Pastor's Annual ReportYears ago a Hollywood movie opened with the businessman standing in front of his office window, watching people buy their morning newspapers. As he stood there and he suddenly thought to himself, “What if I could buy tomorrow’s paper today?”

The thought of being able to do this excited him beyond words. He thought of all the business opportunities that would open up to him. Then something strange happened. A shriveled up old man entered his office with tomorrow’s newspaper. He handed it to the businessman and said “I’ve decided to grant your wish.”

The rest of the movie dealt with what happened to the businessman as a result of the knowledge of the future and how it changed his life in the most remarkable and unexpected ways.

I can’t give you tomorrow’s newspaper, but I can give you something even better when it comes to your future. I can give you the magic formula for happiness. That formula is summed up in what the Pope has called for in this year. This year is the Jubilee Year of Mercy, and that is the formula. Mercy for others, mercy for ourselves, and recognition of the mercy of God.

All of us have done things in our lives that we now regret and would like to erase. That is what mercy is all about, that is what this year is all about. We are called to be a people of forgiveness, a people who reflect the forgiveness and the mercy of God to others. And so as we go about our everyday lives we remember that we are called to be emissaries of the Lord.

In the future as we look back at the newspaper of our lives we will recognize that the world is a better place because we brought forgiveness more fully into it with our actions. We have found the magic formula for happiness.

We have completed 2015, St. Anne’s continues to grow in charity, service and love. Thank you to all of those who have participated in any way in our church, your work is much appreciated. St Anne’s parishioners are very generous and supportive. This Year of Mercy is a call to continue that participation in our community and in our world.

Once again thank you for your participation in our community and looking forward to another year of growth.

May God bless you in this coming year and may His Mercy be always part of your life.

Father Gary.

Father Gary Lindenbach

Parish Council Chairperson Report

Letter to St Anne

As Chairperson I would like to extend a blessed year to you, your families, and our wonderful staff and priests at St. Anne parish.

St Anne’s offers a diverse selection of ways to serve, live in our faith and enrich our lives. They include the Children’s liturgy, hosting Coffee Sundays, The Neighbour Project, becoming a lecturer, Eucharistic Minister, collections, welcoming, gift bearing, the musical ministry, CWL, Knights of Columbus, St. Anne’s Youth the Conquest Boys program, etc. We are very grateful to all those who serve in this capacity, and I encourage others to take part in these roles.

I would like to thank all parish staff and board member for their contributions of time and talent, which will be shared in their reports. We said goodbye to a number of loyal parishioners this past year, and recently to our beloved archbishop Daniel Bohan. We are happy to see new members and families joining the congregation.

Many thanks to Glen Liski for becoming our Building & Grounds Chair. Although our building is showing its age in certain aspects, and upgrades and funding is ongoing, noticeable improvements have been made with his help and that of Don Barber, Father Peter, Donovan Novak and others. Don Barber graciously accepted the position of Finance and his contributions are very much appreciated. Also special thanks to Rose Romanowich for her endless contributions in Hospitality and fundraising.

We look forward to the coming year and the opportunity to live and serve in our faith.

Regards

Murray Beitel

Chairman of the Board

Pastoral Assistant

What a privilege I have in being the pastoral assistant for our parish. To be able to journey alongside those families preparing for sacraments, to visit the sick and the shut-ins, as well as meeting with those who are preparing to celebrate the lives of their loved ones, who have passed from this life into the next, is such a gift.

On February 1st, 2015, we hosted the Consecrated women and men of our Archdiocese during the Year for Consecrated Life. Many of the religious orders were represented followed by a time of food and fellowship in the hall.

This past year, we celebrated 9 baptisms - 7 at St. Anne and 2 at Campion College. We also celebrated First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation with 3 of our young parishioners. The children are always such a delight to spend time with as they continue to grow in their love for Jesus. The parents and families are always very involved in the faith formation of their children.

Throughout the year, we remembered and celebrated the lives of 6 of our parishioners who passed on to eternal life with God. On All Souls Day & All Saints Day, everyone was given an opportunity to light a candle in memory of a loved one. Please continue to pray for all of those in our parish who are grieving the loss of loved ones and for the eternal repose of the souls who have gone before us, including Archbishop Daniel Bohan.

As a pastoral assistant, I continue to attend deanery meetings which include the Regina priests and pastoral assistants, working together to build a stronger church. I also am part of the Archdiocesan Vocations Committee as well as a representative of St. Anne at the Whitmore Park/Hillsdale Ministerial Group, which includes all Christian churches. This past year, I was also placed on the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council as the Vocations Representative.

