In our search for the meaning of life the relationships we value provide us with the greatest ability to achieve a sense of belonging. An individual's connection to their physical environment provides a source of affiliation through their memories and experiences there.

‘I am so happy to finally be back home’ – by Edward Khil

In the song by Edward Khil, the absence of any lexical form is an interesting comment on the persona’s sense of connection with their homeland. The title suggests that there is a sense of happiness to return home, and the overwhelming feelings of elation impact on the persona’s ability to articulate this in words. The elongated repetition of ‘yaaa yahh’ represents the positive emotional connection has to their ancestral home. This primeval, declarative statement elucidates their sense of comfort and familiarity within an environment - and negates the need for conventional language.

The excitement of ‘finally’ returning home conjures the sexually provocative and orgasmic ‘ohohohooooooooooohhhh’ to reinforce the importance of these cultural links to the place of his birth. Often when an individual travels the world there is deep yearning to return to a place where they are reminded of their formative upbringing.

The ironic use of ‘nah nah naahhhhhhh’ is perhaps a defence mechanism employed by the persona to pre-empt possible disappointment or changes that they might have occurred in their absence. This is quickly dispelled with the triumphant tone of ‘duh da dahhhhh’ where the upbeat timbre of the singers voice heralds that the migration back home has been all worthwhile. The form and genre of the text, that of a simple, rustic Russian folk song with it’s childlike syncopated beat, reminds the listener of the innocence of youth and growing up.
