Strengths of the Organization Reflections Make-Up & Photography is an innovative company delivering beauty services to the front door step of its’ customers. This type of company is also the first of its’ kind in Greensboro, NC. They find it the most important to provide professional, affordable, and convenient service for all women and men. We encourage a different experience and atmosphere for our customers to engage in their make-up and photography services.

Reflections Make-Up and Photography also believes that in order to maintain a loyal customer base, they must first customize a pleasant first time experience for new and incoming customers. The responsibility falls directly on the two co-owners to be welcoming and dedicated to their mission statement. Reserving days or extended time periods for their customers enables them to build lasting relationships and trust with their customers.

Creating a presence of the business, not only by word-of-mouth and social media, but also a working website that accepts appointments in addition to a phone app is one of the priorities in the making.

Challenges of OrganizationReflections Make-Up & Photography is very new and many people do not know about the business and services they provide. They are looking to have a social and physical presence in Greensboro, NC.

They are also very small with only one make-up artist and two photographers. They have had to turn down larger events due to lack of employees to staff the event. This is also hindering the expansion sue t financial means to hire additional employees and working only off of two incomes. One suggestion has been brought to the attention of the owners to do an internship.

Lastly, word-of-mouth; though sometimes effective; has not turned the profits the company anticipated. Most things have been done solely by the two owners and it has become to be a burden and furthermore a stressor. They are looking for business guidance and referrals for first time business owners for things such as logos, business cards, and an appointment setting website.

Opportunity Client Statement:Being a new and innovative business; first of its’ kind in Greensboro, NC; Reflections Make-Up and Photography is beginning to be a well-known brand. They want to continue to stay true to their mission to deliver a customized and professional service at an affordable price. When it is a client’s special time or day, we want to make sure we provide an unforgettable in-home service that is untouchable by the competition. They will accomplish this by better acknowledging their niche by providing unique relationships with their customers. Reflections Make-Up and Photography has proven to be on the rise with an increasing appointment request and income doubling in the last three months.

Though Reflections Make-Up and Photography has an astonishing foundation, their awareness and customer base is building too slowly. The staff and their customers is the more important aspect in order for business and growth to transpire. Unfortunately, with an increasing demand and lack of employees to fulfill appointments, Reflections Make-Up & Photography has met a cross road. Additionally, financial means are not supporting the expansion on two incomes solely.

An opportunity exist to expand physically, increase profits and demand and most importantly thrive in a new space that has not been done in Greensboro, NC yet. Creating awareness and being staffed to fulfilling customers request over the next year can be extremely beneficial exponentially for the company financially and personally for the two owners. This plan, when implemented will increase awareness, bring in additional clientele, and lay the foundation for growth to other locations within the next 3-5 years.

Target Public Description and Defense:

Reflections Make-up and Photography’s initial target public will be the college students of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro; especially juniors on the path to graduating the following year. UNCG college students are of various backgrounds and educational accomplishments. The graduating time is a time to cherish and keep records of to which this company can provide. These students are clearly invested in their completion of their degree and want to capture the essence of their accomplishment through photography for things such as graduation announcements. Not only will the target public be of interest, possible candidate for an internship would be additionally provided when creating awareness. Last but not least, the avenue for finding and deciding on a photographer is majorly based on recommendations and knowledge about their surrounding service providers. Targeting to a group of students who are newly acculturated into the Greensboro community of services will be convenient to access when it is brought to them and them not searching for it.

Target Public Demographics:

The target public for this plan is approximately the class of rising seniors of 2000 currently attending UNCG. This group of students will include male and females ages 20-30 working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree within the next year and a half. This public also has at least a high school diploma as well as having a various working background. This target demographic will benefit the most considering the marketing will be exclusively for graduation photography. Rising seniors will be the target public but the service will be open to all interested customers.

Target Public Psychographics:

Experiencers

Experiencers are motivated by self-expression. Young, enthusiastic, and impulsive consumers, Experiencers quickly become enthusiastic about new possibilities but are equally quick to cool. They seek variety and excitement, savoring the new, the offbeat, and the risky. Their energy finds an outlet in exercise, sports, outdoor recreation, and social activities.

