the material in the preparatory study document in the community. There are also online tutorials that you

should study, details of which are given in this document.

    Seven written exercises

In the community the is a workbook containing seven written exercises, which you must complete. There is aseparate answer book (Word format) containing the answer sheets for you to fill in, which must be returned to

us by 17.00 (UK time) on the final day of the business game.

    Business game

The business game takes place over a 10 working day period. A chat room in the online community will allow

you to make introductions and discuss the game as you play. More details about the game are given below.

    Online assessment

You will be able to access the online assessment 4 weeks after the end of the business game. It is necessary

to pass this exam to gain a pass in CT9. More details about the assessment are given below.

    The Business game

The business game takes place over a 10 working day period. A chat room in the online community will allow

will then use the chat room to discuss the game between yourselves as you progress

Before the start of the 10 working day period you must study the player briefing for "The Way Forward"

business game and the accounting notes. You can download these from the i-coach website. See items 3

    Partic ipation in the game

    Documents you will need:

    •  Schedule – the schedule for the business game is available later in this document

    •  Decision form – this will be posted in the community when the business game starts

    •   Audi t t rai l form – this will be posted in the community when the business game starts

This is how you will partic ipate in the game:

    •  On the Friday before the start of the 10 working day period you have selected, you will be advised of

your team. You will be in a team of up to six other 'players'. If it is possible you will be placed in a

team of players within the same time zone. Your team will be competing against up to six other

    teams.

    •  You need to introduce yourself to the other players in your team by posting a short introduction to

yourself in the chat room•  Once you have all established contact with each other, you will need to agree, before the start of the

    10 working day period:

o  Who will complete the audit trail form during the game, and send it to all members of the

team. You do not need to return this form to us.

o  Who will submit the decision form to us at the end of each round of the game

    •  The game will have four rounds so there will be four decision sheets to be submitted

    •  You must communicate with each other using the chat room during each round in order to agree your

    decisions for sending to us.

The decision form must be submitted as indicated in the schedule and must confirm that all membersof the team have participated in the decisions. All dates and times are UK time. Your decision sheets

will be processed and the results uploaded to the community in accordance with the schedule. They

will only be visible to your team.

    •  When we provide the results for each round they will also be posted in the community, and again they

will only be visible to your team. The documents that you will see are:

o  your decision sheet for the next round

o  the Agenda items for the next round

o  and some comments about the results.

    •  Any team not submitting its decisions on the specified days will be disqualified and its members will

have to play the game again at the next convenient practical exam (for an additional administrationfee). You will not be able to take the online exam until you have taken part in the business game.

    Interaction between team members

We would like to clarify the arrangements that we have in place for assisting you in working together during

    the game’s decision making process.

We understand that you are working in different time zones and we expect you to work together on the

Business Game to come to solutions for participation that will work for all members of the team. Where

possible we group students together in time zones that are similar, however we cannot always guarantee to

    do this.

The agenda items and decision sheets are available for a period of time that allows for discussions over

several hours. Teams should normally be able to agree a time to meet online to discuss the agenda. Should

a team member not be able to take part at the agreed time, then they should be able to post their comments

in the chat room and the other team members should review these and acknowledge that they have been

taken into account in the main decision making process. If appropriate team members could post a document

to the community with their thoughts. The team should agree among themselves how to proceed, and how to

accommodate a member unable to meet for the discussion.

On the face to face exam, students are only given a period of 40/45 minutes to reach their decision on each

half year. Students on the online exam have a 24 hour period to allow time for all to participate in the

    discussion.

Please be considerate to the limitations of all members of the team and arrange your discussions using all the

tools available to you so that all team members can contribute to the discussions and have their views

    considered.

availability. You may take the exam as many times as necessary in order to pass it.

    •  The Registrar will be able to monitor how many times you take the exam before passing it but this will only

be used for generic management information purposes.
