• Kinematics– Kinematics is the branch of mechanics that describes

the motion of objects without necessarily discussing what causes the motion.

– 1-Dimensional Kinematics (or 1 - Dimensional motion) refers to motion in a straight line.

• Distance– The total length of the path traveled by an object is

called distance.– “How far have you walked?” is a typical distance

question.– The SI unit of distance is the meter (m).