I have heard the phrase “it is so good to come home to St. Anne” numerous times this past year. Whether it was from parents who have brought their children to be baptized to family members bringing their loved ones for a funeral Mass, we have much to be thankful for that we are considered “home”.

Praise be to God for all that we have and may we all continue to grow in our friendship with Christ and extend that to each person we meet.

Shannon Novak

Pastoral Assistant

Liturgy Committee

It takes many people and many hands to make our Liturgies beautiful and meaningful. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who dedicate your time to head up these ministries. Your time and talent is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to Brad and Wendy Breit for your many years of looking after Altar Servers as well as Andrea Bellerive for your dedication to Children's Liturgy. We welcome Braden Novak who has taken over the Altar Servers, Kim Schaan the Children's Liturgy and Phyllis Kaiser the Welcomers.Of course I need to thank all of you who volunteer in these ministries as well! We are truly blessed to have a very involved Parish. We could not operate without you!I know Kim Schaan was looking for one or two people to assist her with Children's Liturgy. Please consider if you would like to help out in this Ministry. We are also in need of more Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharistic. Someone may be approaching you in the near future to ask if you would like to join this Ministry. Please consider prayerfully if you could see yourself serving in this Ministry. It is a great honour to serve your fellow parishioners the Body and Blood of Christ. You can contact Shannon Novak or Paula Mills for Sunday and Roberta Walsh or Rochelle Kramer for Saturday. We like to have enough Ministers so everyone is scheduled once a month. We will be training new Ministers in early March.2015 saw the addition of another music group. The Filipino Choir sings on the third Sunday of the month. Welcome!A huge thanks of course goes out to our Parish staff; Father Gary Lindenbach, Father Peter Pham, Theresa Schulz, Parish Coordinator and Shannon Novak, Pastoral Assistant. It is always a pleasure working with you! Pope Francis has declared this year an Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. Before his passing Archbishop Daniel Bohan encouraged everyone to read the Bull of Indiction. What is the Bull of Indiction? It is the proclamation of the Year of Mercy set forth by Pope Francis indicating the main ways it will be implemented, recognizing the spirit in which it was announced, as well as the desired outcomes hoped for by the Pontiff. You can find the document on line at http://m.vatican.va/content/francescomobile/en/apost_letters/documents/papa-francesco_bolla_20150411_misericordiae-vultus.html or by searching Bull of Indiction. A few copies will be available in the vestibule of the church for those who do not have a computer. The year began on December 8, 2015 and will end on November 20, 2016. We are very excited to bring to you opportunities to learn about and to receive God's incredible grace of mercy and forgiveness! We will also mindfully focus on ways in which we can further extend this grace to others. Watch the bulletin for upcoming events. We hope you join us throughout the year to take advantage of the many opportunities for spiritual growth and mercy!

It has been an honour to serve you this past year as Liturgy chair. God bless you all,Roberta Walsh

Hospitality Committee

Here is a résumé of the hospitality area since February 2015.On February 15 the Canadian Maple Leaf flag celebrated its 50th anniversary. St. Anne threw a party. The Conquest Boys club hosted a pancake breakfast. The Pep Band turned up, Maestro Shina Hom in charge and played a selection of Canadian tunes. We also had a huge Canadian flag from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics courtesy of Rita Zasada. Our annual March 15 St. Paddy’s potatoes was a success. Baked potatoes and the trimmings. The chili and shamrock cookies were prepared by the Riffel Foods 30 class.Mother’s Day was our Sundae event. We also had our gift and small collectible sale, 5 bucks wrapped and ready to present. Thank you to Anne Kopriva and sisters for their looking after this. There was a raffle for a basket of Mom type goodies and the winner was a happy lady.Father’s Day was toonie floats also with a raffle basket.Hospitality often takes a break for the summer but this year we hosted two events. In July 2015 northern Saskatchewan was hit by hundreds of forest fires and numerous communities had to be evacuated.Regina had over 1000 evacuees and we at St. Anne rolled out the welcome mat for any who wished to attend Mass on July 12. After Mass we had a coffee Sunday. Only a small group of from Pine House were able to join us and they were grateful and appreciative of our hospitality. For at least a few hours they were able to get away from the crowds and the noise of the Co-operator's centre. We had some books, toys and games and they took what they wanted.Sunday July 26, the Feast of St. Anne we had a coffee Sunday to honour our Patron Saint.Sunday September 13 Parish Council hosted the first event of the fall. At that time people had the opportunity to sign up for various parish ministries.September 20 the Filipino community hosted Coffee Sunday.Tuesday September 22 we had another Steak Night at Bushwakker’s. Proceeds to the Neighbour project. Those people sure know how to stretch their $$$.The annual Toonie Pumpkin pie was the Oct. 3 & 4 weekend. Who doesn’t like pumpkin pie and ice cream?Sun Oct 18 was the CWL’s soup and a bun with lots of good stuff. The CWL report likely has more details.Sunday November 29 the CWL held a bake sale and coffee to go with it.Sunday December 13 was the Christmas Potluck supper. Murray Beitel co-ordinated this. The Pep Band under the direction of Maestro Shina entertained and it was well received. Thank you to our musicians who turned up. Lots of good stuff to eat. A diverse selection of door prizes was won by about 3 dozen people.Because of the many demands on peoples’ evenings in December this event may morph into an after Mass event for 2016.... Same idea, just a different time.Sunday February 7, 2016 was the Sunday before Lent! Conquest hosted a pancake breakfast and about 100 people turned up to enjoy pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, fruit and whipped topping. A big thank you to these people.Upcoming in 2016 are a lot of the usual and well received events: St. Paddy’s potatoes, March 14 Mother’s Day sundaes and raffle. Father’s Day floats and raffle.KEEP THE DATE: Tuesday May 17 Steak Night at Bushwakker’s. Take Mom out for dinner! Proceeds for this event go to the Neighbour Project, a St. Anne’s original. As many of you are aware, on January 14 we had a serious clean water incident in the basement under the rectory and offices. Though there is an ongoing insurance claim a lot of the Neighbour Project goods were damaged, soaked etc. The vast majority of their items are stored in plastic totes but still the water splashed in. Things like books, toys and games don’t do well in water. So these proceeds will be very welcome.Lastly, we are in need of some Coffee Sunday hosts for upcoming dates. Please check your calendar and ask some of your pew-mates to help you host. We also need individuals to help out for specific dates. All this information is on the clipboard in the gathering area.THANK YOU to all those who chip in and help out with these events. Many hands make light work.

