THE ABOVE ARE OUR CLASSROOM
NORMS UNTIL WE PULL OUT OUR
WORKING AGREEMENTS.
Multiplication time
Determined groups with postcards or deck of cards?
Determine partners: two oldest, two youngest
Oldest member gets base ten blocks when prompted, youngest member gets blank paper, graph paper and locates markers and dice at their table
Multiplication time
Groups will follow Mrs. Schlechter’s example for: single digit _________, and double digit ___________
Multiplication time
Build arrays for the single digit numbers created by the interactive dice!
Roll the Smartboard dice!
two dice.notebook
Mrs. Schlechter show how to do a double digit array! http://
www.tech4mathed.com/MAT156/topics%20test%202/twodigitmultiplication.htm
Multiplication time Partners will roll dice to
determine each two digit number in their expression… equation
Expression written at top of paper
BUILD the expression with your body instead of on the table (why?)
ILLUSTRATE the expression on your paper under the numerical expression you wrote
Multiplication time VERBALIZE out loud how you
solved your problem and found the product
Explain where you SYMBOLIZE and use numbers to represent how you found your solution on your paper.
Note: you will “punch” your papers and place it in your math binder. Do we need to discuss S.A.N.D. really quick?
Multiplication time
Repeat taking turns building, illustrating, verbalizing, and symbolizing the two numbers you create with the dice and determine their product!
8th Grade Conjecture
Do same digit doubles make a pattern every time when multiplying?
Example: 33 * 55
Multiplication time: take it to the “area model strategy”
Watch Mrs. Schlechter share how other students have SYMBOLIZED their strategy for finding the product in multi-digit multiplication.
Remember AB Partners?
VOCABULARY ACTIVITY
AB PYRAMID or AB Partners GAME:
Find a partner from a different table… let’s make peanut butter and jelly.
(One partner faces the board, the other faces the back wall)
Review rules for AB Partners!

What is important to know or notice about the base ten number system? Practice recording what we are saying in class!
Your Take Out
Mrs. Schlechter has something for “take out”... from your classroom!

Did you get your “Welcome to Camp Math-a-lot!”?
Hopefully your eyeballs do not feel like the ones on this page.
Did you read through the mathography activity? Let’s get ‘er done!
Thank you for camping with me in math today!
Thank you!
If extra time, introduce card game: two blind factors with an all-seeing product!
What percent are roosters?
Welcome as we figure out the rooster problem!

Display working agreements Discuss/review our working agreements.
What are the four categories that we work with for our classroom norms?
We were given two ears for a reason.
It is important for all to have a chance to speak.
Trash Talk
Jot down on a slip of paper the most important “Listening” component.
