These free lessons are an important part of the Health and Phys Ed program. The cost of $35 covers transport and pool entry. Students should wear their RED school shirts Monday to Thursday and we encourage the wearing of Faction shirts on Fridays. School hats may also be worn on the faction side every Friday. Dear parents, guardians and carers, Only one week to go until swimming lessons start, and the weather looks like being nice and warm. These free lessons are an important part of the Health and Phys Ed program. The cost of $35 covers transport and pool entry. It is fortunate that this year, all students from PP to Year 6 can have their swimming lessons in the same two-week block, thus reducing the disruption to school routines. Hello everyone,

The term seems to be flying by - it is already Week 5! Today our students were

going to be attending the beach carnival on the Rockingham Foreshore but

unfortunately due to the inclement weather we had to postpone. We are hoping

to re-schedule but have yet to set the date. Next Friday MAG 3, 4 and 5 students

will be going to the ‘Sculptures by the Sea’ exhibition at Cottesloe Beach. We will

include some photos from both events in the next newsletter.

The date for the Year 6 camp is 14th November. This will be a 3 night, 4 day camp.

Please mark this date on your calendar.

Also a reminder to return the parent survey regarding the canteen if you are yet to

do so. Ms Tufilli - ESC Associate Principal

Monday 6th March is a PUBLIC

HOLIDAY. Students return to school on Tuesday 7th March.

Room 25's assembly item was called The Rainbow People and it was about understanding

and acceptance of people regardless of their colour or culture. In our play, Green Girl and

Blue Boy realised that they were both the same inside despite growing up in different areas

and became best friends. In years to come they raised a family of their own who became

known as The Rainbow People and everyone was accepted no matter whether they were

blue, green, yellow, purple or red.

Bedwetting

Bedwetting, or nocturnal enuresis, is very common in children. Bedwetting has nothing to do with dreaming, and children who wet the bed are not “just being lazy”.

If your child wets the bed, there are a number of things you can do to help, such as using a waterproof mattress cover and establishing a before-bed toilet routine. It is not helpful to punish children who wet the bed. Fluids should not be restricted, even before bedtime. Sugary or caffeinated drinks should be avoided.

If your child is still wetting the bed after five and a half years of age, seek help through a referral by your local doctor. A bedwetting alarm is an effective and safe method of treatment available for nocturnal enuresis and may be appropriate for your child.

Contact your local Community Health Centre, , , , Kwinana Community Health

on 0894192266 for more information.

Smoothie Bike Visits Breakfast Club - Thursday 24th February The students enjoyed making their own smoothies by riding the Smoothie Bike.

Head lice

Head lice are tiny insect parasites that live on your head and feed on your scalp. Head lice are spread by head-to-head contact with another person who has head lice. This kind of contact includes doing group work, playing, or hugging. Tips for preventing head lice: • Check your child’s hair regularly for head lice and eggs (‘nits’). Use a metal fine tooth ‘nit’ comb and plenty of hair conditioner applied to the dry hair, to make the task easier and more effective. To help children sit still for this, offer distracting activities, e.g. play a favourite video, provide games, iPad apps, offer a head massage.

• Tie long hair back. Braid long hair and/or put it up if possible.

• Consider applying hair gel or mousse. These do not prevent or repel lice but may help to keep stray hair strands from contact with other heads.

• Avoid sharing combs or brushes. • Remind your child to avoid head-to-head contact with other children, e.g. when working at the computer with others, or when playing, or hugging.

If your child has head lice please notify the teacher. For further info visit: http://healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/F_I/Head-lice
