Sponsora Sod tohelp clubfaceliftMayfield GAA launches plansfor massive overhaul of pitchAN AMBITIOUS plan is un-derway at Mayfield GAAcomplex.
Work has commenced on the con-struction of a sand-based grasspitch, which will enable the club toplay games on a year-round basis.The work will also involve the
complete fencing-in of the existingsite, ensuring games can be playedin a secure and safe environment.A spokesman for the club said;
“The availability of this pitch will beof great benefit to the underage sec-tion. The club also provides facilitiesto the local schools for games andother activities.”The club has launched a fund-rais-
ing drive to help pay towards the de-velopment.The club will spend €170,000 on
the development works this year.Minister for Sport Michael Ring TDrecently announced a grant of€119,000 towards the project, and the
club is hoping to benefit from anumber of other grants from withinthe GAA, as well as local authoritysports grants.The spokesman added; “Next
month we hope to have MinisterRing down to officially turn the sodon the new development.“The club itself will have to raise
€20,000. We are launching our ‘Spon-sor a Sod’ fund-raiser this week. For€10 a sponsor will own his or herown sod in the new pitch. A certific-ate will be issued and the sponsor’sname will be put on permanent dis-play in our club premises, wherefuture generations will be able toidentify the people who made theproject possible. We are looking forsupport from all our supporters, cur-rent and former players and fromanyone living in or associated withMayfield.”Sponsor forms will be available in
the club, from members, andthrough local retail outlets.
