DIVISION 2 - SITE WORK

SECTION 02466 - FIRE HYDRANT ASSEMBLIES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

This Section covers providing fire hydrant assemblies at location as shown on theConstruction Drawings and as specified herein, including accessories required andtesting the complete the WORK acceptable to Company Representative.

1.02 Reference Codes and Standards: Comply with applicable SAUDI ARAMCO Engineering& Drawing Standards, and Codes and Standards as specified herein.

1.03 SUBMITTALS: Submit three (3) copies of the following to Company Representative forapproval:

A. Shop Drawings: Complete detailing of installation.

B. Data: Manufacturers literature and datas of equipment.

C. Manuals: Operating and maintenance manuals

1.04 Product Delivery Storage And Handling

A. Delivery materials to Site in their containers or unopened packages, clearlylabeled with manufacturers name and product identification.

B. Protect all materials from damage during transit, handling, storage andinstallation.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 HYDRANT

A. Hydrant shall be of pillar type dry barrel, fire hydrants in accordance with AWWAC 502. Shoes, barrels and operating housing parts shall be manufactured of grayiron conforming to ASTM A-126 Class B or ductile iron conforming to ASTM A-395.

B. The hydrant shall be supplied with two 65mm (2-1/2") hose nozzles and one100mm (4-1/2") pumper hose nozzle. The hose and pumper nozzles shall beoriented facing the street. The 2-1/2" nozzles shall have 7-1/2 threads per inchNPT, and the 4-1/2" nozzle shall have 4-1/2 threads per inch NPT. Caps andchain shall be supplied for all three nozzles. The hydrant size shall be 4 1/2(nominal diameter of main valve opening). CONTRACTOR shall verify threadrequirements with Municipality prior to purchase. Furnish adapters to suiteconnection to local houses as required.

C. The depth of burial shall be 120 cm or as otherwise directed by CompanyRepresentative or shown on the Construction Drawings.

D. The upper and lower portions of the hydrant shall be connected with a safetyflange, allowing barrel to separate without damage on impact. Provide purposemade repair kit for reinstallation.

E. The inlet shall be sized for a 100 mm (4) pipe and flanged connection.

F. The direction of opening shall be counterclockwise.

G. Hydrants shall have shop applied finish coat as follows:

1. Exterior, above ground line - Red, Enamel

2. Interior, and exterior below ground line - Asphalt Varnish

H. Hydrants shall be of the same model as the existing fire hydrants being used bythe municipality or approved equal by the Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) inthe area.

I. Provide manufacturer's affidavit of compliance for fabrication materials, andhydrostatic test certificates for the approval of Company Representative.

2.02 GATE VALVE, BOX AND COVER

Provide as specified herein and at location shown on the Construction Drawings.

2.03 PIPES AND FITTINGS

Provide all necessary PVC pipes, fittings and flange adapters as shown on theConstruction Drawings and as required to complete the WORK.

2.04 STEEL PIPE GUARDRAILS

A. Provide steel guardrails as shown on the Construction Drawings, fabricated from100mm (4) nominal diameter steel pipe conforming to ASTM A-181, Class 60.Guardrails shall be of welded construction. Guardrails shall be sand blasted andgiven one coat of rust inhibiting primer. Finish coats shall be enamel, yellow withred stripes.

B. Provide base sockets for guardrails as shown on the Construction Drawings,fabricated from 150mm (6) diameter steel pipe of same designation with weldedon blank flanges. Base sockets shall be sand blasted and given one coat or rustinhibiting primer prior to encasement in concrete.

2.05 CONCRETE

A. Provide reinforced concrete Class A (21 MPA) to guard rail footing and valve boxcover surround as required.

B. Provide plain concrete, Class B (14 MPA) for thrust blocks and valve anchor, asrequired.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 GENERAL

A. Install hydrant assemblies located as shown on the Construction Drawings or asdirected by Company Representative. Connect hydrant to main with 160mmdiameter PVC pipe. Install gate valve with telescopic shaft, box and coverbetween hydrant and main as required. Install thrust and anchor blocks beneathvalve and hydrant, and to bends and tees.

B. Ensure hydrants are set plumb.

C. Set a drainage pit below each hydrant as shown on the Construction Drawings.Fill the pit with compacted crushed rock, around the bowl of the hydrant andanchor block, up to a level 15 cm above the drain openings. Drainage pits shallnot be connected to sewers.

D. Install guard rail base sockets in concrete foundation as shown on theConstruction Drawings. Set guard rail pits in sockets, ensure that posts areplumb and fill socket with non-shrink grout.

E. Touch up paint to hydrant and guard rail where necessary or so directed byCompany Representative. Paint used for touch up shall be compatible with shop-applied coats.

F. All hydrant assemblies shall be inspected and approved by the CompanyRepresentative before they are backfilled.

G. Test hydrant assemblies to Company Representatives satisfaction.