Social Justice

In this Holy Year of Mercy: “Sacred Scripture presents us with God as infinite mercy, but also as perfect justice. How are these two things reconciled? How can the reality of mercy be articulated with the need for justice?...It is only in responding with good that evil can be truly defeated.” Pope Francis We are called to be merciful to each of our fellow human beings and we do this by our acts of charity and working for justice.

Neighbor ProjectOur parish assisted 47 families through 2015. Donations come in through countless acts of generosity and charity. Parishioners, friends, family even strangers donate. We have had generous financial donations from bake sales, Steak Nights and other collections in the parish. Our bank balance is $879.04. The money is used to buy items that we don’t have in stock or that are not in the donations. Intrepid shoppers find bargains and replenish supplies of paper products and cleaning supplies, small appliances and other necessities. Requests for assistance are always met. Recipients are always overjoyed with the high quality of the items received. Challenges come in sorting the donations and getting them put away and in dealing with water issues in the basement storage areas. Many hands make light work and we have volunteers from the parish, from the community and the high school. The Neighbor Project continues to be a fruitful work of charity and mercy in Regina.

Share LentDevelopment and Peace is very well supported in St. Anne parish. Last year parishioners donated $4191.75. Participation in the Solidarity Way of the Cross was prayerful and well attended.

Refugee SponsorshipThe parish continues to prepare for and await the refugee family from Somalia now living in a refugee camp in Kenya. In all likelihood the family will not arrive until 2017. It must be so difficult for this family to have to wait so long to be reunited with their family in Regina and to have a better, safer life. There is money in the Refugee Fund ($932.13) with just a little more fundraising to be done closer to their arrival time. St. Anne CWL is collecting money for an Education Fund for the children to help them with school fees and supplies upon their arrival.

Parish InitiativesParishioners continue to donate used eye glasses, used postage stamps, pop can tabs and Campbell’s soup labels as well as items for the Food Bank. Conquest Boys Club has been focusing on homelessness for their social justice projects.

Action on Euthanasia and Palliative CareCWL members presented a talk given by Magdalene Robertson on physician assisted dying. The members and all parishioners were encouraged to write to the Prime Minister, Minsters of Health and of Justice, MP’s, MLA’s and provincial Ministers of Health and of Justice. We must act to speak on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. We must encourage the Government of Canada and the provincial government to improve access and availability, doctor training and public awareness of quality palliative care for all who need it.We know our path forward: to continue our good works as people of faith, people of mercy, people of justice--people who live God’s call to love.

Buildings and Grounds

As the building and grounds chair, I would like to report on a fairly busy year.

1. The windows in the hall continue to be a problem and an eyesore. The cost to replace them is approximately $16,000.00 north side only or stucco $21,000.00 or vinyl siding $10,000.00 approximate. All are very costly, so it has been put on hold until spring. We will see what plans the new Bishop has for the Diocese.

