PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION
This Section covers providing the WORK required to apply painted traffic markings asshown on the Construction Drawings and specified herein, and as required to completethe WORK acceptable to Company Representative.
1.02 Reference Codes and Standards: Comply with applicable SAUDI ARAMCO Engineeringand Drafting Standards, Municipals and Codes and Standards as specified herein.
PART 2 - MATERIALS
2.01 SPRAY PLASTIC MATERIAL
A. Spray plastic material shall consist of a light-colored aggregate, pigment andextender bound together with a thermoplastic resin, plasticised as necessary. The composition of the materials as laid, that is including the spray on glassbeads, shall be according to AASHTO Designation M-249 with modification forthe white 20-2.0 for the binder and 52 maximum for the calcium carbonate andinert fillers (that include the aggregates).
B. The 20% glass bead is to be 10% pre-mixed and the other 10% is to be appliedby pressure application.
C. The proportioning of the various ingredients shall be such that the final product, when in molten state can be sprayed readily onto the road surface to give aneven line of good definition.
2.02 AGGREGATE
The aggregate shall consist of white silica sand, crushed calcite, calcined flint or quartz.
2.03 GLASS BEADS
Glass beads shall be free from air inclusions. Refractive index 1.5 minimum and spherespercent 90 minimum.

Not less than 90% of the glass beads shall be transparent glass, reasonablyspherical and free from flaws. Glass beads shall be in accordance with AASHTODesignation M-247, except as modified below.
2.04 PIGMENT EXTENDER
The extender shall be calcium carbonate prepared from natural chalk. The total contentof pigment and extender shall be between 18 and 22%.
2.05 BINDER
The binder shall be based predominantly on synthetic hydrocarbon resins plasticisedwith mineral oil. The viscosity and wetting properties of the molten binder at the sprayingtemperature will be such as to give a composition of satisfactory spraying properties.
2.06 PROPERTIES
Unless otherwise specified herein, all tests shall be in accordance with the applicable
ASSHTO Designation M-247. Spray plastic shall have an open flash point exceeding235 degrees C.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 GENERAL
Application shall be by self-propelled mobile sprayer, or template. The road surface shallbe dry and free from loose mud and other extraneous matter. The drying time shall notbe more than 10 minutes, in the laboratory test. The spray plastic shall be used attemperatures between 200 - 220 degrees C.
3.02 RATE OF APPLICATION
Spray plastic shall be applied in intermittent or continuous lines or arrows, etc. ofthickness not less than 1.5 mm excluding glass beads referred to below.

3.03 FINISH
The finished lines shall be free from raggedness on sides and ends and be in true planewith the general alignment of the street. The upper surface of the lines shall be level, uniform and free from streaks or cracks.
