1877 Founded as the Tokyo Mathematics Society, one of the oldest societies for natural sciences in Japan.
1884 Reformed and expanded to the Tokyo Mathematico‐Physical Society.
1919 Renamed as the Physico‐Mathematical Society of Japan, as proposed by Hantaro Nagaoka.
1945 Resolution of Dissolution to the Physico‐Mathematical Society of Japan.
1946 The Physical Society of Japan (JPS) established.“Progress of Theoretical Physics” (PTP) founded by Hideki Yukawa in Kyoto.“Journal of Physical Society of Japan” (JPSJ) founded.“BUTSURI” (Japanese) founded as a society magazine freely‐distributed to all members.
1977 Joint Centennial Celebration with the Mathematical Society of Japan independently established in 1946.
1994 “Physics Education in University” (Japanese) founded as a magazine for physics education.
2005 World Year of Physics
2012 “Progress of Theoretical and Experimental Physics” (PTEP) founded, succeeding PTP.
2014 “JPS Conference Proceedings” founded.