2. Sidewalk in front of church was fixed thanks to Chris Lindenbach, Donovan Novak and friends.

3. Steel hand railing mounted on the sanctuary thanks to Murray Beitel.

4. Kitchen was painted and new floor tiles installed. Thanks to Donovan & Fr. Peter.

5. Water was leaking into the furnace room in the south west corner of the church. Donovan dug it up along the back outside wall and repaired the leak.

6. Greg Schulz was hired to cut down and trim trees around the church yard.

7. Women's bathroom was refurbished with new partitions, sinks and some new toilets. Thanks to Donovan & Don Barber.

8. Atlas Roofing patched the hall roof on the North side and fixed the leak into the kitchen at no charge.

9. An electrician was hired and the parking lot lights were replaced.

10. Sewer line in the kitchen backed up due to a ball plugging the line. Don Barber brought in Dukes Plumbing and they were able to push it further down the line into a larger pipe. It seems to be okay now.

11. City of Regina came to change out our water meter in the East basement of the church. The employee did not shut the water valve completely off, so when he removed the meter from the main pipe the basement was flooded. Restorex is doing the cleanup & insurance is looking after the losses. A big thanks to Donovan, Theresa and Rose Romanowich for helping me to try to save things and clean in the basement.

12. Thanks to Fr. Peter for fixing lights and doing repairs around the church and hall. A big thanks to Theresa for all her input and organizing repairs and other upkeep around the church.

Youth Report

The St. Anne Conquest Boys continue to be a strong part of Parish life. There are over 50 boys in total involved in Conquest at St. Anne Parish half of which are St. Anne boys. Conquest offers a unique youth ministry program in that it focuses on the leadership and faith development of boys. For that reason, the Conquest at St. Anne has attracted many boys from other parishes that do not have access to a program like Conquest. And the benefit to the families of our parish is that larger numbers mean we can offer a great experience for your son to learn to grow in his faith.

Conquest has two groups that meets on two different nights every week. Boys who are kindergarten age up to grade 6 meet on Wednesday nights, while grade 7 right through all high school ages meet on Friday nights. All meetings are two hours in length and involve lots of sports and a variety of activities that enable them to learn about their Catholic Faith in a safe and fun environment. All activities are led by Conquest’s youth leadership team, who are teenage and university age boys who serve as leaders and mentors for the younger boys. Conquest also provides opportunities for men to be involved in the mentorship of the boys in the group.

Aside from the weekly meetings, other highlights of the year have included our always successful “In the Spirit of Saint Nicholas” project, which many people remember because of the Purdys Chocolates that are sold. This is always a favorite for many St. Anne parishioners. This year the boys sold over $23,000 of chocolates in the one month project (at 5 different parishes including St. Anne) which raised almost $7,000 for the two charities (one local and one international) that the boys selected themselves. The local charity was the homeless of Regina and the international charity was Chalice. Other highlights include the pancake breakfasts that the boys do for the parish. Also, coming up March 4-6 will be a weekend retreat that Conquest will host at St. Anne parish for boys ages 10-16. And coming up this summer, again for boys age 10-16, will be the annual Conquest summer camp, called Camp Aurora Borealis held at the Knights of Columbus facility at Black Strap. If you know of any boys in this age range please let them know about it.

I encourage anyone with kids to get involved in our youth programs if you aren't now already. If you have a daughter and want her involved in a youth program we can put you in contact with one of the neighboring parishes. Or, if you are interested in starting a program at St. Anne please let me know. If you are already involved in Conquest, consider inviting a family that you know may benefit from this great program whether they are part of our parish or another parish. Conquest is a fun and positive way for your kids to get involved in their faith and to interact with other kids.

God Bless,Trevor NovakSt. Anne Youth

Funds were donated to Santa Marie, Camp Monahan, Columbus Park, Marian Center, Catholic Family Services and St. Anne’s Good Neighbour program. Thank you to everyone that supported the fund raising events.

7. A cheque for $6,000 was presented to Santa Maria to help cover the cost renovations to some of their original rooms. These funds were raise by working at Columbus Park in the summer of 2014 and from other funds raising events.

8. Took part in the 40 Days for Life campaign and Pro-Life Golf Fund Raising event.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Brother Knights in their enthusiasm and efforts this past year. Many of our programs will continue for the coming year. No new members this year, however, our active members are becoming fewer and fewer. The Knights of Columbus program provides Catholic men with an opportunity to explore and better understand our faith, to assist the Parish Priest in meeting the needs of our parish and provide great fellowship with other Knights. If you are interested in becoming a Knights of Columbus member please contact either myself 306-586-2113 or Don Barber
