has made lawful to you to release your oaths by providing ransom. And Allah is your protector; your helper, guide and guardian. And He is the Most Knowing, the Best Law-Maker.

3And when the Prophet confined a word/an event to some of his wives. And when one of his wives disclosed it and Allah disclosed it to the Prophet, the Prophet made a part of it known and disclaimed/renounced a part of it. And when he informed the respective wife about this, his wife said: “Who has informed you about it?”. Prophet said:: “The Most Knowing, the Most Acquainted has”.

4O two wives of the Prophet! It would be better for you if you should turn to Allah repenting your mistakes. –For your hearts have deviated; your faith has been spoiled, you have been in perversion.- If you cooperate against the Prophet, indeed Allah is his protector; his helper, supporter, guardian, guide. So are Gabriel/the Qur’an and the righteous among the believers. And the Ayat that are yet to be revealed will support him as well.

5If he divorces you, it is hoped that his Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will bestow upon him widow or virgin wives who are better than you, Muslim, believer, respectful, who repent and fast/circumambulates.

6,7O you who have believed! Protect yourselves and your relatives from a fire fuel of which will be humans and stones. Over that fire will be brutal forces in charge who would never oppose Allah, who do as they are instructed. O infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Do not apologize today. You shall be punished for what you did!

8O you who have believed! Turn towards Allah with a pure, unspoiled/sincere repentance. It is hoped that, on that day when your Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believe with

him, when their light will illuminate their fore and right side, when they will say: “O our Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Complete our light, forgive us for You are the Omnipotent”, Allah will forgive your evil deeds and admit you into the gardens of Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] underneath of which rivers flow.

9O Prophet! Struggle hard against the infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and the hypocrites; overpower them. Their final destination will be Jahannah [Hell]. How an evil destination it is!

(107/66; At-Tahrim/9)

10Allah has given to the infidels; those who consciously deny His Divinity and the fact that He is Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] the example of the wives of Noah and Lot. They were the despicable wives of two righteous among Our servants. Then they betrayed. Despite being prophets, their husbands could not avoid them from the wrath of Allah. And they were told: “Enter into the Fire along with the admitters!”.

11And Allah has given to the believers the example of the wife of the Pharaoh. When she said: “O my Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer]! Build me a house in Your Jannah [Heaven/Paradise], save me from the Pharaoh and his affairs. And save me from this people who do wrong; act against their own good by associating others with You!”.

12And Allah has given the example of Mary, daughter of Imran, who guarded her chastity like a castle. We informed her but a little with Our Wahy [Revelation].399

And she confirmed the words and scriptures of her Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and she was devoutly respectful.
