Anathea RuysHead of Fuse Omnicom Media Group Asia Pacific

Anathea has been working in the communications industry for over 20 years. She started as the editor of leading woman’s magazine New Idea in both New Zealand and Australia before becoming Group Publisher for parent company Pacific Magazines.Following that Anathea launched one of New Zealand’s largest activation / content agencies, Spark Activate, which she ran for 10 years working with companies as diverse as Unilever, Chevron, Vodafone and Virgin. During her time in New Zealand, Anathea also established OMD’s content division Fuse.

Following a return to her home of Melbourne, Anathea was appointed Managing Director of advertising agency, CHE (part of the BBDO network). During her tenure CHE won the advertising contract for The Salvation Army and Anathea took a position on their Media and Marketing Committee advising the charity on its communications strategy – a position she held for over three years.

Following CHE Anathea was Managing Director of Mindshare’s Melbourne operation for two and a half years, during which time the agency won NAB, Origin Energy and Nike.

Alfian Abu TalibCEO, TM Info-Media Sdn Bhd

Alfian Abu Talib, 40, is currently the CEO of TM Info-Media Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia (TM) and has been in the position since October 2011. Under his leadership, the Company is aggressively revitalizing its core product, Yellow Pages, with a newly refreshed image, improving the business operations, as well as introducing new services to meet the current market demand. Alfian started his career in 1998 as a Marketing Engineer for Exxon Chemical Ltd. Subsequently, he pursued a similar career with Commerce Dot Com Sdn Bhd in the implementation of the Malaysian Government’s e-procurement system. In 2005 he joined a local Malaysian engineering SME outfit; Aerosystems Tactical Sdn Bhd, and head its business development division.

Alfian was the Assistant General Manager for Business Strategy SME, TM, in year 2009 and quickly rose within the ranks to become the General Manager for Business Strategy Channel Program Management of the same division in 2010. He was instrumental in the introduction of the “Office in the Box”, an award-winning broadband & telephony product from TM designed to help SMEs.

He holds a Master’s in Marketing Management from New York University and a Bachelor’s in Electronics Engineering from King’s College, London. He has 17 years’ experience in strategy, market planning and operational improvements, with a special understanding of the SME segment.

Michel de RijkCEO, Asia Pacific of Xaxis

Michel is responsible for Xaxis strategy and operations throughout the region, our fastest growing, including account management, trading, publisher relations and partnerships. Prior to his previous role as Managing Director of Xaxis, APAC, Michel served as Vice President for technology company EyeWonder in Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Dubai UAE as well as Singapore, and successfully launched their operations in the Asia-Pacific, Benelux and Middle East regions.

During his 4 years with EyeWonder, Michel served in several roles throughout those regions and introduced the first ad-view-time metrics to gain insights into the actual visibility of an ad. This development initiated discussions between publishers and agencies to define the true value of an ad impression.

Since joining Xaxis in 2012, Michel has successfully launched Xaxis operations in a total of 13 markets in Asia Pacific. Also playing a key role during the merger with 24/7 Media early 2014, Michel now manages a strong team of 200 employees across the region.

Neil Stewart Head of Agency - APAC, Facebook

A twenty-five year Marketing and Advertising leader, with experience in change management and delivering results, Neil joined Facebook in February 2015, to lead the Agency team in the region.

At Facebook, he is helping advertising, media and digital agencies to better understand and use the power of Facebook, Instagram and other properties for their clients’ brands.

He previously headed Maxus APAC for 5 years, where the business grew three-fold, from a small handful of conflict shops and stand alone offices, to a Top 10 network.

Neil has over ten years of creative agency experience running technology, FMCG, IT and Telco clients across the APAC region.

And over 10 years of Marketing and Product management roles at Motorola, Compaq and FMCG categories in Australia and across SEA, India, MENAT region.

In 2006 Neil was awarded Client Marketer of the Year by Media Magazine. He was also a star speaker at Goafiest 2015 recently.

Stuart leads the worldwide content strategy and influencer collaboration programs for billion dollar prestige brand SK-II.

Prior to this, he worked in Marketing for Procter & Gamble (P&G) for over a decade, working in healthcare and then beauty for various markets across US and Asia. Prior to that, he was a creative director at a local agency in Melbourne (his home town).

