The walk of Hondojón offers the visitor of the Los Collados del Asón Natural Park the possibility to observe a great part of the environmental, geomorphological and landscape values of this protected natural space. The karst and glaciar geomorphology, the foresty formations of Monte Llusías, Busturejo or Sierra de Helguera, the lines of farming and human landscapes associated to the cabins of Brenarromán or Ojón are, without a doubt, the features that stand out along the route. Geomorphology in this itinerary shows a very varied compendium of shapes. Among the ones of karst origins, the poljé of Brenavinto, an oval shaped, closed, endorheic morphology, generated by the dissolution of limestone which gives way to a pasturing area in which the run-off water is directed through draining canals towards the hypogeal circulation. The wide limestone pavement at the summit of the Sierra de la Cabaña del Pozo, half way down the route, has the same karst origins, where there are mainly rugged, irregular shapes, and cracks, canal holes and incisions in the bare rock, generating unusual shapes in profile. Among the glaciar morphologies it is worth mentioning the fossil-abrasion platform at the source of the Asón, further on the recessional moraines in the glaciar de Bustalveinte and finally the small Ojón valley, with a spectacular and neat alpine cirque, one of the most recognisable scenes of the Park. During the descent, it is interesting to see the front moraine of the pairing Bustalveinte-Hondojón in Los Collados del Asón. Beech and birch forests give colour to this side of the Park where livestock pastures, river bank forests and dry heaths make up the vegetation.
