El centro histórico, construido desde 1487, parte del Balcón de Europa, antiguo castillo del siglo IX, actualmente mirador sobre el mar. A un lado del Balcón se encuentra la Iglesia de El Sal-vador, del siglo XVII, de estilo barroco-mudéjar. También se puede visitar la ermita de Nuestra Sra. de las Angustias, del siglo XVII, con frescos del maestro Alonso Cano. En el casco antiguo, las pequeñas tiendas tradicionales, ofrecen toda la artesanía y productos típicos de la zona, desde el vino dulce al aceite de oliva, la miel o los frutos tropicales. En sus merenderos y marisquerías podrá degustar el “pescaíto frito” mientras la amplia variedad de restaurantes internacionales pone a su disposición un universo gastronómico.

The historic centre, that begins in the Balcón de Europa (Balcony of Europe). was constructed around 1487. Former 9th. Century Castle, it is now a viewing point above the sea. To the side of the Balcón you will find the 17th. Century El Salvador Church, construc-ted in barroque-mudejar style. You may also visit the 17th Century Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Hermitage with its paintings by the master Alonso Cano.In the old quarter of town, typical small shops offer local craftworks and products of the area, including the sweet wine and olive oil, honey and tropical fruits. At the beach at fish restau-rants you can enjoy the “pescaito Frito” (fried fish), whilst the many international restaurants in town offer a wide variety of menus to suit all tastes.

Nerja mantiene vivas sus tradiciones: la Semana Santa, la romería de San Isidro, feria, navidad, carnaval, San Juan o el día del Carmen se celebran de una manera especial.
