notes:• TRAGIC Hero is person, usually
of noble birth, who suffers a catastrophe. The hero’s choices leading to the catastrophe may reflect a personal shortcoming, such as pride, called a TRAGIC Flaw.
1. Virtue of birth, nobleness or wisdom.2. Have a tragic flaw (shortcoming)3. Suffer more than he deserves. 4. Doomed from the start, but bear no
responsibility for possessing flaw5. Noble in nature, but imperfect so audience
can see themselves in him. 6. See and understand his doom, as well as the
fact that his fate was discovered by his own actions.
7. His story should arouse fear and empathy. 8. Physically or spiritually wounded by his
experiences, often resulting in his death. 9. Ideally, he should be a king or leader of men,
so that his people experience his fall with him.

Thursday: Julius CaesarOn a separate piece of paper to turn in before you leave: Imagine you’re a journalist at the time of Caesar’s murder. Write an editorial to express your opinion on Rome’s future.1. Jot down notes on the major events and issues in the play.2. List consequences Rome faces because of the battle between
the conspirators and Antony’s allies.3. Mark each consequence as desirable or undesirable and add
a note explaining why.4. As you draft , explain the consequences you foresee. Give
reasons for each opinion you express.5. Anticipate your reader’s concerns and biases. For each
opinion, add a sentence that deflects a counterargument someone might make against it.
