Just 15 minutes’ drive from the medieval city of Girona (theairport is just 5 minutes away), close to some of the world’s bestrestaurants and within an hour’s drive of Barcelona, the recentlyopened Hotel Camiral, located in the heart of Spain’s top golfcomplex, PGA Catalunya Resort, will satisfy the discerning needsof many types of traveller. The modern-style building has beenbeautifully decorated by internationally acclaimed Lázaro Rosa-Violán who has created a progressive design statement so totallyin tune with the cutting-edge new Catalan style.

The surrounding facilities are impressive, and no doubt keengolfers will be immediately drawn to the area. However, thehotel’s own facilities will also appeal to families with one of themost child-friendly pools, a kids-club as well as a programme ofexperiences aimed at families. www.pgacatalunya.com/hotel

A classic combination of style, service andlocation at Estoril’s premier residence

A testament to understated 1930’s elegance, Palácio Estoril Hotel, Golf &Spa is located in the heart of Estoril near Lisbon, increasingly known as thePortuguese Riviera. Surrounded by manicured gardens with magnificentsea views, this sophisticated retreat offers elegant accommodationtogether with refined dining. During the winter and early spring why notplan a weekend or a longer break perhaps to enjoy some rounds on thehotel’s famous 18-hole golf course. Alternatively, the Banyan Tree Spa atthe Estoril Wellness Centre offers a range of asian-inspired treatments andcourses including the indulgent signature Banyan Tree Spa treatment.

Expect a warm and friendly welcome and attentive but unobtrusiveservice from the minute you enter Palácio Estoril. From its impressivefaçade to its traditionally styled interiors, this grown up establishmentreflects an era renowned for style and courteous hospitality. Don’t forgetto order a Dry Martini cocktail at the “Spies” Bar ...shaken, of course!

1. Left handshake - No No!Eat with your right hand only. In India, as rightacross Asia, the left hand is for wiping yourbottom, cleaning your feet and other unsavoury

functions (you also put on and take off your shoeswith your left hand), while the right hand is foreating, shaking hands and so on.

2. Visiting holy placesReligion is taken very seriously in India; it’s

important always to show due respect to religiousbuildings, shrines, images, and people at prayer. When entering a temple or mosque, remove

your shoes and leave them at the door (socks are acceptable andprotect your feet from burning-hot stone ground).

3. Don’t overdo your sightseeingBy far the most common complaint reported by first-timevisitors to India is fatigue – simply trying to do too much in toolittle time. India is vast, colourful and addictive, but haverealistic expectations about how much you can see.

3. Watch what you eatA dodgy stomach is pretty common for first-timers in India. Thatdoesn’t mean you should rule out street food, but try to stick topeeled fresh fruit and foods that have been either boiled or fried.Stay on the bottled water and avoid salads or ice.

I f you have been having thoughts about where to goto recharge your batteries, give the body a dose ofmuch needed vitamin D and most importantly, live

easy, sleep soundly and boast to your peers that thereis an idyllic corner of the Caribbean that understandsyour need for the perfect break then I think we shouldall be heading for Peter Island Resort & Spa in thedreamy British Virgin Islands!

Getting to your Caribbean bolthole can sometimes havean irksome twist but let us dispel your travelling concerns- getting to the British Virgin Islands has never been easier- there is a regular, through-ticketed flight with BA toAntigua and then onwards to Beef Island, so that you canarrive in time for dinner at Peter Island on the same dayyou leave the UK! On your return you can leave PeterIsland after one last lunch in paradise to fly to Antigua toconnect with the BA non-stop flight to London.

But enough of the rigours of international travel, whatabout the island itself! Without labouring the point thefirst observation is that Peter Island is the quintessentialluxury private island resort with beautifully decoratedrooms and villas suitable for all ages offering incredible

snorkelling in the ever warm waters, terrain that suitshiking and mountain biking, all the non-motorisedwatersports you can think of, a fully kitted gym, tennisand even a prestige yacht available for 1/2, full day, sunset and overnight cruises. For the more committedthe island also boasts a 10,0002ft spa and theopportunity to scuba dive with a former Navy Seal orSBS diver and video photographer that used to workwith Jacques Cousteau. Zut alors...

However, what you will surely remember most aboutthe island resort are the incredibly friendly staff. Forexample Jean Kelly, who has one of those memoriesthat allows her to recognise a returning guest who maynot have been to the resort in 20 years and, on sight, recognises them as long lost friends. Perhaps one ofJean’s most endearing characteristics is that she knowswhen guests are leaving and will get up early to bakethem some cookies to eat on the way home. Also, thedestination is completely safe - no hawkers looking tosell you wooden carvings! Finally, you will surely raveabout the incredible food created by Todd Howard, thedashing young Executive Chef or the amazing cocktailscreated by Captain, the head barman.

Of course, the extensive network (1,500km) of canals, rivers and lakes that skirt the entire coastlineof the province offer extensive opportunities to embark on cruises, but those seeking a moreregenerative experience will appreciate that Kerala is renowned for Ayurvedic treatment. We aredelighted to feature below some of the varied properties of CGH Earth, who have an impressiveportfolio of resorts throughout the region as well as neighbouring Pondichery and Tamil Nadu.

No visit to Sri Lanka is complete withoutstaying at this majestic hotel, built in 1864 andrecently restored back to its former glory.

