But just what lies behind the success of Hull-based Blenkin Products Ltd? Could it be the great value prices it offers on windows, doors and conservatories? Or the professionalism of its team of skilled staff, who always ensure customers go away delighted with their finished product? Whatever the reason, Blenkin Products has consistently proved it is one of the best. “We have more than 1,000 customers in the modular building industry, in the UPVC installation industry and building sectors – supplying anything that is plastic,” says Paul Knight, managing director of the family-run firm. “We also supply to the general public and this means our windows and doors have been fitted in schools, hospitals, public houses, shipping ports, offices and hundreds of homes across the UK. “In each case, we seek to build a long-term relationship with the customer based on trust, reliability and support. “The majority of our customers have been giving the company very appreciated repeat business for many years.” Named after Blenkin Street in east Hull, where it was based before moving to its current home in Plane Street, west Hull, it originally employed four staff – now, it’s close to 40. Founded in 1964, Blenkin Products Ltd was once primarily a small-scale distributor of plastic products for the building and holiday homes industries. It was customer demand over the years that led the business to open its own UPVC man- ufacturing division, supplying fascias, soffits, rainwater products and a range of home plastics to trade and the public. Alongside a glass production plant, this pro- gression and variety led Blenkin Products Ltd to the position it is in today – one of the largest stockers and suppliers of its products in the UK, supplying more than 700 windows, 100 doors and 15 conservatories each week. It is truly a one-stop shop for customers, providing an array of products for a variety of clients, whether they be major blue chip firms in their own right or individual members of the public. “We employ close to 40 staff and they are each highly skilled and trained in what they do,” adds Paul. “This means they are knowledgeable and available anytime to give information on any of our thousands of products. “We are happy for customers to call us or pop in and ask questions. We can provide specialist advice gathered from almost 50 years in the industry and such is invaluable. We can also Your one-stop shop for anything plastic Advertisement Feature At the heart of local trade make recommendations on the application of our products.” However, despite its undoubted success over the years, Blenkin Products Ltd is not content to rest on its laurels. A turnover in excess of £3.5 million last year – it’s best to date and achieved in very tough trading conditions – is projected to rise to £5 million in 2011, while money has been invested in the firm with a view to taking the manufacturer into the European market. “We recently invested more than £250,000 on automated machinery,” says Paul, whose brother Gary is also a director. “This investment was needed to increase productivity and better serve our existing cus- tomers, and enabling us to secure and service larger orders. “While we are never neglectful and always appreciative of our UK customer base, we are planning to expand into working with continental manufacturers. The injection of investment is likely to achieve serious results in encouraging these people to work with us and use our products overseas. “A leading consultancy company is also work- ing with us to restructure the business from top to bottom, with a view to securing further public sector contracts in the future. “There’s been no more exciting time to be at this company than now.” For more information on Blenkin Products Ltd, call 01482 565654 or visit www.blenkin- products.co.uk SKILLED TEAM: Blenkin Products managing directors Paul, left, and Gary Knight with staff.