Experiencers are avid consumers and spend a comparatively high proportion of their income on fashion, entertainment, and socializing. Their purchases reflect the emphasis that they place on looking good and having "cool" stuff.

http://www.strategicbusinessinsights.com/vals/ustypes/experiencers.shtml

Innovators

Innovators are successful, sophisticated, take-charge people with high self-esteem. Because they have such abundant resources, they exhibit all three primary motivations in varying degrees. They are change leaders and are the most receptive to new ideas and technologies. Innovators are very active consumers, and their purchases reflect cultivated tastes for upscale, niche products and services.

Image is important to Innovators, not as evidence of status or power but as an expression of their taste, independence, and personality. Innovators are among the established and emerging leaders in business and government, yet they continue to seek challenges. Their lives are characterized by variety. Their possessions and recreation reflect a cultivated taste for the finer things in life.

http://www.strategicbusinessinsights.com/vals/ustypes/innovators.shtml

Defense for Psychographics:

The “Experiencer” label is appropriate for the target public of Reflections Make-Up & Photography because this group of young individuals is looking for instant gratification as well as the “new” thing that popular. Experiencers are also avid spenders of their financial means on fashion and themselves. When something new comes out they are the most eager to purchase.

The “Innovators” label is appropriate for the target public of Reflections Make-Up & Photography because this group of consumers is most receptive to new ideas and technologies. Image is also an important factor to reflect their taste and personality of high self-esteem. They believe and see the value in receiving quality service.

11

Evana Rivera

Strategic Research Design:

Formal research will be conducted in the population of approximately 2500 rising juniors. Out of the 2500 students, we plan to use the sample population of 150 students. To facilitate this research we will use surveys and rewards for completing the survey. We will distribute the surveys but hand and have students fill them out immediately in order for them to qualify for the reward ($50.00 Gift Card to StarBucks Drawing). Also having contact with previous professors, we will ask permission of these professors to come speak to their classes for a brief 10 minutes and pass out the surveys as well.

The possible questions will be qualitative and quantitative. The quantitative questions will include questions such as “How long have you been living in Greensboro NC?” “Have you ever had your pictures taken professionally?” “How old are you?” “Where are you in completion of your degree: Junior/Senior/Graduate Student?” The qualitative questions will include questions such as “If you wanted professional pictures for Graduation where would you go?” “Are you interested in getting your professional photography for graduation” “Hypothetically, if you were to get your photos done, who would do your makeup? “Would you prefer it to be professionally if it came in an affordable package with pictures?”

These questions will be used to gather information about the needs of someone interested in getting photography and makeup services and the amount of awareness students have with the same services in Greensboro, NC.

Budget Information:

The budget for this plan will be $800.00.

Strategic Planning

Evana Rivera

Communication Objective:

To gain more of a stronger customer base by 30% of the 2000 junior class at the University of North Carolina At Greensboro, the company needs to focus on an informational aspect. The primary goal of this plan is to increase the awareness of our services to the UNCG junior classification. This will be accomplished in the time frame from January 2016-January 2017. Once getting awareness raised about these specific services, the next goal will be expansion. With demand of the services, the company needs to be able to provide.

By raising awareness of the company that provides graduation photography and make-up services, we can gain more college students as customers while creating a presence that this service is available in the Greensboro area. Keeping in mind the first two goals, we will then be able to entice customers to remain loyal, refer their friends, as well as spread awareness of the home-based services. Once these three goals are assessed, we can then move into expansion into a physical location as well as hiring interns.

To achieve all of these objectives the company needs to keep our mission statement at the forefront of our plan; we will be able coordinate cost effective deliverables to solve any and all beauty and photography needs. This is most important aspect to expand from considering; for college students on a budget; monetary access is minor, but they also recognize the value and need of professional services. In combining the services, clients feel the two-for-one value and peak interest in saving money. The pre-program benchmark before implementing the program is the 15 client list the company currently has. In targeting the 200 juniors (30% of 2000 juniors), the post program measurement will be the amount of those junior we gained as customers which we can assess as our percentage of increase from 15 current clients to the number after the plan is implemented.

Message:

“Professional Graduation Pictures… TOO EXPENSIVE!”