Stuart is a passionate champion of digital storytelling and collaboration, with over 15 years of experience at the cutting edge of digital marketing. He has been recognized by Marketing Magazine’s Excellence in Marketing and PR Awards multiple times for his work on content and blogger collaboration and is a guest speaker at National University of Singapore and Google.

Bala PomalehCEO, Carat Malaysia

Bala has been in advertising since 1991, starting off as a Media Research Assistant, and worked across a select few agency groups since then. He joined Aegis Media with Carat in 2006, but was soon offered the opportunity to lead Aegis Media sister company Posterscope Malaysia, to becoming the top OOH specialist in the country.

In 2012 he came back to Carat as CEO. He’s ambition for the team now is to live the promise of Redefining Media and be known as an agency with a strong strategic edge.

He has been in the industry for 22 years and won numerous awards including the MSA and Aegis Media Awards.

As COO of Astro Malaysia, Henry is in charge of all content and marketing for the group. Astro TV has over 170 content channels and 68 homegrown Astro-branded channels, Malaysia’s #1 radio operator with 9 leading FM stations and a publication business with 14 print and digital magazines. All of this reaches out to over 4 million households, 16 million viewers, 13 million listeners and over 6 million readers.

In his time at Astro, the business has seen unprecedented double-growth, both in new subscribers and ARPU (average revenue per user). Prior to Astro, Henry was CEO of Mindshare Malaysia and CEO of GroupM, Malaysia & Singapore.

Ben MahmudHead of Retail Marketing, Malaysia Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd

Ben joined Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd in 1995 as a Non-Fuel Retail (NFR) Engineer and subsequently worked in a number of roles in Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia, before he repatriated in 2007. Ben took on the role of the Cluster NFR Manager (Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong & Brunei) end-2010 and led a team of professional category managers driving the growth agenda for the NFR business.

Ben was appointed the Head of Retail Marketing for Malaysia effective 1 January 2015.

Since his tenure in the NFR Manager role, Ben has successfully led the transformation of the Shell Malaysia NFR business placing the business in the organization limelight. With the new robust business models, He has also shaped the organization to reinforce this growth agenda by investing in his team capability to realize the Shell NFR vision.

Adam Wee AbdullahGroup Chief Marketing Officer, CIMB

Adam is currently Group CMO for CIMB Group, one of the largest Asian investment banks and one of the world’s largest Islamic banks. His remit includes consumer banking, commercial banking, wholesale banking, Islamic banking and asset management products and services.

He has also been Group CMO for the Maybank Group since 2011 – the only regional financial services group operating in all 10 South East Asia countries with a brand value RM10.96 billion. He was awarded Marketer Of The Year at the Putra Brand Icon Awards in 2013.

Prior to Maybank Adam was Chief Marketing Officer at Sunrise Berhad for a year, Director of Brand Management at Astro for five years and also had stints at ad agencies BBD (3 years) and Bates (3 years).

Adam was awarded Top 100 Most Talented Marketing Leaders 2014 by World Marketing Congress 2014, and endorsed by CMO Council Asia and the Asian Confederation of Business.

Neal worked on clients for most industries to include FMCG, F&B, Retail, Petroleum, Pharmaceuticals, Insurance, Banking and Finance, Telecommunication, E-Commerce, Automotive, Industrial Products, Institutions, Airlines, Conglomerates, and Government.

Wong Pi YeeManaging Director Starcom MediaVest Group Malaysia

Pi Yee Managing Director of Starcom MediaVest Group and Optimedia Malaysia. Her expertise and outstanding understanding of consumer motivation was recognized and she is currently one of the three business unit heads at VivaKi Malaysia. Her leadership and management of teams complement VivaKi’s continuous efforts Human Experience planning.

She amassed 18 years worth media and brand marketing experience and 14 years was invested in VivaKi Malaysia. During her appointment as General Manager of MediaVest Worldwide for Malaysia, her acumen and specialization in new business and growth has been instrumental in retaining and managing several key clients including Media Prima, Acer, Hong Leong Bank and Pemandu. Given her honed skills and expertise, she was promoted as Managing Director in both MediaVest and Optimedia Malaysia year 2019 and is currently responsible for about 87 media specialists.
