School HistoryKlein Oak High School was established in 1982 as Klein Independent School District’s third high school with an opening enrollment of 1,150 students in grades 9 and 10. Klein Oak serves the northern communities of the district. From its humble beginnings, many architectural changes have been made to accommodate its growth. Additions of a music building, athletic facilities, a ninth grade wing, and enlargement of the Commons have all changed the footprint of the school. It now houses over 3,800 students. Klein Oak has a strong counseling and teaching staff, and academic, career and technology, and fine arts programs.

Parent InvolvementFrom athletics to fine arts, parents are invited to join their child’s booster club and support the organization’s goals and students. These booster organizations fund raise, attend and host competitive events, assist with travel, and support teachers and coaches. Parent volunteers can be found helping in various departments.

School RatingKlein Oak High School is one of only four high schools with more than 3,000 students to be named a Model PLC (Professional Learning Community) School.

Counseling ProgramKlein Oak has a diverse counseling program. KOHS counselors specialize in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), English as a Second Language (ESL), special education services, and serve as graduation advisors.

Klein Oak High School supports the expectation of offering state/federal mandated curriculum, standards, and assessments. The campus offers dual credit and Advanced Placement (AP) courses for students to prepare for higher education opportunities. Other curriculum supported programs include Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), Texas Virtual School Network (TXVSN), 504, International Baccalaureate (IB) and ESL. The basic curriculum structure in the KISD is as follows:

English Language Arts (ELA)The ELA program at the high school level encourages students to become lifelong readers through efferent and aesthetic reading experiences, to think critically, and to communicate verbally and writing in all purposes and modes specified by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Methods of instruction are adapted to meet the needs of students, and technology is integrated to enhance communication skills. High school courses are designed to refine the skills of students and to prepare them for a transition to college or career.

MathStudents continue to build on the basic foundation developed in grades K-8 as they expand their understanding through other math experiences. These foundations include the understanding of number, operation, and quantitative reasoning, patterns, relationships and algebraic thinking, geometry, measurement, probability and statistics. All are essential throughout high school math courses.

ScienceIn high school, students conduct field and laboratory investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving.

Social StudiesAt the high school level, social studies courses include world geography, U.S. history, world history, government, psychology, sociology, economics, and special topics in social studies.