“Glam squad and session cost…EXPENSIVE!”

“Getting both at Reflections cheaper…INEXPENSIVE!”

This message appeals to the target public demographics and psychographics of juniors currently as UNCG on the path of obtaining a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in the next year. It promotes the main mission statement aspects of quality services at cheaper prices. Since Experiencers are motivated by self-expression, this group of young individuals will quickly become enthusiastic about new possibilities as well as valuing the purchased they made to specifically reflect the emphasis they place on looking good. This message also appeals to Innovators because they characterize their lives by variety and the possessions reflect a cultivated taste for the finer things in life. These terms used reflect a distinct comparison to things wanted, things needed, and the price differences that are apparent between “us” and “them”.

Spokesperson:The spokesperson elected to represent the campaign will be co-founder and owner, Evana Rivera. By the time to implement the plan, Rivera will have her B.A. in Communication Studies from UNC-Greensboro. Since the age of 18, Rivera has grown within various companies that have taught her a strict business mentality that she can incorporate into her own creation and maintenance of Reflections Makeup and Photography. Considering that she is not afraid to speak and interact with any kind of person, we think she fits the needs for the spokesperson. She is also an alumni of the target university which implies that the navigation and access to partners will be more easily obtained. Working on both ends of the spectrum; business owner and photographers; Rivera can easily adapt where needed. At the age of 24, she can also connect to the Innovators and Experiencers by investing in self-expression, new possibilities, and the taste for the finer things in life. By working closely with her co-owner, Rivera strives for innovation, professionalism, and quality for any and every one.

15

Evana Rivera

Spokes Entity:

“Professional Graduation Pictures… TOO EXPENSIVE!”

“Glam squad and session cost…EXPENSIVE!”

“Getting both at Reflections but cheaper…INEXPENSIVE!”

This spokes entity is the most appealing, unique, and catchy visual aid that appropriately fits Reflections Makeup and Photography. It promotes professional services and reasonable prices which are specifically geared to the college target public. This also connects to the target public’s demographics of women wanting photography and makeup services on a 2:3 ratio against men, as well as a 2:3 ration of men to women on the college campus. Not only does it appeal to the demographics, this also appeals to the target publics psychographics because Innovators and Experiencers both want value and new ideas to cross their path. They also are the most interested in their appearance and how presentation of themselves is expressed to others. Combining these two pieces, the entity and message, will entice people to want to know what Reflections is, what they offer and most importantly how to become a customer. This will promote the success of the business and the plan.

Communication Tactics

Event Description:The two Co-Founders of Reflections Makeup and Photography will partner with the Career Services Center to host a “Graduation Picture Perfect” event at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for a day full of fun, giveaways, mock makeup/photo sessions, and prizes. This event will take place Friday March 4, 2016 from 1:00pm until 6:00pm. Career Services and Reflections are both important pieces of the lives of graduating seniors and how they express their life after college. Career Services will work alongside the two co-founders to reserve the Cone Ballroom A & B of the Elliott University Center for the event. The space will come with chairs, tables, and lightening upon reservation. We also want the Dinning Services of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to cater the event and do only a snack bar with small bites of food like cookies, cakes, granola bars, fruit and vegetable trays as well as crackers and cheese; not full course meals; and drinks like water, coffee, tea, and apple juice. We will ask, through career services, for temporary employees to staff the event. These temporary students will preferably be seniors and from the Photography and Art department at UNCG. The two co-founders as well as the volunteers will have T-Shirts with the name of the company on the front and their name and title on the back so it will easy to distinguish who is a part of the staff and who is attending the event. This event; only promoted to the target public of graduating seniors; will give seniors a space to congregate, meet a business that provides a service they may want to take advantage of, temporary employment, fun, food, and a chance for someone to win the prize of a free photo shoot and makeup 3 hour session. We will also giveaway coupons for half off 3 hour sessions and t-shirts that say Reflections Makeup and Photography. This event should be very successful and helpful for graduating seniors.

