Cleaning: Remove all instruments from instrument case and use the screw forceps for picking

up any screw or plates, do not handle with hands, as oils from the skin can leave a film.

Disassemble all cannulated instruments, and open fully any instrument with joints. Flush, brush and flush all cannulated instruments. Brush all used drill bits and taps with either a bristle brush or wire brush. Ultrasonic instruments. Flush with clean water any cannulated instruments. Automated washer disinfector (as per manufacturer’s instructions) Check containers for the presence of blood in the containers Instrument containers can be cleaned either by automated washer disinfector or

instrument containers can also be washed manually and rinsed with hot water

Plates

Screw/plates that have been implanted into a patient or in contact with blood or body fluids are not to be reused.

Manually wash over screw & plate caddy with detergent/water and lint free cloth, being careful not to dislodge any screws or plates.

Clean any recesses with a bristle brush. Used or dirty screws/plates should not be put back into the caddy’s. Ensure all screw/plates and caddy’s are rinsed in hot water very well. Cover with a lint free cloth to contain aerosols and blow gently with compressed

medical air to remove any water pools in the screw heads or caddy’s. Dry in dryer. Inspect well for debris.
