Botanical Realism: Art Informs Science Entries Due July 31Show Dates: August 27 - November 2, 2008 Location: The Wildlife Experience, 10035 South Peoria St., Parker, CO 80134
www.thewildlifeexperience.org
The Wildlife Experience (TWE) has invited the RMSBA to exhibit our botanical artwork at their facility to coincide with a nationally
touring oral art exhibit, Blossom, the Art of Flowers http://www.susankblackfoundation.org/blossom.htm. This juried exhibit
received entries from 970 artists from 14 countries. Our exhibit, Botanical Realism provides RMSBA with an opportunity to
educate the public about the genre of botanical art and illustration and how it differs from oral art. Our theme emphasizes thecombination of art and science that distinguishes botanical art and illustration. Whether you consider your work illustration or
art, bring your nest work to this exhibit to illustrate what botanical artists do best.
Eligibility: RMSBA members with 2008 dues paid.
Theme:Botanical Realism, Art informs Science
Botanical art and illustration requires close scientic observation and realistic documentation. Artists combine the demands for botanical accuracy
with artistic and technical skills to produce artwork that is both scientically illustrative and artistically appealing.
Prizes: RMSBA will provide a Curators Choice Award of $100 which will be presented to the artwork chosen as best illustrating the exhibits
theme. We are honored to have The Wildlife Experience Executive Director, Richard Smartt, Ph.D. and Exhibits Manager, Connie Mohrman
selecting the award winning piece.
Eligible Submissions: Artwork produced in the past 3 years which has not be previously exhibited at this venue. Space is limited, so we are limiting
artworks to those less than 30 inches in width (framed). All artwork must be framed and securely wired for framing. No sawtooth hangers.
Media: Two-dimensional original artwork of botanical subjects. No prints or print derivatives. Any natural elements or environment included in the
painting should be site specic. No props, man-made objects or non-botanical elements allowed.
Labeling: All work that is labeled must follow standard botanical labeling format. Any picture which is labeled incorrectly or which containsmisspelling will not be allowed in the exhibit.
Gallery Information: The exhibit will be located in Habitat Hallway which gets lots of trafc en route to the caf and theater. There is abundant
track lighting, a metal barricade, and security camera surveillance in the area. We will also have two display cases to display tools, process and
products of botanical art. Contact Carol if you are interested in working on these displays.
Sales: The Wildlife Experience will not put prices on gallery labels or handle any sales. RMSBA will handle sales made at the opening reception.
RMSBA will post a price list and artist contact information on our web site during the exhibit so that artists can be contacted by interested buyers.
Any works sold must hang for the duration of the exhibit.
ReceptionDate: There will be a private reception for our members and guests will free admission to TWE and the Blossom show. Date to bedetermined. Otherwise there is a daily admission fee to The Wildlife Experience.
Delivery and Pickup: Dates to be determined. All artwork must be delivered in a reusable closed box or protective envelope (like bubble or foam
wrap). Because TWE staff will be unpacking and repacking you artwork, it needs to come in an easily reusable package.
Fees: Members may enter one or two original pieces for $25.00. Make your check payable to RMSBA and mail with your registration form to Carol
Till, 3665 Estes Street, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
Registration Deadline: July 31, 2008.
