Sacrament of Reconciliation: Saturday, 4:00 – 4:15 pm Masses: Thursday and Friday 11:00 am; Saturday, 4:30 pm; Sunday 10:00 am February 10 th , 2019 Padre’s Portion: This weekend we have another story of Jesus performing a miracle; this time of the great catch of fish. No doubt the great crow of people who had pressed upon Jesus had something to do with this miracle. Jesus was a "rock star" and attracted thousands. They were very hungry for God and were eager to hear his word. Jesus wanted to use this occasion to teach his disciples an important lesson. Although Simon Peter was wearied from a night of fruitless work, he nonetheless did what the Lord Jesus told him to do: "At your word I will let down the nets." It is a reminder to us that when we meet disappointment and failure, to keep pressing upon the Lord. Listen to Jesus -- he is with us -- and receives his command to keep going. Jesus' command is ours: we will catch people for the kingdom of God if we allow the light of Jesus Christ to shine through us. God wants others to see the light of Christ in us in the way we live, speak and witness the joy of the Good News. Here's what we can continue to do. Pray for your neighbors, co- workers, and relatives that they may come to know the Lord Jesus Christ and grow in the knowledge of his love and truth. It’s Valentine’s Day Thursday, and I am all for an evening set aside to celebrate love. I just wish the secular world would remember that February 14 th is named after St. Valentine, an early Christian martyr of the Church. A Roman priest (Yes, this day is named after a celibate priest! Go figure!) Who would not renounce his faith during the persecutions. Put into jail, he spent his times sending out notes of love and affirmation to his people. (How about sending a note of love to someone you haven't connected with for a while.) When he held firm in his beliefs, he was killed – out of his love for Jesus Christ. “No greater love than to lay down your life for your friend.” May it be a blessed day full of love. Speaking of love and laying down your life. Joni Chully retired this last Tuesday after 16 year as serving as the front lady in the Office. Born and raised in the neighborhood, Joni has grown up here in Sacred Heart and now she starts a journey in her life with her husband Paul. We will honor Joni with a special evening of hearty hors d'oeuvres and refreshment after the 4:30 p.m. Mass on March 9th. Even if you're a Sunday morning regular, plan on stopping by and wishing her well and telling her "Thank you." We will have a "gift card tree" if you would like to give a token of your appreciation. And the final word of this Padre's goes to Pope Francis. He said frankly in an important keynote address to the 700 representatives of Islam, Christianity, Judaism and other religions at the high-level inter-religious meeting in Abu Dhabi on February 4: "There is no alternative. We either build the future together or there will not be a future. . . The time has come when religions should more actively exert themselves, with courage and audacity and without pretense, to help the human family deepen the capacity for reconciliation, the vision of hope and the concrete paths of peace. . . Religions cannot renounce the urgent task of building bridges between peoples and cultures. . .Human fraternity requires of us the duty to reject every nuance of approval from the word 'war' . . . Together, as brothers and sisters in the one human family willed by God, let us commit ourselves against the logic of armed power, against the monetization of relations, the arming of borders, the raising of walls, the gagging of the poor; let us oppose all this with the sweet power of prayer and daily commitment to dialogue... God is with those who seek peace. From heaven he blesses every step which, on this path, is accomplished on earth.” God Bless.

February 10th, 2019Padre’s Portion: This weekend we have another story of Jesus performing a miracle; this time of the great catch of fish. Pray for your neighbors, co-workers, and relatives that they may come to know the Lord Jesus Christ and grow in the knowledge of his love and truth.

It’s Valentine’s Day Thursday, and I am all for an evening set aside to celebrate love.  I just wish the secular world would remember that February 14th is named after St.

From heaven he blesses every step which, on this path, is accomplished on earth.”

God Bless.
