Parts and Accessories Installation Instructions

To section 8: Installation overview for the high voltage wires in all cars (cars with M52/M51 engine only)

The designations of the high voltage wires for the new engine versions M47/M57 are as follows:Motor M47:K and J3Motor M57:J4 and K4 (cars with automatic gearbox) and K and J4 (cars with manual gearbox)

The positions of the high voltage wires on the new engine versions M47/M57 have been kept the same.The axle covers (1 – 4) and the underbody trim (5) are already fitted and do not have to be retrofitted.

To section 9: Overview of all cars

Cut the high voltage cable on the control module (length #1) and the high voltage wires connecting cable (length #2)to the same lengths as required for the M51 engine (manual or automatic gearbox). The wires are to be used asfollows for the new engine versions:

To section 11: To prepare the underbody trims for all cars for installation

All cars with M47/M57 engines

Hole (1*) for cars with M47 engine only.

Drill the holes (1) in the underbody trim (2) using dimensions a – h with a 5.5 mm twist drill bit.Dimensions a – e apply for both engine versions (M47 and M57)

High voltage wire ”K4” (M57 only)

Do not cut the wire to size.

High voltage wire ”J3 and J3” (M47 and M57)

Do not cut the wire to size.Proceed accordingly with wire J3 (M47).

To install high voltage wire ”K” into the car (carswith M57 engine only)

The minimum spacing between the highvoltage wire ”K” and the plastic parts on the bodymay be slightly less than 10 mm.

Cars with manual gearbox only

Secure the retaining clips (1) to the flat bracket No.32 and retaining brackets No. 7 and No. 37 withspacers (2) and hexagonal screws 5.5 x 18 mm (3).Secure retaining bracket No. 7 to the flat bracketNo. 32 using the hexagonal screw M5 x 12 mm (4)and hexagonal nut M5 (5). Place the high voltagewire ”K” into the retaining clips (1) and align it.

The figure shows the installation of the highvoltage wire ”K” with the exhaust bar removed.

Remove the hexagonal screws M8 (2) and take offthe exhaust holder (1). Place the high voltage wire”K” with the fitted holders on to the gearbox (5) andsecure the exhaust bar (1) using the hexagonalscrews M8 (2).Connect the prepared high voltage connectioncable (3) to the connector (4).

To install high voltage wire ”K” into the car (cars with M57 engine only)

Cars with automatic gearbox/Steptronik only

Secure the retaining clips (1) to the flat bracketsNo. 31 and No. 32. Undo the connection clip (4)and secure it again in the position shown. Insertthe high voltage wire ”K4” into the three retainingclips and align it.

The figure shows the installation of the highvoltage wire ”K4” with the balancing weight andexhaust bar removed..

Remove the screws (1) on the gearbox. Secure thehigh voltage wire ”K4” to the exhaust holder withthe screws (1) you have removed. Connect theprepared high voltage connection cable (4) to theconnector (3) on the high voltage wire ”K4”.

To install high voltage wire ”K” into the car (carswith M47 engine only)

The minimum spacing between the highvoltage wire ”K” and the plastic parts on the bodymay be slightly less than 10 mm.

Cars with manual gearbox only

Secure the retaining clips (1) to the angle bracketsNo. 11, No. 8 and No. 10 with spacers (2) andhexagonal screws 5.5 x 18 mm (3).Secure angle bracket No. 10 to angle bracket No.8 using the hexagonal screws M5 x 12 mm (4) asshown.Secure the high voltage wire ”K” in the retainingclips (1).Connect the prepared high voltage connectioncable (5) to the connector (6).

Hold the high voltage wire ”K” with the fittedholders No. 10 and No. 11 against the gearbox (2)and secure it with hexagonal screws M8 x 16 (1)from the installation kit. It may be necessary toadjust the wire ”K” slightly.

The figure shows the installation of the high voltage wire ”J4” in a car with an M57 engine.Proceed accordingly on cars with an M47 engine using high voltage wire ”J3”.

Secure the retaining clips (2) to the retaining bracket No. 7 with spacers (3) and hexagonal screws 5.5 x 18 mm (4).Place retaining bracket No. 7 on the trim (9) from underneath and secure it with a hexagonal screw M 5 x 12 mm (8)and hexagonal nut M5 (6).

The retaining bracket No. 1 marked with an asterisk (*) must be turned through 180° for installation incars with an M47 engine.

Secure the retaining clips (10) to the retaining brackets No. 1 with spacers (3) and hexagonal screws 5.5 x 18 mm(4). Place both retaining brackets No. 1 on the trim (9) and secure them with hexagonal screws M 5 x 12 mm (8) andhexagonal nuts M5 (6).

Secure the retaining clips (10) to the retaining bracket No. 5 with spacers (3) and hexagonal screws 5.5 x 18 mm (4).Place the retaining bracket No. 5 on the trim (9) and secure them with a hexagonal screw M 5 x 12 mm (8) andhexagonal nut M5 (6).

Clip the high voltage wire J4 or J3 into the retaining clips (2) and (10) as shown and align it.

The remainder of the installation work for the marten protection system is as described in the installationinstructions.