In addition to the event having both owners; Victoria White and Evana Rivera; at 2:00pm and 4:00pm they will also give a presentation of the services they provide as well as have an on-going slideshow of examples of their current clients photos while they are not presenting. The spokes entity will be on the shirts of the staff, flyers, presentation, and the ongoing slideshow at the beginning and the end slide. This program, supplies, and the catering from dinning services will be paid for from the budget. The employees that we temporary hire will be notified of any and all information via email and a training session a week before the actual event. A press release and pitch letter will be sent to the Carolinian (the UNCG newspaper) and through the CSC to email to seniors. All attendees and temporary employees will be asked to fill out a survey about the event and information provided for an entry into the drawing for the free session. Updates will also be provided through personal social media and professional social media before, during, and after the event to get the name awareness to a wider variety of consumers.

Event Rational: The main purpose of the “Graduation, Picture Perfect” event is to create awareness of the new business in Greensboro, NC and to inform students of the services the Reflections Company provides in order to gain more clientele from the graduating seniors at UNCG (target public). This event will provide students and business professionals the opportunity to network and learn more about Reflections Makeup and Photography. This event will give Experiencers and Innovators the reflection they value on looking good and having access to "cool" stuff before anybody else as well as providing the access to something new and different.

Experiencers are motivated by self-expression. They are also young and enthusiastic, with this comes the seeking for variety and the ‘new stuff’ which will give invested energy for social activities. These individuals will benefit from the event because it is new and exciting as well as a social activity that they can bring friends or roommates to. Not only are we looking to understand and incorporate the psychographics of Experiencers, we are evaluating that of Innovators. Innovators are take-charge people with high self-esteem and the most receptive to new ideas. This niche service will peak interest from Innovators since they have a taste for the finer things in life. This event will give the owners and the attendees a chance to communicate about life plans in the next 6 months, when graduation is rapidly approaching. Networking is becoming one of the most essential aspects when a college student begins to make the final steps in their undergraduate career and this event will provide a stage for multitude of networking and gaining clientele opportunities.

Partnering with Career Services Center to host an event in the EUC of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is the ideal place and partner for this event because it is easily accessed for students on and off campus as seniors as well as the Career Center has a track record of connecting students with employment and networking opportunities that can advance them into a career or service seniors need. Reflections Makeup and Photography will be able to reach their target public and the Career Services Center will maintain a reputation of providing the needed access to services seniors and UNCG students need while attending UNCG.

20

Evana Rivera

Event Partners & Rational:

1. Career Center Services – connection with the service will provide both the contacts and the connection to the students and the space for the day of the event. Access to reservations for the Cone Ballroom A & B when we request tables and chairs will also be easier if it is a school service center connection that is helping us host the event. Career Services and Reflections Photography will complement one another for where one lacks the other takes up the slack. Providing professional services at reasonable prices is the main goal of the company and in connecting with a service free to students, this is directly reflect their mission and goals

2. UNCG Dinning Services – use of the UNCG dinning services will be more cost effective and easier accessed considering they are closer to the EUC than any other eatery; it will also be cost effective for the clean-up because they have their own staff to do such necessities. Dinning services also has an outstanding track record of amazing food so I am such they can cater to numerous people and are professional and efficient at providing eatery for an event as the such.

Greensboro, NC 27413

Dear Emily:

On Friday March 4, 2016, the Career Services Center has partnered with Reflections Makeup and Photography to host an event “Graduation, Picture Perfect” in the EUC Ballroom A & B.

The two co-founders and a hired staff hosted an event for graduating seniors to have the opportunity to connect with a local business; also started by a recent UNCG graduate; that provides photography and makeup services at reasonable prices. The event had mock sessions for students to get a chance to try out the products and how it would be if they had a real session with the company.

Many students who came to the event had the chance to mingle and enjoy snacks as they explored and congregated around the space of the event. Dinning services provided the amazing catering services and impressed everyone with their delightful treats. This event created a link between a local business and students who need, search, and want to use their services; especially graduation photos and having professional makeup for those photos.

As the Public Relations Director, I would like to invite you to conduct and interview with one or both of the co-founders Evana Rivera and Victoria White. Both founders will be able to share their experiences and thoughts as well as pictures or any other material needed. I will contact you on March 8, 2016 to touch base regarding the interview. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me with any additional questions, comments, or concerns at (336) 501-4216 or email me at [email protected].
