Bio Mass – Turbine Generator Sets for Uruguay

Two fundamental choices for steam turbine exhaust:

Non Condensing-Exhaust above atmospheric pressure Pros: Steam at lower pressures can be used in food processing,

heating, air conditioning, process or for other small turbine drivers.

Cons: Since exhaust pressure is high, depending on the pressure level, it will require 2 to 3 times as much steam to make the same output.

Potentially 100% Make up water will have to be treated.

Condensing Turbine –Vacuum or sub-atmospheric Pros: Due to the higher available energy, more power will be

generated for the available steam. Cons: Requires a condenser, cooling towers and a larger turbine Only choice if no steam host available

Geared turbine generator sets are the norm for this size range to take advantage of higher speed turbine designs

If High power sales is key, a condensing turbine is best

If Process steam is more valuable, a non condensing turbine may be best
