The Magnet program’s potential impact on students and on the

community may include

• Offering an educational option to parents – create a program so appealing – magnetic – that it will draw a diverse range of families throughout the community eager to enroll children even if it means having them attend a school in a distant neighborhood.

• Magnet Program’s have provided a useful tool / approach in keeping families in their school of origin.

• Improve teaching and learning for all – Magnet programs promote a healthy competition among their home schools.

• Quality programs based on student needs and interest – Programs are designed around student interest and engage students in the learning process, leading to high achievement. Because students disengage from learning before they drop out of school, providing focused programs that will keep them engaged in learning will keep them in school.

• Community members and programmatic partners involved in the delivery of instruction – real life connections for students and their parents –

• Create a laboratory school model –can serve as a laboratory of successful educational practices and serve as a model to all the other schools.

High School Classes Honors Weighting

Traditional Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) is

based upon a 4.0 scale (4.0 = A); weighted grading is

based upon a 5.0 scale

• All core magnet courses will be based upon a 5.0 scale.

• Dual Credit and Advanced Placement courses will be available to magnet school students as part of the regular curriculum.

Successful program outcomes –

Upon board approval we will:• Continue to obtain district administration and staff support for the program; • Have established a committee of dedicated magnet school stakeholders to

plan and facilitate the magnet implementation;• Written a curriculum that addresses state’s standards, yet delivers

instruction with a math, science and technology;• Used best practices and research based strategies for the delivery of

instruction;• Provided professional development opportunities to enhance teaching and

learning;• Created a student and staff selection criteria that is clear, consistent and is

disseminated to all parents and staff;• Involved programmatic partners by aligning their support to the delivery of

instruction;• Identified a district funding source that will allow for financial sustainability;• Developed an evaluation plan that includes data to determine the success

of the program in enhancing student achievement.
