CRA was retained by a gas distribution company to design their installation’s Site Protection and Monitoring Programme (SPMP) as part of their IPC permit condition. CRA designed the SPMP to demonstrate that the pollution prevention measures at the site are effective in protecting the land. The SPMP included the design of the environmental programme, consisting of surface water and groundwater monitoring, the design of the environmental monitoring infrastructure programme, the design of the environmental monitoring schedules and protocols, and the design of the information and data management and reporting programme for the site. The SPMP design was submitted to the Environment Agency (EA) within two months of the client receiving their IPC permit. In order to implement the environmental monitoring programme, groundwater monitoring wells were installed on the site. CRA conducted the supervision of the monitoring well installation. Soil and groundwater samples were collected by CRA for use as reference data to be used as comparative guidelines during the lifetime of the installation and at the time of permit surrender. CRA is currently responsible for conducting the annual groundwater monitoring and infrastructure monitoring at the site, as well as producing the yearly report to be submitted to the EA. The SPMP design and the reporting of the SPMP were produced using the IPPC H7 templates provided by the EA.
