    1. Explain what the importance of the Rhetorical Triangle as described in your handbook.The Rhetorical Triangle refers to the basis of WRITER, TOPIC AND AUDIENCE. This structure prompts

    questions such as is this TOPIC going to intrest my AUDIENCE? Does the reader already know any

    information on this subject? The Rhetorical Triangle serves as a structure so that the writer knows

    what will be appropriate to present to their intended audience.

    2. Briefly describe three different prewriting techniques.1. BRAINSTORMING, is a generalized process when one has decided on a general topic. It is a good

    way to develop ideas before in a free manner and then look at the ideas later, in order to

    develop subject content that will be bnoth appropriate and intresting to the reader

    2. SHARING DRAFTS. Many writers write and rewrite drafts starting wit a very rough draft and thenediting and revising. At some point the writer may share a draft with a peer or tutor to seek

    advice on how to improve the aspects of the paper or essay.

    3. FREEWRITING is a process where writer puts all there ideas into a completely separate totallyunorganized paper or file, so as to present all ideas to mind for a later review, by which they can

    choose what they think may best go into there essay or help to improve on existing ideas.

    3. Describe what a writer does when revising a paper.Revision can be done when a writer uses some tools in their word processer, such as track changes, or

    highlighting the length of individual sentences to check structure. A writer may also collaborate with

    other writers (for example their classmates) to get feedback as on how to impprove the final paper

    before turning it in.

    4. Describe the difference between revising and editing.

    Revision (as the word appears to imply RE-VISION) is the process on which the entire essay or

    presentation is review from a broad overall prspective, such as the quality of material and sentence

    structure of paragraphs. Editing simply refers to the correction of grammatical and puncuation errors.

    5. What is a comma splice? A fused sentence? How can these errors be repaired?A comma splice refers to the error of two independent clauses in a compound (combined) sentence

    seperayted by a comma without any coordinating conjunction (such as but , or however, moreover, etc.

    6. Define paraphrasing as applied to a research paper.A paraphrase is a restatement of a source, in the writers own words. To copy the words of a source is

    known as plagarism.

    7. In a research paper, what should be cited?Publisher, author/s, date of publication, orginizations or groups providing the information(e.g. National

    Science Foundation) Medium of publication.

    8. Explain four reasons why plagiarism is wrong.1. Plagarism is considered as an act of theft.2. Plagarism completely defaeats the purpose of the leaning process.3. Plagarism decreases the writers credibility. Writing a a fact or argument in someone elses

    words, makes the writer appear fake and ignorant.

    4. Plagarism may result in serious campus penalties including permanent expulsion. After college awriter or publisher may sue one for copyright violation, especially if the plagarist publishes the

    work themselves.

    9. Describe the purpose of signal words and phrases in a research paper.Signal words and phrases tell a reader before hand that their subject or subject matter is about to

    change or that they are qouing or still qouting other material. Examples incluce, furthermore, however,

    according to (name).

    10.Give three reasons for using a direct quote in a research paper.1. A direct qoutation, when properly used a direct qoutation can emphasize your sources

    credibility.

    2. Sometimes a source may present an important point, that the author may find difficult to putinto their own words, withouth going into to much length, or ommiting any key information in

    the qoute.

    3. Direct qoutation may give the reader a better feel or understanding for the general environmentor topic presented in the material.

    Reflective Essay - 50pts.

    Write an essay that considers the following:

    Take some time to consider your experience in ENG 101 and, using the various writings you have

    produced and the comments and marks made by your instructor as a guide, discuss what you have

    learned about academic writing, in general, and your own writing, specifically, over the course of the

    semester. Describe how the use of technology in the classroom has impacted your learning in this class.

    What do you think could have been done to enhance your experience this semester?

    In my personal belief I still have a very long way to go. This class has given me a good general

    understanding for the process of research and descriptive writing and I have indeed learned several

    valuble lessons. Such as in relevency, and what content should be left in or out. The use of technologyin the classroom has also helped me greatly, I now have several tools that help me to properly cite,

    publish and embed. but once again I need to expound on that in the future I may be an effective writer

    in the future. Overall this was a good experience and it has helped me gain a more solid grounbd in my

    writing career.
