Community of Schools (CoS)

On Tuesday 19th June, students in the CoS choir attended the flag raising ceremony at Airds High.

Together with students from John Warby, Briar Road and Airds High students performed the song

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" to a large audience.

Thank you to Mrs Campbell who prepared our students and led the CoS choir in a great performance.

Yarn Up

Our Stage 3 Aboriginal students attended a "Yarn Up Session" at Campbelltown TAFE with Mrs Sivell.

The students enjoyed time preparing their speech that they will be presenting in Term 3 at NSW

Parliament House.

They had an opportunity to engage in cultural activities and share tips on good public speaking.

NAIDOC Performer

Bradbury Public School were very lucky to be visited by Mr Phil and to hear all of his wonderful

stories. We even got to hear him play the didgeridoo. Teachers and students thoroughly enjoyed his

performance.

We acknowledge and pay respect to all Aboriginal Elders past and present as the Traditional custodians

of this land; we also acknowledge our young leaders who are the Elders of tomorrow and our future.

Debating

On Wednesday 20th June, Bradbury's Debating Team participated in Round 2 of the Premiers

Debating Challenge. We hosted Thomas Acres Public School and our topic was on 'That Primary

Schools should study more movies and television shows instead of just studying books'.

We won the coin toss and chose to argue against this topic. It was a close debate and both schools

brought up some excellent reasons for and against.

Bradbury were once again successful and won based on our arguments and rebuttal.

We are looking forward to Round 3 in Week 10.

Bradbury P.S. Senior Rugby League

Bradbury P.S. 16 v Bankstown P.S. 18 Loss

Bradbury P.S. 0 v Mawarra P.S. 0 Won on forfeit

Bradbury P.S. 18 v Cambridge Gardens P.S. 8 Win

Thursday 14th of June our senior rugby league team travelled out to St Marys to compete in the NSW

PSSA Classic Shield Knock Out draw. In our draw we played against Bankstown P.S. first up. It was a

close game with Bradbury just being beaten in the final minutes of the game. Quincy scored 2 tries and

Henry 1 try. Conversions kicked by Quincy and Riley. The team played well with a lot of discipline and

sportsmanship.

Bradbury were prepared to put that disappointing loss behind them and were eager to play Mawarra P.S.

Unfortunately Mawarra P.S. weren’t able to play and forfeited. Our final game saw Bradbury beat

Cambridge Gardens P.S. in a dominant performance over their rivals. Chase, Issa, Quincy and Ben scored

tries. Conversion kicked by Ben. Again Bradbury demonstrated great sportsmanship and discipline in the

way they went about playing the game.

With the loss to Bankstown P.S. we are now out of the competition. All-in-all Bradbury played strongly

all day with standout performances from everyone. It was a great team effort. Students, it was a

pleasurable day for Mrs Kershaw, myself and the parents who assisted us with transporting you out to

St Marys. You did yourselves, parents and Bradbury P.S. proud.

Thank you

Mr O’Kane

Coach

Students writing

We have been working hard on our writing across the school. It has been fantastic to see the creative,

exciting pieces of writing our students have come up with. Here is a sample:

Leon M 5/6E

In 5/6E we have been using random words to generate ideas. Our random words were - haters,

elephant, 1 legged goat

Haters has six letters. Elephant has eight letters. Legged goat has ten letters. Coincidence?

There is a pattern, plus two. Two divided by two is equal to one. The Illuminati has one eye.

Random inspirations is equal to the Illuminati confirmed.

James D K1/M

As I walked into the forest, there was a wolf. The wolf is coming for me. I am a goner!

Maddie B 4O

I couldn’t take my eyes off the spectacular show as it danced majestically across the Sydney

Opera House. Everyone took out their phones and a plethora of flashing lights added to the

chorus of dancing lights. It was awesome to witness.

Sienna B K1/M

As I sneaked into the forest, I walked at first then I saw very tall trees. I heard the crinkling

leaves and the squelching mud when my feet were stomping. I could taste the strong rain

dripping from the trees and a very strong leaf smell was coming into my mouth.

Elise 3H

The drought makes the farm a dusty wasteland. There are many old skeletons. You hear the

trees in the wind. When drought comes, you smell the dust. The hot air is in the sky and will

burn your nose as you breathe. You feel hot, grumpy and you have had enough.

Maddison Year 5

The smell of smoke, the blurriness and people screaming. The bushfire that I was stuck in was

horrifying. I was scared I wasn’t going to make it and eager at the same time just to get out.

The sizzling of the fire almost made the people’s screaming go away. I flinched as the flickering

ash fell down and wacked me in the cheek. I already had the taste of blood in my mouth and it

was getting worse.
