The European Research Area – Canada Project (ERA-Can) is a joint initiative of the European Commission and seven Canadian research organizations:

4WARD – Architecture and Design for the Future Internet4WARD will improve the ability to design inter-operable and complementary families of network architectures, drawing on the full range of technologies from fibre to wireless and sensor networks, to better support innovation within the internet. It brings together 37 partners from 16 countries.

Budget: €23.38M (30 months, 2008-10)

ARCRISK – Arctic Health Risks

ARCRISK examines the influence of climate change on contaminant spreading and transfer and the resultant risk to human populations in the Arctic and other areas of Europe. It brings together 22 partners from 12 countries.

Budget: €4.73M (54 months, 2009-13)

ENGAGE – European Network for Genetic and Genomic EpidemiologyENGAGE aims to translate data emerging from large-scale research efforts in molecular epidemiology into information of direct relevance to future advances in clinical medicine. It brings together 18 partners in 9 countries.

Budget: €16.5M (60 months, 2008-12)

Example: Canada-EU Cooperation in People (Training Network)

HEALING Network - Hedgehog-Gli signalling and its pharmacological modulation for regenerative medicine (Stem Cell Research).

The network includes leading academic institutions and companies in the molecular biology, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. It has nine full training partners and additional associated partners.

Example: Canada-EU Cooperation in People (International Fellowship)

ECOFUN – Analysis of biodiversity changes on marine ecosystems

ECOFUN aims to quantify how the structure of marine food-webs has changed due to biodiversity changes and develop an understanding of how these changes have impacted ecosystem functioning. It allows Dr. Isabel Palomera Laforga to conduct research at Dalhousie University.

Budget: €212,125 (36 months, 2009-11)
