SECTION 02585 - TRAFFIC SIGNS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

This Section covers providing traffic control signs and post assemblies as shown on theConstruction Drawings and specified herein, including accessories required to complete theWORK acceptable to Company Representative.

1.02 Reference Codes and Standards: Comply with applicable SAUDI ARAMCO Engineeringand Drafting Standards and Municipals Codes and Standards.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 REFLECTIVE SHEETING

High intensity grade sheeting shall be used for lettering and symbols and engineering gradefor sign backgrounds. Sheeting may be applied by vacuum applicators or by silk screenmethod. Sheeting shall cover the whole area of the sign plate, and the edge shall besealed. The surface shall be smooth and free from any blemish.

2.02 Aluminum Plates

Plates shall be 3 mm thick and smooth at all edges. Prior to application of reflectivesheeting, the sign plate shall be wax free, cleaned by means of vapor or by alkalineimmersion and etched by scrubbing with abrasive cleaner. The plate shall be rinsedthoroughly and dried with hot air before applying the sheets. Plates shall be fixed at anangle of 3 degrees as shown on the Construction Drawings in favor of the ongoing driver.

2.03 POSTS AND ACCESSORIES

Posts shall be galvanized steel pipes with 62 mm internal diameter and 75 mm externaldiameter. Bolts and nuts shall be 10 mm diameter galvanized. The heads shall be flushedwith the sign and covered with reflective sheet. Rubber washers shall not get dry and brittlewith age. Caps over pipes may be of plastic or aluminum, well fitted and glued to preventtheir removal.

2.04 PAINTING

Back face of signs shall be painted with one prime coat and two finish coats of high quality

dull yellow paint. See Section-09900, Painting.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION

A. Installation of traffic signs shall be performed as shown on the Drawing.

B. All signs shall be mounted inclined at an angle of about 3 degrees towards the roadtraffic they are intended to serve.

C. Pipe supports shall be embedded in concrete footing. True and plumb with 10 mmdiameter steel cross bars through each vertical pipe for anchorage.

D. Concrete shall be in accordance with Section-03300, Cast-In-Place after settingthe post.