Boutique Sri LankaReflecting the growing popularity of this magical destination

T his beautiful tropical island has something for everyone -palm-fringed golden beaches, cool hill stations, teaplantations, lush rainforest, wildlife, ancient cities, Buddhist

temples and colourful festivals. The cooking is good and spicy, thecost of living is relatively low, and the Sri Lankan people are friendlyand generous. Due to Its compact size it is possible to tour the countryin a matter of just a couple of weeks mixing culture with both wildlife andrelaxing beach time, and even though the country is now becoming ever more popular it isstill remarkably unspoilt.

Certainly, recent years have seen something of a controlled and sympathetic developmentof its tourism best characterised by the emergence of a fascinating collection of boutiquehotels, many owner-run by impassioned Sri Lankans as well as inspired ex-pats, who came, who saw and just fell in love with a beautiful and stress-busting environment. People likeGeorge Cooper of Kahanda Kanda, who was so smitten by the romance of his property thathe has progressively developed his holiday hideaway into a sophisticated hillside retreatideal for adults. In contrast, his great friend, Henrietta Cottam, holds court (as manageress)together with her dachshund Nigella (‘Jelly’) and a dedicated team at the endearingly familyfriendly 8-bedroom Why House. Each is ideally located for exploring nearby Galle and theregion’s sandy beaches, but they are a good reflection of how boutique Sri Lankan hotelsand villas are catering for the wide demands of a discerning but varied clientele.

Sri Lanka has been a popular destination for my clients and so I was excited tovisit 7 hotels in 14 days on the island this summer. Our tour began searchingfor leopards and sloth bears at Yala game reserve whilst staying in the new

Chena Huts. Our next stop was an Eco lodge where we saw crocodiles, elephants anda multitude of birds on a boat safari.

Relaxing at Jungle Beach, on the East Coast, gave us the chance to dive, whale watch, swim with sharks and turtles. We then headed in land to the cultural triangle visitingthe city of Polonnaruwa, the temple of Dambulla, Sigiriya, Kandy and the MinneriyaNational Park where we got very close to a large number of elephants. Finally a leisurelyride down the river on an elephant! We stayed at Ulagalla in a pool villa and cycled tobreakfast each morning. In every location we experienced fantastic hospitality, spicycuisine and lots of smiles.

This year I have also visited Club Med in Provence which is fantastic for tennis and golfbreaks plus Monte Carlo and the Verdura resort in Sicily.

Our adventure began in Seattle. Within two hours of landing,we were at the top the iconic Space Needle Centre for lunchand the best 360 degree view over Seattle. A visit to the

Chihuly Garden & Glass and Pike Place Market filled our afternoon.

The next day brought whale watching around the San Juan Islandsand as far north as Vancouver Island. We spotted Humpback whalesbut not the elusive Orcas. In the afternoon, a seaplane over the cityto take in more views – an exhilarating experience.

Our final day in Seattle included a drive through Mount RainierNational Park and a short snow-shoeing walk. We stayed two nightsat the quirky Palladian Hotel in the centre of Seattle.

We boarded our flight to Missoula, our final destination, Triple CreekRanch situated in the breath-taking Bitterroot Mountains. Beingcowboys and girls on horseback, meandering through the beautifulmountains was without a doubt the highlight of the trip. Sapphirepanning (you can keep what you find!), fly fishing, clay-shooting,archery, tennis are a few of the activities on offer at the ranch.

Accommodation ranged from one bedroom lodges to a secludedthree-bedroom lodge with its own trout pond. All lodges have theirown golf buggy transport. The food and beverage at this all-inclusive ranch was fantastic and the staff could not do enough tohelp. Triple Creek offers a true North American authentic experiencewhich I cannot recommend enough.

T his year my travels took me to Northern India encompassing the‘Golden Triangle’ of Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Ranthambore, and Udaipur.Delhi was our first stop where we stayed at the iconic Imperial Hotel

for one night only, but time enough to learn about the melting pot ofcultures, politics and religions of India’s colourful past.

There were many highlights on the trip and our visit to the Taj Mahal – themost extravagant monument ever built for love - did not disappoint. Thishad nothing to do with the fact that Prince William and Kate were visitingjust an hour before us and they too were staying at Amarvilas. Whilst notmandatory to have one’s photo taken in front of this iconic monument – Ifelt it would have been an opportunity missed !

Our next stop was Sher Bagh in Ranthambore, a Relais and Chateauxproperty with only twelve luxurious tents nestling on the borders of theNational Park. An amazing couple of days where we experienced four gamedrives and saw FIVE tigers and some cubs too. The viewings were absolutelyfantastic and our guide and driver were the best! Tigers, unlike lions wholaze around all day eating, drinking, and sleeping, prowl around with suchmajesty, athleticism and intelligence it is a wonder to behold.

After the excitement of Ranthambore we travelled onto Jaipur, the capitalof Rajasthan and known as the Pink City. Jaipur is a bustling blend of forts, palaces, teeming markets, shops and transport of every kind, from cars tocamels. We visited the Amber Fort, Rambagh Palace, The City Palace andMuseum and The Observatory. Onwards to Jodhpur and Merhrangarh Fort,a visit to one of the Bishnoi Villages before our final destination – JawaiLeopard Camp. The camp was amazing, however the leopard were elusive!

I now know why Rajasthan is known as the ‘Land of Kings’ as it is home tosome of India’s most impressive sights… my next visit will have to beSouthern India and Kerala an altogether different experience. This is merelya snapshot of my trip for further details please do not hesitate to contact me.
