During the spring semester, schools within the city of Chicago and throughout the state will have the opportunity to conduct the Illinois Youth Survey with students in 8th, 10th, or 12th grade. WHAT IS THE ILLINOIS YOUTH SURVEY? The purpose of the IYS is to better understand youth attitudes and behaviors that can impact student problems and academic success. It will ask about topics including nutrition, physical activity, bullying, tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use. Students will be asked to complete a survey (with no names or ID numbers) that will be confidentially administered during one class period. The survey is completely voluntary and privacy will be strictly protected. DO I HAVE TO DO ANYTHING TO ALLOW MY CHILD TO PARTICIPATE? Approximately 1 month before the school-selected survey date, you will be sent a notification form officially informing you that the survey is being conducted at school. This form will allow you to exclude your child from participation and only needs to be returned if you do not want your child to participate. Even if you allow your child to participate, every student will also be given the choice to participate or not. WHAT IS THE SURVEY DATA USED FOR? The Illinois Youth Survey will provide your school with a local report of the combined student results which will help to determine which programs may be needed to keep students safe and healthy.

For more information, please visit the Illinois Youth Survey website at http://iys.cprd.illinois.edu

#worldkindnessday The purpose of World Kindness

Day is to highlight good deeds

because kindness is the common

thread that unites us all.

World Kindness Day 2017 was

November 13 and Stanton

students let their compassion

shine brightly. Here a just a few

examples.

6th

grade students made Christmas cards for

a 9 year old boy who is stricken with cancer.

Students in Mr. Hawkins’ class spread kindness by

making and delivering cards to staff members.

5th

grader, Brian Melton,

earned the STARRS

Behavior Award for

spreading kindness.

Members of Stanton’s National

Junior Honor Society served

breakfast at St. Bede Church with

the Knights of Columbus.

According to Illinois state law, Public Act 94-994, schools are required to notify the parents of children attending school that they may access information regarding registered sex offenders, as this information is available to the public. This law is intended to increase awareness of the Illinois Sex Offender Registry (I-SOR) and to encourage

parents to review the information that is available to them.

The Illinois Sex Offender Registry may be found on the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Information website at www.isp.state.il.us/sor/.

Additional resources may be found on the Lake County Sheriff’s website at www.co.lake.il.us/sheriff/Person/sexoffenders.asp or the McHenry County Sheriff’s www.co.mchenry.il.us/common/countydpt/Sheriff/default.asp or at www.familywatchdog.us/ShowList.asp. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stanton’s 8th grade students is scheduled for Wednesday,

January 24 at 6:00pm. Parents will receive additional

information regarding this important event directly from Grant.

students from receiving their preferred courses for the upcoming school year.

● An original birth certificate is required.

● Teachers of elective courses, activity sponsors, and athletic coaches will be

available to meet students and parents to answer any questions regarding

their area of interest.

● Students will have their picture taken for their 2018-2019 student ID.

● Students and parents will meet with the administration and counselors.

● This is not an evening for siblings.

Sick Day Guidelines: Making the Right Choice

With cold and flu season upon us, here are a few friendly reminders... To keep all children healthy, make sure they have plenty of rest and a nutritious diet. Show your child the proper way to wash their hands and to do it frequently throughout the day. A good habit to start is to have your student was their hands when they come home from school. Make sure to use soap and water and rub the hands together for at least 20 seconds. Limit touching areas such as the eyes, nose or mouth. Teach your child to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their arm. Minimize the time your child spends with others who are ill. Avoid sharing personal items such as hats, brushes, combs, and lip balms. Please keep your child home if he or she:

Has a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher

Has abdominal cramps and/or vomiting

Has a sore throat with fever (see below)

Has a persistent cough (dry or productive)

Has diarrhea (3 or more episodes in 24 hours)

Has a rash or open and draining sores

Has symptoms that prevent him or her from participating in school, such as: excessive tiredness, lack of appetite, headaches, body aches, earaches, or a severe sore throat.

If your child has recently been ill, please be aware of the following guidelines before having your child return to school, athletic or social activities:

They should feel fit for at least 24 hours.

Be fever free for at least 24 hours without medication.

Be free of vomiting and/or diarrhea for at least 24 hours.

If your child was prescribed antibiotic, they must be on the antibiotic for 24 hours. (This includes eye drops)

Rash illnesses should be assessed by a doctor and a doctor’s not should be given. Please notify the school if your child has been diagnosed with an infectious condition. Examples include, but are not limited to, strep throat, chickenpox, scarlet fever, pertussis, head lice, hand foot and mouth.
